IntroView OnlineThe BeginningsIntroTheir house was in flames, Dacno and her little sister, Psychro, ran down the hall to their parents room. Their mom dashed out of the room as fiery beams fell from the ceiling. She wasn't fast enough though, and she let out an agonizing scream as one fell and landed on top of her. She tried to get up but it was no use. Psychro enveloped the beam in a light blue glow. Her horn shining brightly with magical sparks flying off of it as she struggled to lift the beam off of her mom. All it did was sizzle and put the fire out for a moment, while lifting it an inch. As the fire died a little Dacno tried to physically lift it off, ignoring the fact that it was still hot enough to burn her. Psychro’s magic finally gave and she passed out, dropping the beam back on her mom. It caught fire again and Dacno yelped as she dropped it. Her hooves were seared but she still ran over to her sister to check on her. Dacno noticed a familiar dark purple glow and realized that her mom was struggling to use her magic. But she wasn't trying to lift the beam. It grew brighter and then it was gone. Well that's what Dacno thought. She looked ahead of her and saw their house, enveloped in flames. “She teleported us out?” Psychro said teary eyed, watching her childhood home crumble. Dacno stood up and started trotting toward the house with tear filled eyes. She was stopped by Psychro grabbing her tail with her magic and accidentally freezing it. “What do you think you’re doing? You can’t save her,” Psychro said hanging her head and letting go of Dacno. Dacno spun around to say something harsh to her sister, but instead she walked over to her, dragging her partially frozen tail behind her. She sat next to Psychro and wrapped her wing around her, “I’m sorry, I just don’t know why she didn't escape herself...” Dacno started crying and so did Psychro. They sat there doing just that for about 10 minutes before ponies showed up with a hose leading to the nearest pond. They doused the flames, but that was just to prevent it from spreading to the Everfree forest sense by then their house was just a burning pile of wood and memories.
Dacno part 1View OnlineThe BeginningsDacno part 1Dacno Psychro jumped on me and I pushed her off of me, she giggled and so did I as I started chasing her around the yard. Momma was laying on the porch swing, smiling as she watched us play. She was knitting us are winter scarves and hats. Something she always did when it neared fall. Me and sis tumbled and laid in the grass. I closed my eyes and smiled, but then I opened them. The sky had gone dark, I jolted up and looked around. It was just me, I was alone, inclosed in a circle of dense forest. I spun around saw my house. I started to trot toward it, but skidded to a stop as it combusted into flames. I could hear my mom and Psychro screaming from inside the burning building. “Help someone! Please help me! My mom and sister...there...trapped.” My words suddenly stopped as I spotted glowing orange eyes just outside the forest. It looked like a zebra, but there was someone else. “Dad?” I whispered as I squinted my eyes against the dark. I started to walk in there direction, then it turned into a sprint, then a trot. As I got closer and faster it became more clear who the ponies were. My dad and aunt syndi, “dad!” I yelled, or I thought I did, I mean I heard my voice but my mouth didn't move. In fact I wasn’t moving, I was just standing there, frozen. But I could hear and see what my dad and aunt were doing and saying. “The dead is done, my sweet,” my dad said as he looked at her. “I can see,” she smiled and nuzzled his neck, “Now we can live in peace with no bratty kids and that annoyance of a wife you had.” She looked up at my dad and they kissed. “I have never been happier in my life,” my dad said as they both turned and disappeared into the deep dark everfree forest. I jolted awake, sitting up and putting my face in my hooves. The blankets were on the floor and Psychro, along with a foal we were both friends with, were at my bedside. Psychro climbed into bed with me and hugged me, “Another nightmare?” She said, I nodded my head and looked up at her. “This time dad and Syndicat were in it, you and mom were trapped in the burning house and they were in the woods. Dad set the house on fire to be with her.” My voice cracked and I started crying again. Psychro rubbed my back and said, “You know he would never do that, he loved both of us and mom.” I hate how calm she is, its been a year since this happened. But she was calm about this a week after it happened. We had no other family, they assumed that our dad died in the house as well, and our so called “aunt” had left days before the incident. I knew otherwise though and these dreams have been recurring ever since we got put in this orphanage. I looked at Psychro, then at Zuhan, “I’m sorry I woke you, both of you. Did Mrs come in here at all?” I said worried that someone had told her that I was having these dreams again. Psychro reassured me by shaking her head no. I sighed in relief and then whispered in her ear, “Can you sleep with me tonight?” She smiled and shook her head yes, which was a surprise since she doesn’t like breaking the rules. Zuhan went back to his bed and fell asleep. Me and Psychro fell asleep together like we used to do when we first got here.
