The Necklace
By The Aura Guardian
My aunt Gertrude was a very odd woman. She was all into, as I called it, Da Majiks. Séances and all of that stuff. Anyway, she died about a week ago, and boy was I glad. Every time my parents went out of town, they’d always send me out of town to stay with her, and she’d always tell me to help her with… Whatever that stuff is. Witchcraft? Anyway, being the devout Christian that I am {Don’t worry. I won’t include my personal religious beliefs in this story. Not much, anyway.}, I didn’t want to follow through with her funky juju, so I kind of just hid in the closet all day. Her funeral was today. I didn’t go, and even if I wanted to I couldn’t. I don’t know why, but it’s like the family has something against me or something. So I was very surprised when my parents came back with her most prized possession, a small, silver pendant with a sapphire embedded in the center and runes carved around it that aunt Gertrude bragged about how “it gave her special powers”, and said it was left to me.
“So. Why did she leave this to me?” I asked my parents, “She knows I hate this necklace.”
“Well,” my mom said, “in her will she said ‘To Lucas I leave my necklace, for I have seen that he has a large destiny to fulfill, and he needs this to accomplish it.’”
“She was probably just crazy from all of her funky juju,” I remarked.
“Lucas! Don’t talk about your aunt like that!” my dad exclaimed, “You may not have liked her, but she’s still my sister!”
“Well, anyway,” changing the subject, “how about you put that necklace over there on the counter, ok? I’ve got some recording to do.” I rushed down the hall to my room, which was practically a library, as I said this. Up two sets of stairs, first right, second left, up one more flight of stairs, and straight ahead. (I live in a massive house by the way) I plopped down at my desk, pulled out my headset, and started up my computer. As the computer turned on, I looked at the sun, finally setting on this summer afternoon, as I gave a long sigh. “Five more days ‘till summer vacation,” I said to myself. The computer started, and I immediately put myself to setting up for the video. Turning on Steam, Skype, and Fraps all at the same time and calling my friends-Robby, Excelerate, and Prisma.
“Hey Lucas!” came a voice from my headset, “Is it time for recording already? It’s only been a day since our last video.”
“The new TF2 update just came out, Robby,” I say back, “They added new achievements and milestone weapons. We’ve got to get them and record getting them.”
“Hey guys!” came another voice, female, from the headset, “What’s up?”
“Hi Prisma. We were just about to record a new video, showing the new TF2 update in all of its glory,” said Robby.
“Well Excelerate’s not on right now. Can we record without him?” Prisma asked.
“I guess,” I say, “Alright. Recording in 3… 2… 1… Alright, this is Lucas Holden The Aura Guardian here with my friends Baltoxe and…” Robby cuts me off.
“It’s BALTO-XE! The way you say it makes it sound like ‘buttocks’!”
A small chuckle was the only reply from Prisma and I.
“Ok then. I’m here with my friends Balto-XE,” stressing the “xe” so much that another chuckle emanated from Prisma, “and Prisma. Today we will be covering the TF2 update…”
After the video was over, I got dressed for bed and, taking one last glance out the window, got in bed and fell asleep. As I dreamed, the necklace downstairs started to faintly glow.
