A Metallic Mind
An Unexpected Journey
‘‘Victory my friends, victory'', I say with an enthusiastic tone of voice.
But the fact of having blood on my hands from non-stop bloodshed of war lasting two decades but I am glad that it’s finally over. I place my hand over Azid's shoulder with a smile on my face, it’s meaningful to my friends but we all know that this is not a pleasant memory.
‘‘It’s behind us now, only a fault of life'' Lief calmly uttered.
I can agree but all creatures in this universe have aggression and we know that but it also means that this will probably not be the last of the fighting. we have been walking for around forty-five minutes but I soon locate out ship witch I camouflaged so it couldn't be noticed and as I unravel it my worries are put to the side by the fact that the class two Imperial freighter which I like to call Vic-ta is unmoved or damaged in anyway.
''Shall we get strait to it? Or shall we ponder for a bit before going home to the victory celebration'' Lief suggested
but I was in a hurry to get to the medical bay for my wounds.
As we enter through the rust covered hatch, I for some reason get the feeling to look back at the environment. So I do, and quickly do I notice that the pile of leaves near the hatch opening has shifted. Immediately I am paranoid and in a worry, running to the hatch control lever and quickly closing it for safety and caution. Jumping though the doorways nearly tripping half the time towards the bridge were Azid is sitting on one of the left sided seats fiddling with her boots and taking them off.
‘‘Where is Lief!?'' shouting even though I didn't mean to but it just slipped out.
''I think he has gone to the armory to unload all of his remaining ammunition and foodstuffs, why''?
''I think we might be in a little trouble because there is something wrong about this feeling that I'm getting and that we should get the hell out of here right away.'' I utter loudly.
The thought of Lief left my mind pretty much instantly while I rush into the pilot's seat and begin to make adjustments and prepare all the system requirements for take-off. Out of nowhere Lief rushes in yelling at the top of his voice
“What the hell is going on here? Is there something that I should know?” He said in a really demanding tone of voice. “I don't know but he seem really focused to do it'' Azid says while looking at Crithion with a curios stare.
I finish with all the stupid flight preparation shit and finally start to hover and then gradually increase in altitude. Flicking dials, thrusting the joystick back and forth I seem to know what I'm doing but the paranoia taken over my whole body causing me to make silly mistakes like bumping and hitting some trees. Leif stands beside me for a bit until I had gotten us into a kind-of safe area in the sky then he gave a force filled slap on my jaw-bone and without caution puts his hands on my head and turns it towards him so he could get my attention.
'”TELL ME WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON...NOW!” he moans in a really demanding and pitiful tone.
I turn back to the controls, making sure i can talk to him without any interruptions. A few minutes pass. Lief is still waiting for an answer and after some more flicking of dials I turn back to him and ask both him and Azid to take a seat for I have some rather uncomforting news. I begin talking, telling them about the pile of shifted leaves and how I am getting this feeling that we are being followed but the sentences are soon interrupted by a sudden explosion. The bridge filled with sparks, smoke and a ringing sound, the force of it cause all of us to fall out of our chairs and fall across the floor. I try to pick myself up but I am discouraged by a huge pain in my right side. I forgot all about my slight injuries and being distracted easily makes me the perfect one to an elite Entraxian solider but as we know that is not a choice we can make its a birth thing.
I try another time and I succeed, pulling myself up and coughing while doing so. i call out to see if their alright and by the sounds I receive I think they are, Azid being the first to speak
''What the bloody-ell was that?"
I shake my head in confusion but as my head turns I can see out the window and all I saw was flames and smoke. Leaf slowly approaches the window and gives us both a description on what he sees.
''Well I’ve got good news and bad news'' he says in a sarcastic reply. I tell him to cut the crap and just answer me. ‘‘Fine, um, you may not like this but one of our engines is, well half gone.''
Helping Azid to stand up and then slowly walk towards the reinforced window, it turns out that Lief was right, almost the entire engine is missing and the rest of it is in flames. troubled by this incident the others finally believe me that I knew something was up before and now we must continue the predicament of battle even though this bloody war is meant to over. Lief runs to the outer end of the bridge and tries to get a better look at what shot us in the first place.
