A young man named Nicholas gets lost and almost dies after inadvertently crossing the border to Equestria on a hiking trip. He recovers in Canterlot, and although apprehensive at first, he warms up…until Princess Celestia tells him there is no way back to his own world.

At first, Nicholas is emotionally destroyed: he can't go back to his home, go back to see his family and friends, he can't live the life he once knew. But soon, he finds himself enjoying his new life in Canterlot. He can't discern why, but on the night of The Grand Galloping Gala, it comes to him.

He has an epiphany when he dances with the sun.