Dacno part 2View OnlineThe BeginningsDacno part 2The next morning me and Psychro got ready to go to Canterlot. She had enrolled in Celestia's school for gifted unicorns over a year ago but we just got word of her getting a chance to prove her worthiness about a week ago. Me and her are the only ones going, Mrs doesn’t want to miss it but she can’t leave the others. And I’m lucky that I even get to go, Mrs originally said no but Psychro refused to go alone and without me. So she let me go because he sees Psychro having a big future and she wants her to learn how to control her magic outbursts and the fact that she freezes everything. One of the older orphan mares did our hair to make us both look presentable. I squirmed and complained as usual, while Psychro just sat there perfectly still. After that Mrs and most of the orphans walked us to the hot air balloon. We got on and waved goodbye. The whole time on the way there Psychro just sat in the basket calmly. While I couldn’t stop looking down over the edge of the basket, looking at the world beneath us. This is awful, but I can’t stop looking. This is why I don’t want to learn how to really fly. I shivered as I remember the first time mom took us up in one of these. Psychro was just a baby and I was just getting into school. I held on tight to my dads leg, and he had told me that we would be on the ground soon. I don’t remember why we went up in that thing in the first place. We arrived in Canterlot and the nice mare that brought us here took us to the place where the test is held. There was three judges and as I looked around the room there was scorch marks from the test that happened before and a giant cooked egg. I watched some of the teachers remove the egg, talking about the test before but I got distracted by the a unicorn pure white with a colorful, flowing mane that moved as if there was wind but then I soon realized she had wings. Everypony started to bow as she sauntered to the judge’s table she was stepping in for one of the judges whose mane caught on fire. The instructor walked up in the middle of the room, she was a white, slender mare with a pale pink mane, and introduce herself as Pink Gem. I saw Psychro tense up as Pink Gem called her up to the stand she walked slowly, ‘‘Ms. Psychro do you know what you’ll be doing today,’’ Pink Gem said. Psychro just shook her head and said, “N-no ma’am.” Pink Gem smiled softly and said, ‘‘Theres no reason to be afraid. There are three easy tasks you must complete to get in. From there will step it up to see your limits.” Psychro smiles shyly and nods her head in understanding. “The first test is an elemental spell. Shoot an element, the one you are best at using, at the target,” Pink Gem said and pointed a hoof at a target across the room. At least she doesn’t have to do a particular element spell, she can just use her freezing one. Psychro looked at me and I smiled at her, she smiled back and turned to face the target. Her horn started glowing a bright light blue and she lowered her head so that her horn was aimed directly at the target. It glowed even brighter, I backed up knowing that she was putting too much effort into it, knowing that it didn’t take much for her to freeze things. Psychro staggered back as a beam of light blue light hit the target. It shattered into a bunch of ice crystals, I took cover behind a table near by just incase. I peeked up as the room went quiet. Psychro was sitting on the ground and staring wide eyed at where the target used to be. I looked at the judges, Pink Gem had the same expression on her face as Psychro. Princess Celestia was giggling, but it was obvious she was trying to hide it. And the third judge, a blue stallion with a dark green main, was jotting down results like a mad man. I ran from behind the table and went to Psychro, “Are you okay?” I whispered, She nodded her head and said, “Did I do that?” She turned her head to look at me, it looked like she was on the verge of tears. I smiled and shook my head yes. “Shall we continue? You passed the first test,” we both looked up at Celestia. She smiled and continued talking, “The next test is blindfolded telekinesis, we will show you the object, then blindfold you. You must pick up the object within a minute.” Celestia levitated a crystal and set it on the table in front of Psychro, she also levitated a bandanna up toward Psychro. “Look at this crystal, and keep the image of it in your head. The test starts now,” the Princes said as she quickly blindfolded my sister. She then proceeded to move the crystal to the table beside me, she winked at me and I just looked at her confused. Psychro bowed her head and concentrated, her horn