I'm Contra

"I just don't understand it," she said.

When Twilight didn't understand something, almost no pony did, the exception being Celestia herself.

"It feels like the time I tried to understand the Pinkie sense, it doesn’t make any sense, you don't even have a magic aura!" she yelled. "You are a Pegasus that can use magic, you can levitate objects with it, you can cast low level allusion spells and teleport... but there is no trace of magic afterwards!" she explained. "I am going to get pinkie and see if she can detect anything different about you, because Celestia only knows I can't!" With that, she walked, or should I say, she galloped out of the library, leaving me alone.

After sitting in the main area for ten minutes, waiting for her to return, I got rather bored. So, I started to look at the books on the shelf. I tried to get one out but they were so crammed in there that I got more than one, or to be specific, all of the books came crashing down on me, but that's nothing invisible magic can't fix. As I was putting them back I heard small footsteps coming from the stairs, only to see a small purple dragon peek down the steps at the small mess that was left.

"Who are you?" he asked.

"I'm Contra, and you are?"

"I'm Spike, what happened to all the books?" he asked.

"I got bored and decided to read something, is that alright?"

"You would usually need to ask Twilight to do so, but I am assuming that she knows you are here. Speaking of which, where is she, it's not like her to leave the library without telling me first," Spike asked.

"She went to get some pony named Pinkie, I think it was," I answered as I started reshelve the books with my inviso-magic.

"Did she say what for?" He noticed the books flying around by themselves. "Are you doing that, and if so... how?"

"I thought you lived here," I retorted.

"I do... but that doesn't answer my question," he said.

"You should know this, I'm using my magic, you live with a unicorn after all, you should be use to this kind of thing,"

"I am use to it, it's just... you’re a Pegasus, not a unicorn..." By this time he was standing in front on me, watching very carefully, in case he was missing something.

"That's why I am here, actually. I have always been able to do this and never knew why. After some research by myself, I came up blank; nothing was telling me why I could do this. So I came here hoping that if any pony could figure it out, it would be the princess’s personal student, but she has no more information than I do!" I explained.

"And that's why she went to get Pinkie, for her Pinkie sense, thinking she might be able to find something she missed, right?" he asked.

"You know, you are a lot smarter than Twilight led me to believe. I think that you want to hide it from her, thinking that if she knows you are smart, she will make you go to school or something,"

As I told him my hypotheses, he got a worried look on his face and started to stutter out a response, I personally couldn't understand him, but I knew what he was getting at and just winked at him. He started to relax a bit afterwards.

"You know, you did my job for me," he said.

I must have looked a little confused because he just gave a little chuckle and said "I am the assistant, I was suppose to reshelve all the books tomorrow, and you just did that. I don't know if you know this but, you also alphabetically organized them in the process. You just gave me a double bonus, no work and extra gems!"

I looked at all the books in small horror. "Oh no, I'm doing it again..." I sighed. "I thought that I got over this already?"

It was Spikes turn to look confused. "What do you mean by that?" he asked.

"Well, when I was..." I wasn't able to finish my story because a pink blur tackled me to the ground and squeezed the curiosity out of me, sparing a cat in the presses.

"Oh my gosh I didn't know there was a new pony in town!" she yelled in one quick breath.

I tried to say something but ended up sounding like a squealing balloon.

Twilight walked in and saw this and simply said. "Pinkie..."

"Yeeeesss Twilight?" she responded.

"She can't breathe..."

The pink pony’s eyes shot open and she quickly added. "Oh, I'm so sorry, I just love to meet new ponies and there are not very many new ponies in Ponyville, I just got carried away. Come to think of it..." she stuck her entire head in my mouth, peeled open my eye lids, and looked up my nose. "How did I not know there was a new pony in town? I always know when there is!" she sounded more confused than sad or angry.

"Well, can you tell anything about her with your pinkie sense?" Twilight asked.

"No, I can't," she somehow looked in her own ears to see if there was something wrong with herself.

"How did..."

"Don't ask, she is just being Pinkie," Twilight interrupted.

"Now what do I do?" Twilight asked no pony in particular. "If Pinkie doesn't know, and nothing I did gave me an answer... I think I'm stuck?" she sounded a bit downtrodden. "Is there anything that you might have missed in your studies, or forgot to mention to me at first?" she asked in a desperate voice.

"Well, there was something that I thought might be the cause, but I couldn't find anything to prove it..."

"Yes? I'm listening!" she said with a new found vigor and spring in her step.

"My mom is a pegasus and my dad is a unicorn..." I said. I looked over to the unusually quiet pink pony to see that she was still performing a number of tests on herself. I continued to explain myself while watching her. "But I couldn't find anything on that subject to further my research... I don't think it even matters if your parents are different races of pony or not?"

"That's where you are wrong!" she exclaimed. She winced at what she said and added, "Sorry, I...I didn't mean t-to sound happy that y-you are wrong, I just g-got really..."

I interrupted her with a held up hoof and quick smile and said "Don't worry, it's just Twilight being Twilight I'm sure,"

"Thank you, I hate trying to explain myself... I just start tripping over my own words and make myself look dumb."

"No probl..."

"I got it!" the pink pony screamed. "I know why I can't feel you with my pinkie sense!" Twilight didn't look to happy about her outburst, and spike was on the ceiling, holding a claw to his heart. "Man, I forgot she was even here!" he exclaimed.

"Your mom was a pegasus and your dad was a unicorn and we all know that that is how the Alicorns were born!"

"Yes, Pinkie, we all know, now, if I cou..."

"And we all know that I can't feel Cadance, Celestia, Luna or Queen Chrysalis with my pinkie sense and that is how Chrysalis was able to crash Cadance and Shine's wedding like she did!"

"I didn't know that," Spike and Twilight said in stereo.

"So it's only logical to think that you, Contra, are an Alicorn!"

I just sat there with my jaw on the ground.

"Wow!" spike yelled. "Pinkie using logic! Twilight, you need to write this down for the history books!" he said. "Scholars will be trying to prove this one for a thousand years!"

That joke made me giggle a little bit but made Twilight a little more than upset. "Spike, go upstairs, now..." she said through gritted teeth.

"But I reshelved all the books and alphabetically organized them a day early!" he quickly retorted, and to his relief, her gaze softened a bit. "So you did, well... I guess that I can overlook that little 'joke' of yours if you will settle for the regular payment for reshelving the books,"

"Deal," he and Twilight shook on it.

"Now that that is over..." Twilight said. "How the Tartarus did you know that Pinkie?!" she yelled.

"I just put two and two and two together," she explained while not only holding up her own four hooves, but two extra, to my astonishment.

Twilight just turned to me and said. "What she said..."

"So... I am a Alicorn, Where is my horn then?" I asked.

"Well, I guess you aren't a complete Alicorn, something must have happened to you before you were born, and you only got a very, very, very... small amount of the magic," Twilight said. "But that's just a theory..."

"Well, that is interesting... almost as much as Pinkie Pie over here,"

Pinkie just sat there, content to smile.

"Well, thank you so much for helping me with that! Is there anything I can do to repay you?"

Twilight just smiled and said, "You taught me something new today, that's all I need to be happy!"

"Well I should be on my way then, I have some news to tell. Thank you again, and you too Pinkie, I never would have been able to figure that out on my own!"

"No problem at all, Contra! I need to get going too, the Cakes are probably looking for me." Pinkie said. "Oh, and Twilight..."

"Yes Pinkie?"

"Princess Celestia is on her way..."

"How do you know that?" Twilight asked.

"My Pinkie sense told me, duh!"

Twilight, Spike and I all just stared at each other.
