A colt is found shivering on the corner of a street, next to the mutilated body of Pinkie Pie. His eyelids have been cut off, and the only words he mutters are "Your Tears Fuel My Fire". Nopony, not even trained and veteran detectives, will take the case, providing no clues as to why they won't. When an underdog nopony, to be specific, a failed journalist, does what he feels is right, and takes up the case, blowing off the disagreement by retaliating on the detectives who refused to take the case.

His only evidence is a note left inside poor Pinkie's body, and the scared, little colt. Conviction of the felon seems impossible. With the aid of the other Mane 6, a famous, but suspicious DJ, and others willing to help along the way, he is determined to bring a close to the case. What he finds, however, is a string of lies, murder, and crime stretching farther than originally expected…