started to glow and then the crystal started to levitate even though she wasn’t facing it or even knew that it had been moved. She lifted it higher and then placed it back down gently. Woe it didn’t even freeze over like everything else, is she learning to control her magic? Or was it just because its a crystal. A golden glow wrapped around the bandanna as it was removed from Psychro. “Congratulations you have passed the second test,” Pink Gem chimed in before Celestia could. Psychro looked in front of her and was shocked when she didn’t see the crystal, “Did I blow it up like the target?!” She said in a panic looking all over the room. “No dear, its over there,” Celestia said looking and moving her head in my direction. I picked up the crystal in my mouth and brought it to Psychro. She levitated it out of my mouth and stared at it, astonished at fact that it wasn’t freezing over like everything else she touched with her magic. She smiled brightly and gave it back to Celestia, the Princess smiled at her and said, “Shall we continue Mrs. Gem?” Pink Gem nodded and said, “Psychro for your last test you must cast a special spell of your own, something that goes with your unique talent. If you pass this then you will proceed to the extra test. Are you ready to do this or do you need a minute to rest?” Psychro looked to me and smiled, “I think I’m ready to do this,” she said with such enthusiasm and confidence. Pink Gem and Celestia smiled and watched as Psychro performed her trick. I wasn’t to sure what she was going to do, i've never seen her do a spell like this. I watched as Psychros horn glowed that familiar light blue, It glowed brighter and it started to snow in the room. The room temperature dropped instantly and the snow started to build up. Her horn stopped glowing and the snow stopped falling but it was still extremely cold and the snow wasn’t disappearing. I’d only seen her do this one other time but it was in her sleep and she could barely walk. Pink Gem was about to say something but stopped when Psychro’s horn started to glow again. The snow started to form into a snowman, well the three sections of making one that is. She grabbed the bandanna Celestia had and wrapped it around where a scarf would go, then she took the crystal and used it as the nose. She then formed the small ice balls with her magic and put them where the eyes go, she did something similar to make arms. After building it she then paused and took a deep breath. Her horn started glowing brightly, then a layer of over glow appeared making it brighter as sparks started flying off of it. And then it stopped making her collapse in the snow, I rushed over to her, “Psychro are you okay?” I said panicked, she just sat up and smiled. She looked exhausted but she was smiling like her spell actually worked. I heard a gasp from behind me, I turned around to see the snowman moving. It wasn’t going fast, it actually moved sluggishly like it was struggling to just blink, but it managed and I was impressed. Celestia was impressed as well, Pink Gem and the other judge were flabbergasted as they watched the snowman slowly move toward Psychro. Psychro stood up and lowered her head, her horn glowed once more as she got rid of the snow and snowman. I caught her as she nearly collapsed onto the floor again. Pink Gem smiled brightly and said, “Congratulations I am very impressed with your skills and you will advance onto the next test.” Psychro jumped up in joy but then winced in pain, she rubbed her horn and sat down. “You okay?” I asked looking at her horn. “I’ll be fine, it just hurts,” she said as she half smiled. “I would like you two stay in the castle so that Psychro can rest and we can finish this tomorrow. I will have a guard escort you to the castle and where you will be sleeping. I must stay here for a couple more applicants. If you would like to see my personal doctor I will have you taken there immediately.” Celestia said as she stood up and walked toward us. Psychro stood up and said, “I think I’ll be okay, just need some rest. I appreciate it though, thank you Princess Celestia,” Psychro bowed to her and I did as well. “No need to thank me,” she said smiling, “Oh and congrats on getting your cutie mark.” Psychro whipped her head around to her flank, there was a broken light blue crystal with a few fragments where it was broken in half. She smiled really big and we both started at it. Celestia walked away and told a white Pegasi with a blue mane, wearing gold armor, to take us to the castle and show us our room. She whispered something that I couldn’t quite hear but I made out the word nurse, so I figure she told him to send for a nurse when we got to the room.
