Valorous Effort kicked open the doors to the hospital with his hind legs. The resonating crash made by the force of Valorous' kick and the doors slamming against the wall made the nurse attending the front desk look up.
"Sir i'm going to have to ask you to calm down" the blue coated nurse sighed, looking at her clipboard.
"WHERE IS SHE?! WHERE'S ISABELLE?!" Valorous shouted, bouncing on his hooves franticly.
"Isabelle? The gryphon? Are you a friend?" the nurse sighed once more, clearly bored despite the frantic unicorn in front of her.
"I'M HER HUSBAND!"
This took the nurse aback. She blinked a couple of times in shock unable to process the words she had just heard.
"You're what?"
"I'M HER HUSBAND!"
"but she's a-" the nurse cut off.
"GRYPHON, YES I KNOW! NOW ISN'T THE TIME TO EXPLAIN! SHE'S HAVING OUR CHILD!"
The clipboard the nurse was holding clattered to the floor, the pen alongside it feel with a *click* *clack*.
"Right this way Sir, Room 163" the nurse said quickly before bolting down the hall with Valorous in pursute.

With Valorous in tow the nurse rushed down the long hospital hallway. A door opened infront of them and a group of medical proffesionals walked out with the last one closing the door slowly behind them. They breathed sighs of relief removing their medical gear. The Nurse stopped waiting for them to pass, but Valorous had no time to stop. He crashed through the doctors as a bowling ball would pins toppling them over along with himself. They all crashed to the ground. Valorous was up first immediatly continuing his gallop.
"ISABELLE!" he shouted turning a corner.
"That guy's mad" one of the doctors said brushing himself off.
"His wife's having a kid" the nurse said gasping for breath.
"ha-HA" one of the other doctors laughed, "I remember when my kid was born, I-"
"His wife is a gryphon" the nurse cut him off.
"But he's a-"
"Yeah, I know"

Valorous rounded the corner leaving the pile of doctors and nurse behind.
"ISABELLE!" he shouted.
With a quick glance at the hospital directory on the wall Valorous saw that this was the hallway containing rooms 150-170. He rushed down the hall reading off the rooms as he passed them.
"151,153,155,157,159,161,163...Isabelle, I made it."
Valorous pushed the door to Room 163 open, a smile beginning to spread upon his face. What he saw was his wife Isabelle lying in bed asleep holding a small bundle. The setting sun shining through the window leaving an orange glow upon the blankets and her rustled feathers. He trotted to the bed slowly. As Valorous approached the small hospital bed he could see her chest rising and falling as she breathed softly in her sleep. He reached out a forehoof and brushed Isabelle's smooth white headfeathers back from their frazzled look caused by the stress she had suffered in Valorous' abscense.
"Hmm?" Isabelle sighed reaching a claw up to rub her eyes.
Valorous drew back his hoof.
"I came as soon as I could," Valorous wispered.
"Valor, you haven't seen our child," Isabelle said staring into Valorous' eyes. "He's one of a kind"
"He" Valorous repeated.
"Yes," Isabelle said, a smile spreading on her beak. She lifted the small bundle up to Valorous.
Valorous carefully spread the blankets apart to get a better look at his child as if any actual contact would hurt him. He saw a small beak and feathers upon his face.
"A gryphon," Valorous sighed disapointedly but not loud enough for Isabelle to hear.
"What?" Isabelle asked.
"A gryphon," Valorous said putting on a smile to mask his slight disapointment. He had hoped for a foal, but what could he expect? He had married a gryphon after all. He was still proud to have a child but something just was wrong with it being a gryphon. Maybe they should have adopted, he thought.
Isabelle smiled. "not a gryphon dear, look" Isabelle carefully removed the rest of the blankets from the sleeping child, with each less wrap Valorous became more and more awestruck. With the small blue blanket tossed aside Valorous got his first full look of his child.

This child was NOT a gryphon.

Valorous blinked a couple of times unable to process what was right before him. His child wasn't a gryphon that was for sure, but something between both pony and gryphon. He had a small black beak with white headfeathers and a small black patch of feathers on his chest, the child also had small birdlike gryphon claws tucked closely to his body, past his chest the feathers seemed to melt into fur, a white coat like his father's and on his back small black wings were folded. Valorous blinked again but there was more to see. Past the feather/fur fusion segment of the child's body it took more of a horselike form with small hooves and the tail of a pony. Valorous was speechless he had never seen anything like it.
Isabelle held the child close to herself rocking him lightly in her claws. A small yawn escaped the tiny hybrid but he remained asleep.
Isabelle looked down at the small child she held.
"Your going to be valiant just like your father. Thats it, Valiant, you're our little Valiant Effort." she said quietly to the child.
Isabelle looked back at Valorous.
"You all right Valor?"
A small click of the door being pushed open roused Valorous out of his state of shock and awe. The blue coated nurse poked her head through.
"Valorous, Valorous Effort?"
Valorous and Isabelle turned to look at the nurse.
"I hope I'm not interupting anything, but me and the other doctors wanted to see your child," the nurse said with a blush as the doctors Valorous had knocked over poked their heads through the doorway. Isabelle looked at the nurse and doctors with confusion.
"Is something wrong?" Isabelle asked with slight discomfort.
"No, no we just wanted to see...well-"
"See What!?" Isabelle interrupted angrily.
"Now Isabelle, they just want to see our child, he may need a checkup just to be safe," Valorous comforted her.
"He," the nurse said turning to the other doctors, they looked back in amazement.
"If I may," one of the doctors said stepping out from behind the door. He was a tall brown pegasus stallion with a black mane and brown eyes like his coat. "My Name is Dr. Steady Pulse. I would like to apologize for my collegues here if they attempted to intrude on your privacy. I would like to inform you that you are the first pony-gryhon union that has had a child in this hospital and possibly anywhere else. I can understand your feeling to protect your child, but I must insist we give him a checkup just to be sure he is healthy."
"I-" Isabelle began but sighed in defeat.
"Do not worry Isabelle, I studied gryphons AND ponies in medical school, If anypony in this hospital would know about either or any inbetween the most it would be me," Dr. Steady Pulse said with a smile, "If it makes you feel any better we won't even leave the room. Would it be alright with you if my fellow doctors and nurse could watch? It would be a learning experience for all of them."
"Fine, just don't hurt him," Isabelle said relectantly placing Valiant at the foot of the bed.
Dr. Steady Pulse looked at Valiant in suprise, he had never seen anything like him in his life, he hoped the child would make it being the hybrid that he is.
"Your child is one of a kind," he said checking over Valiant and taking a stethiscope from one of the other doctors. Steady Pulse gently placed the stethiscope on Valiant's chest and paused looking at a clock in the corner of the room. After he had checked his heartbeat he tested Valiant with standard joint tests and other hospital procedures, when he was finished he looked back at Isabelle with a big smile. "He is a healthy boy Isabelle, he meets all hospital requirments for pony and gryphon alike,"
Isabelle looked back at Steady Pulse with a relieved smile.
"That's great news, right Valor?"
"Of course it is," Valorous said, "What foal of mine wouldn't be healthy, I am royal guard after all,"
The doctors and nurses laughed.
"Well, Congrajulations to you both," Steady Pulse said gathering the doctors and nurse, "Let's give them some time to relax," he said to them. The doctors and nurse filed out of the room leaving Isabelle, Valorous and their new child Valiant Effort.
