Chapter 1
It was summer when it all happened. To this very day snow crunches under my hooves brutally. Scaring my coat as it brushes against my skin roughly. That's what happened the first day everything went viral. I don't exactly know what happened that day. Rainbow Dash refused to tell me. The only other pegasi pony I know of that might know the story is Cloudchaser and Flitter. They were there the day our world went viral I believe. No one outside of the weather facility knows the story. All it's secrets stay in.
I struggled to gulp down the hot chocolate burning my throat. The scarf didn't help, but I decided to keep on the five pounds of blue and green wool. My pink cheeks started to ease down. So did Sweetie Belle's with all the heat entering our throats. It had been a while since I had felt such heat. Sweetie Belle had finished her cup, and pushed her green coffee mug in the middle of the table while me and Apple Bloom were just getting started.
"Here's another cup dear," Rarity refilled Sweetie Belle's cup quickly, the steam striking her nose.
"Thanks Rarity," Sweetie Belle kindly thanked her sister, starting to drink the second cup of coco.
I pushed my cup to the middle of the table. It banged against Sweetie Belle's.
"What's wrong Scoot?"
"I don't want to talk about it . . ." I responded, moving my purple mane out of my eyes.
"Are you still upset that Rainbow Dash won't tell you about the incident?" Apple Bloom found herself in the conversation.
I was silent, "You could say that,"
Rarity walked up behind me. She dragged a chair from the other side of me, and sat down by me. " Somethings are just better off a secret dear. Rainbow Dash is probably just protecting you. Herself. Probably the weather corporation,"
"Do you know what happened?" I asked looking up at her, my eyes sparkling.
"No . . ." Rarity sighed, "Like I said. Somethings just aren't capable of being told. Especially not to a filly like yourself,"
"I'm not a filly anymore!" I pushed myself up using my hooves. My cheeks turned a bright red once more, as Rarity gasped with Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle. "I'm not . . . A filly . . . anymore" I breathed in between words heavily. "I'm not a filly," I stated once more, walking out of the kitchen and out the front door,"
"I'll go get her," I could hear Sweetie Belle speak, then the soft sound of hooves walking across the hallway.
The snow was thick and about five more inches then it was this morning, which was about three. It crunched under my hooves, as snow, and snowflakes piled up on my hair. The farthest I could get from the house was about ten centimeters till I heard Sweetie Belle walking up behind me.
"Come on in Scootaloo. It's freezing out here!"
I sat down in the snow. It was colder then I could ever imagine, but if sitting meant less time with Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom, then I would sit in the snow for hours.
"Scootaloo . . . Come on you'll freeze out here. Don't you want to be inside with me and Apple Bloom? Rarity's making us some smores over the fire," Silence, "Fresh? Come on Scoot, we gotta get inside!" Sweetie Belle spoke through her teeth, as she grabbed my scarf, and tried pulling me through the snow. I slid a few centimeters back, in till I stood up with pain in my thys, and stomped inside.
"Scootaloo! Your thys are Pinker then Apple Bloom's ribbon!" Rarity walked up to me, inspecting my freezing body.
"Get your hooves of me!" I shook away from her me .
I kicked Rarity away. Guilt filled my mind. The only good thing to do was to get out of the house and get home before it was too late.
"Scootaloo! Wait!" Apple Bloom's farm accent stopped me from leaving the palace like house. "Do you want me to walk with you?" She asked kindly.
"Don't bother. My house is just a few blocks away," And so, I continued to walk out of the house. I slammed the door shut after viciously opening it with my hooves. The town was empty. Not a single mare or stallion walking around in search of food, or shelter. I guess I was the only one without a real family. Without a real sibling. Mom or pa.
Thunder Lane landed in front of me disgusted. Ashamed. Annoyed possibly?
"Why did you risk freezing to death instead of waiting for me to come get you?" He bit my wings slightly by the tip, then threw me on his back. He began to flutter his wings up and down, then took off as the snow fell on the two of us.
"Well?" He asked waiting for me to answer.
"I didn't want to stay," My response came out quickly. I returned to staring at the snow while he flew us home.
"That's not a good enough reason Scoot! Your wings could have fallen off or have gotten burned badly. It might just seem like snow, but it's dangerous as times. Especially when the pegasi ponies can't control it. You haft to learn about weather safety and what to do in case it goes viral. I guess your pa never taught you," I was silent, "Ma?"
"None. I didn't have parents growing up . . ."
Thunder Lane was quiet. Like the rest of the flight home . . .
I bit the end of my scarf, pulling it off and carefully placing it on my bed. Thunder Lane walked in.
"Bedtime,"
"But, what about Rumble?"
"He's at Flitter's house. He'll be staying for a few days. Get some rest, tomorrow's a busy day,"
I crawled into my bed, having Rumble tuck me in. He turned off the lights, but not before saying, "Goodnight," I smiled, knowing that he actually cared. I looked around at all the pics of Rainbow Dash, The cutie mark crusaders, (back when we were actually cutie mark crusaders,) and me and Thunder Lane on days like this, when Rumble was left at Flitter's cloud.
Out of all the photos me and Thunder took together, my favorite one was by my bed. It was me and Thunder on a snowy day back before everything went viral. We had our scarfs on, and I was finally helping with the winter wrap up. I was left in charge of getting the snow off the ground. Thunder Lane was up in the clouds, playing with Rumble. Having fun. I was just left on the ground. The only filly. The only pegasus filly on the ground; was me . . . I was left in the shadows. Thunder Lane came and traded work places with a pegasus filly named Daren, just so he could comfort me.
It was the only day in my life that real made me smile as much as I did.
I woke up frightened. My throat was filled with something, and this something wasn't snow. It was a fogyish substance that was puffy and felt like acid against my throat. I coughed it up, as I noticed that the windows were completely closed and some broken glass was on the floor next to a picture frame. I sat up, and got out of bed, cutting my hoof on a shard of glass.
I fell back on my bed, as I could hear the hail outside, pounding on the roof.
"Thunder!?" I yelled, getting up and limping throughout the house as the hail broke the windows. I galloped outside to see that half of CloudsDale had left. Rainbow Dash was still living in her house, but other then that, all the posters and poles had been torn down, and a thick hail covered the clouds.
"Scootaloo! What are you doing outside?" Thunder galloped up to me. I could see his silhouette when he got closer, then he dragged me inside the house, noticing a line of blood that dripped on the clouds.
"What happened to your hoof?" He asked me once we got inside. He placed me on the kitchen table and wrapped my hoof up with a thick bandage. By the time it was completely wrapped around my leg, it was drenched in blood.
"Your hoof's really bleeding there,"
"I stepped on some broken glass by my bed,"
"Well, I'm glad it's not that serious,"
"Where's Rumble?" I cut to the chase. He stopped pressing a cotton ball covered in alcohal against my leg, and stared at the ground.
"I don't know. I was out looking for him and Flitter down by the house. I found nothing but a few empty rooms and broken glass everywhere. I might go and look for him again this afternoon or when the weather dies down,"
"Do you think I can go over to Apple Bloom's? She has a shelter over there and some food,"
"It depends on whether or not I find Rumble. If I do manage to find him, then you can head down there. If not, your helping me look,"
"Ok . . ." I didn't argue as he continued to put the damp cotton ball up against my skin. "Wait. Did you say that Rumble was with Flitter?"
"Yea. Why?"
"Was she apart of the weather corporation?"
Thunder Lane was silent for a few moments, "Yes. Yes she was,"