Dacno part 3View OnlineThe BeginningsDacno part 3The guard dropped us off at the guest room and then left immediately. I semi flew to the bed and started jumping on it, Psychro joined me and we just jumped in joy until we were tired. It felt like we were truly happy for the first time in a long time. We plopped down on the king sized bed and layed on our backs. “This is great sis, things are starting to look up. You are totally going to get into that school and become something great. And we get to live in this castle in the mean time. I’ll be going to flight school really soon here. Things are getting better,” I smiled and stared at the ceiling. I heard Psychro sniffle, I quickly turned over and looked at her. At that moment a nurse came in with a small bag in her mouth. She sat it down on the nightstand, “You must be Psychro, I’m just going to take your temperature and check your breathing. Just to see how you’re doing.” She made Psychro sit up and then she checked her temperature and heartbeat. Everything checked out and Psychro was in mint condition. The nurse gave her a pain relief pill and told her to get plenty of sleep tonight. She was gone in a jiff, just like the guard. “Hey we should walk around the castle,” Psychro said as she jumped off the bed. I said okay and left the room to walk around. “I hope we don’t get lost in here,” I said as we walked down the hallway. We passed one other pony within walking for about 20 minutes, we didn’t even pass any guards. It was sunset and I was getting sleepy and hungry. “Look,” Psychro pointed at double doors, over it there was a sign that said dining area. We rushed in to find a huge dining area, with multiple tables and about six cushioned chairs at each table. There was this sort of buffet type lunch line to our right and it seemed like there was always food available. “This must be where the royal guards and other staff eat,” I said as we scanned the place. “Hey look, two other ponies. Looks like a filly and a colt. We should say hi,” Psychro smiled and looked up at me. We walked over to them, they were sitting beside each other at one of the tables. “Hi,” Psychro said crawling up into one of the chairs in front of them, I did the same. “Hello, I’m Ocki and this is,” she paused and looked at the colt beside her. He tilted his head down but looked up at Psychro, his cheeks flushed and he whispered, “I-I’m Desani.” Psychro leaned toward him and said, “What was that?” He looked down and tilted his head farther down, “Desani,” he mumbled it and said quieter this time. Psychro put her hooves on the table and stood up in the seat, leaning in closer, “What?” He lifted his head a little and looked around her. He perked up instantaneously at the sight of Psychro’s cutie mark, “You have your cutie mark?!” He kinda yelled as he jumped out of his chair and ran under the table to Psychro. “Desani, don’t be rude. I’m sorry about him,” Ocki said as she glared at her little brother. Desani lifted a hoof and traced her cutie mark. She flinched away from his touch and nearly fell off the chair. “Hey don’t do that,” Psychro said jumping onto him, her horn started to glow and she froze his hooves to the tiled floor, pinning him down. She started to freeze farther up his legs, but abruptly stopped when Desani said, “Hey, me and my sister play this game.” Psychro gave him a weird look, me and her both turned our heads to look at Ocki. She was slouching in her chair and blushing really hard, “I don’t know what you’re talking about Desani.” Psychro looked at him and then back at her, “You can do ice magic too?” I face hoofed at the fact that she didn't understand what the “game” they play was. “Man that’s wrong Ocki,” I said looking at her. “I don’t even know what he’s talking about, I swear!” She yelled as she sat up real quick in her chair. I was about to say something else when Pink Gem walked into the dining hall. “Oh I see you have met these two already, and you’ve found the mess hall. This is where our guests and staff dine. Sometimes Celestia joins us,” she said as she sat down next to me. Psychro’s horn glowed and she got rid of the ice that was holding down Desani, then she climbed into the chair. Desani got up and crawled under the table to get back to his chair. “So what have you two been up to since I dropped you off in the mess hall, Desani and Ocki?” Pink Gem asked the other foals. “We were brought some sweets by the chef, and then we met these two. Did Psychro pass her entrance exam and get in like me? I would just love to room with her while we stayed here.” Ocki replied with a big smile. Psychro’s face turned a light shade of pink at the fact that Ocki wanted to be her roommate and possible friend. Pink Gem looked at Psychro, “well maybe you two can be roommates, but she hasn’t passed yet. We are giving her another test tomorrow, she needed a little time to rest. But I need to show you where you will be staying while you attend Celestia's school, Ocki. And Desani your parents are here to get you, since you can't stay with your sister.” A horrible realization washed over me as she said that, that means i'll have to leave if sis actually gets in...i'll be all alone in that awful Ponyville orphanage. I looked at Psychro, she was paying attention to what Pink Gem was talking about, it would be awful to wish that she didn’t get in because of my own selfish needs, and besides she won't be in here for long. “So you two stay here while I show Ocki her room and show Desani where his mom and dad are. Celestia will be done soon and will meet you here to feed you and talk about tomorrow,” Pink Gem said, smiling at me and Psychro. We nodded our heads and she left the dining hall along with Desani and Ocki. Me and Psychro were left there sitting side by side, no one else around, it seemed like it was completely silent for a moment. “Sis?” I said while looking at Psychro, she looked back at me with concern. My eyes teared up and I said, with a strained voice, “if you pass i’ll have to leave you...But I really want you to get in, even though i’ll be all...Alone.” She looked to the floor with a sad look on her face, “maybe I could convince the Princess that you have nopony else. Do you think that could work?” We looked up at eachother, “I-I’m not sure...Maybe we should just wait to talk about it tomorrow,” I said and smiled at her. She smiled back and we waited for Princess Celestia to come to the mess hall. She never showed up but the chef came out and fed us and told us when we were finished to leave the stuff there and go back to where ever we were staying. After we ate Psychro levitated the plates up to the buffet counter and we left and went back to the room.