‘‘Um you guys are not going to believe this but what shot us was, an Irrithiec scout, from below maybe from those bushes down there near where we were grounded.”
Knowing that these were the very enemies we were fighting only a few days ago i come to my senses and use the training that i was taught many years ago. i immediately remember about important leadership and the knowledge flows though me like a river and take course of action.
''Okay guys you know the drill, get to your posts and DEFEND THIS DAMN SHIP!''
Strait up and quick as a flash Azid and Leif head of in different directions, Azid strapping herself into one of the three semi-working turrets and prepares for something to come out of no-ware and shot at it. Lief, sits at the command console controlling the shields and the other important services. I however have to steer this thing away to safety with complete competence and perseverance.
We have flown around 50 kilometers since the explosion and have made minor repairs to the engine but still have not enough thrust to get back home to Coriath. I have been working on some highly experimental nuclear pulse reactors but they will probably either explode or do something as equally devastating. I just shuffle that thought aside and ponder what will happen next in this sudden event. After a while of silent flight above the cloud layer we all meet in the bridge to a company what has happened but like I thought as soon as we came together in the same room we would get attacked or something as eventful will happen and it did. Like last time we all head off to our designated positions and three Irrithiec fighters plunge out of the lower clouds and take a few shots at us. The first two fire and get a direct hit but the third misses and accidentally hits one of its own, causing it to crash land.
‘‘Well that's one down, two to go'', Azid spoke with a laugh at the side while trying to hammer the other two that remained.
Another few shots are fired at us and the second engine is crippled but still good enough to provide some support for the other three engines.
''We can't take much more of this'', I sit there screaming though the P.A system but i don't think that the other two heard the announcement.
The frantic continues and nothing besides a few return shots have been fired, at this rate we will be shot down in minutes.
In a state of panic I, of all of us, am thinking frequently about those damn pulse reactors. After a while of distant whirls and spark noises lingering around the cabin I do the most stupid thing. I get up from the controls not considering future possibilities and start thinking'' fuck it'' even if I didn't do this we would be dead soon anyways. Not telling Azid or Lief I head down to the mechanics bay and start flicking switches and levers. Only one left and that's the initiate control lever...after a moment of silence I go for it and force the lever down into the on position. OK I stand here thinking to myself ''right I have just done the most retarded thing ever but what can ya’ do?'' moments of silence and then "SHOO-CLANG" a huge burst of sound and energies captivated the entire room. The reactors slowly fire up and spin with a faint blue glow in the lines were the metal meets at different ends. i still have a ring in my ears when i turned them on but I managed to get back to the bridge only then remembering my wounds and i slowly sit down on a bench nearby the control platform. Azid and Lief enter the room both with worried facial expressions and a curious look to one another.
"What did you do?" Lief asks.
"You didn't try your pulse reactors, did you?" Azid interrupts lief's question with her own.
I get back up without answering either of them and head over to my piloting seat. I sit down very slowly with caution to my injuries and begin piloting the ship once more.
“What are you doing?” Lief asks. “I am trying save our fucking lives, that is what I’m doing?”
“You have not tested these things yet, this could kill us!” Lief yells with more caution. "Better than the current situation we are in if you ask me?"
I say while channeling the energy created from the reactor into the remaining and what’s left of the engines for thrust. I do this; hopefully I did it correctly and engage the reactor to maximum efficiency. And it worked; the energy created from the reactor gave the engines more power and boost, a little too much boost. Fighting to keep the ship in a straight line our speed has reached monstrous levels and we are still creating more power than the ship can handle. Almost going at light speeds the visibility and control are pretty much gone. I notice in my faint blur of sight that there is a bubble like thing being generated around the ship. Seconds after I saw this, an en-gulping light consumed the entire room and my mind went blank.
I woke to find that we were in a sub-orbital trajectory heading towards a unfamiliar bright looking planet. unable to control the ship I grab Azid and Lief's unconscious bodies and drag them into a small but strong storage compartment in the armory (thank god it was not far from the bridge) and lock the bolted door sealing us inside to survive this crash that will be soon upon us. The door is locked and the room is made out of Transforium steel so we will survive (hopefully). All I know is that I'm willing to go anywhere if it means survival.
