2:00 A.M.

House sat at the edge of the bed, staring at the clock as he had been for the past few hours, deep in thought. He couldn’t sleep. His thoughts wouldn’t let him. He couldn’t stop thinking about what he was going to do now that Wilson was gone. It had been three days since the night he had found his lifeless body lying in his hotel bed. Three days where for the first time in his life, House didn’t know what he was going to do with the rest of his life. He couldn’t go back to being a doctor that was one thing he was sure of. The events of the past few days played in his mind.

It was one night when they decided to stop and spend a few days in a hotel, just to settle down for a while. It had been a little over six months since they had rode off on their motorcycles. Neither one of them knew how long Wilson had left. It had been a miracle that Wilson was still there, alive and well, weeks after his expected expiration date. The two of them were walking down the hall towards their rooms. Wilson had rented them two cheap hotel rooms, both across from each other. They were both tired, having been on the road all day. Wilson looked exhausted.

When they reached their rooms, they started to unpack what little they brought with them. Once they finished, they said their goodnights and went to sleep.

House had woken up a few hours later, no longer tired. He began to wonder how Wilson was doing and decided to check on him. Reaching for his cane, House got out of bed and headed out the door. He went over to Wilson’s door and began knocking. After about thirty seconds of knocking, there was no answer. “Wilson?” House shouted as he knocked once more. Still no answer. Turning the knob, he found that the door was still unlocked. He slowly opened the door and headed inside. “Wilson?” he repeated as he rounded the corner and faced Wilson’s bed. Wilson was lying under his covers. “Wilson?” he said once more. Wilson didn't respond. House moved to the side of the bed. “Wilson?” Still no response. House turned Wilson over. His eyes were closed. “Wilson.” House said as he tapped Wilson. There was still no response. House threw the covers off and began to shake him. “Wilson! Wake up!” He shouted as he continued shaking him. After failing to wake him, House stopped. Beginning to feel uneasy, he checked for a pulse. There was none. Heart feeling heavy, he knew that his time had ran out. Wilson was dead.

House continued to sit there, remembering the days after. The next day, people began to find out about Wilson’s death. The hotel identified him and called people to let them know of the event, relatives included. Foreman was amongst the people notified. A funeral had been organized for the next day and he had invited the team to go with him to it. The next day, the whole team was there as well as Wilson’s family. House attended, but stayed at the far back to keep from being recognized by anyone. He remembered staring at the coffin the whole time. Staring at his best friend. Remembering all the good times they had. Thinking of the times they wouldn’t get to have. And here he was, in his hotel room, alone.

Other than the funeral, he hadn’t left his room since Wilson’s death. He had nowhere to go. All he had was some money, his bike, some food supplies, and his cane. And his pills. He had almost forgotten about his pills. His thoughts of Wilson had kept him too occupied to think about them. He reached into his pocket and took out a bottle. He stared at it briefly before popping it open. He took one pill, closed the bottle, and put it back in his pocket. Standing up, he began packing his things. “I can’t stay here forever.” He thought as he headed for the door with his things. As he left his room, he took one last glance at what used to be Wilson’s room.

He started towards the end of the hall towards the elevator. When he reached it, he pushed the button with his cane. He turned around and began to stare down the hall. Ding! House turned around as the elevator doors opened. He stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for first floor. The elevator doors closed and the elevator descended the six floors to the first floor. The doors opened and House stepped out. He didn't think much about where he was going to go as he exited the hotel. “I’ll figure it out on the road” he thought as he went over to his bike and stored his belongings.

Sitting down on his bike, he put his helmet on. He started the bike up, revving it a few times. He pulled out onto the street and headed down the road. Without much thinking, he decided he’d just go where the road took him and stop when he hit a city. Eventually after driving for a while, there were no structures in sight. Just trees. Trees everywhere. The road went on deep into the woods with curves here and there. There were no other vehicles on the road, which didn't surprise House, considering how early it was. As he drove, House began to feel light-headed. He misjudged the distance between the turn and went off the road and into the woods. Many bushes hit him in the face as the bike continued downhill. Before he could hit the brakes, the bike hit a stump, flipping the bike and sending house overboard. He landed face down, hitting his head against a tree and losing consciousness.

House slowly regained consciousness. He awoke lying on his back in darkness. He raise his head off the pillow.

Pillow...

House didn't remember landing on a pillow. He raised his head higher and observed his surroundings. He found out he wasn't outside anymore. "That would explain the pillow." House muttered to himself. What he didn't expect was a voice to reply to him.

"Ah, you are awake. Your being here must be by mistake."
