Element of Regret

Redemption

She glided through the forest as fast as she could, her wings giving out on her a little more every second she attempted to get away from them. The rain, almost as to mock her, poured heavily, rendering her flying useless at a moderately fast pace. Hoof prints violently indented the muddy ground in the tens of hundreds as they chased the young filly tirelessly as the night progressed.

She was being chased like a wild animal, no where to go, no one she could trust. All she could trust now was her flying. The sole reason she was in this mess.

I would give anything to hear them call me a chicken again....I would give both of these horrid things away happily! Cried the terrified filly in her head.

She hoped, she prayed that redemption could come.

Can I ever be forgiven? Could I ever go back to Ponyville? Will things ever be the same???

She doubted every thought of hope that came into her head. She knew it was too late. It was too much she had done. All she wanted was to fly. All she wanted was to show every pony she wasn't a flightless bird anymore.

"Dammit all, DAMMIT ALL!!" She yelled, failing to fight back tears that helplessly flowed with the rain." Why does my life always turns into a big mess! Why is it that I'm the one everyone hates!" She cried in to the deafening sound of heavy rain.

She had just learned flying from Rainbow Dash. It had taken weeks for her to get the hang of flapping and maintaining her floating--Even longer to start flying. But she did it, within a year, she was soaring high above the sky, carefree and brilliantly.

She felt like a million bits! She had worked hard for this moment--The moment she'd never be ridiculed for her inability to fly again. She finally had a real shot at being cool like Rainbow Dash. Everything looked like it could only get better form here.

And then..it happened.

CELESTIAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SCOOTALOO, STOP!!!!!!!!!

It was over a month after all the intense flying. Day in and day out Rainbow Dash had her working her flank off; Wing-ups and practice racing had brought Scootaloo's speed to an amazing level. It wasn't Rainbow Dash, but it was certainly impressive, especially for a filly her age.

Rainbow Dash........R-rainbow Dash.....She said solemnly choking on her grief.

It was my fault. She knew....she said I needed better control to match my speed...but I didn't listen..

It was a good day. The sun was shining, and the wind was a steady breeze in Ponyville. Rain was scheduled for the day, but she'd have plenty of time for her debut in the Filly's Talent Show. Ponies from all over the town were going to show their talents, and she was going to impress everyone with her own. Even the princess was going to be there! She had a chance to impress everyone.

She was so proud of her progress....so, so proud...

..maybe a little too proud.

Scootaloo's flying had hit an amazing caliber of speed, but she couldn't control it, she and Rainbow Dash both knew this. However, Scootaloo had grown too shallow. She would boast about her talent to everyone, no matter how painfully under-developed. She would get into fights and arguments with fillies and older ponies alike if they judged her flying. She wouldn't allow anyone to, other than Rainbow Dash.

Scootaloo's new found abilities and attitude created a rift in the CMC's friendship. Eventually, she stopped talking to Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom to train for furthering her abilities. She could feel her cutie mark coming to her everyday she got faster. She wanted it. She needed it.

The day settled as ponies showed their stuff to the judges and Celestia alike. From roping, to singing and cute little dances, they all had a pretty cool talent. And then came in Scootaloo ready for action! She immediately took to the sky and dashed like a speeding bullet back and fourth. She was fast, and impressive, but not very entertaining. She tried a couple zig-zags but lost her balance pretty badly, and in the end she lost to another filly who could juggle.

Why did I lose!? I worked day and night for this moment! They weren't even impressed! she thought angrily. Well, I'll show them, I'll show them all!

Scootaloo ran front stage just as every pony was leaving. She wanted recognition, she wanted to be better than all the other fillies. She wouldn't allow herself to just accept second place. She dared herself to push her limits and perform the ultimate trick to win it all.

"Prepare to be amazed as I perform a SONIC RAIN-BOOM!" She cried aloud.

Without a second thought, she zoomed towards the sky at an alarming rate. within seconds she was indistinguishable from the light of the sun.

"STOP SCOOTALOO, YOU CAN'T CONTROL IT!" Rainbow Dash yelled to her pupil.

Scootaloo didn't listen as she rushed as fast as she could towards the stage, trying to break the sound barrier.

She spread her wings backwards to allow herself the full velocity of speed possible. The wind started breaking to match her force in the wind, forming a spiral when it should've been a clean surge of air slicing her path. Rainbow Dash looked in horror as she could see that she was going to either fail, or succeed in the worst way possible.

Rainbow braced herself to try and catch Scootaloo.

Scootaloo continued her pace and increased it even further to form what was a spiraling bullet going head first into the ground.

Allllmost....there....... She thought.

Almost........

Rainbow Dash flexed her wings before speeding towards Scootaloo in order to break her fall. Scootaloo saw her and tried her best to stop herself, but it was too late. She picked up too much velocity that was simply out of her control at this point.

I'm gonna crash, I'm gonna crash!! She thought, unable to stop herself from flying.

Suddenly Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo collided and a large rainbow formed in a circle. A large light cast over the entire town.

When ponies came to, half of Ponyville had ceased to exist. Everyone at that stage, including princess Celestia had died instantly from the impact. Trees wilted and grass burned to shrivels. Crops were ashes, and homes collapsed. The oxygen released inhumane amounts of carbon dioxide, and ponies left and right collapsed as they suffocated. She had single handedly destroyed half the town all with a powerful burst of speed that, because of her lack of control, shot the energy outwards instead of behind her. Instead of a trail of beautiful rainbows guiding her flight pattern, she created chemical explosion with a blast radius similar to a rainbow's influence. Because Rainbow Dash took the fall for her, Scootaloo didn't die with everyone, she simply appeared through the smoke and fog like a cause for plague.

She caused a Sonic Rain-Bomb..

A light could be seen in the forest. Her heart pounded seeing her own shadow in the distance.

"She's over here, every pony!" The raven alicorn yelled loudly.

"Twilight, why? Why would you help them chase me like a rodent...?" She silently whispered as she could not help but fight back tears simply hearing her voice.

How could she? Weren't they friends? Didn't she care about her?

If Twilight is after me, then so is everyone else.....Rarity, Fluttershy, Applejack...they'll all want to kill me..She kept thinking.

Please, no......please no! I don't want this, I don't want any of this! She wished she could turn back time. She wished she never learned how to fly. She wished she had stayed with Sweetie Belle and Applebloom and continued doing fruitless conquests for their cutie marks.

These thoughts surged violently as her wings gave out, and she was forced to start running. She kept stumbling and failing over herself, but she wouldn't allow herself to slow down. But it was a pointless effort. they grew closer even faster, as she was just too small to be able to maneuver the slippery, dirty ground better than the ponies chasing her.

Running desperately, the light grew strong and stronger, reaching her.

They're going to catch me, they're going to CATCH me! She thought terrified

She kept rambling different thoughts, but they would be interrupted abruptly by a strong mare's violent tackle on her small body.

"I've got her, y'all! She may be a fast flier, but she's just a lil' filly on her legs!" The mare yelled condescendingly, masqueraded in the dark.

"Applejack, please let me go, don't kill me please!" She begged the orange mare.

Applejack did not respond to her cries and only forced her hoof deeper in Scootaloo's side, making her wince in pain. Scootaloo tried her best to wriggle away from Applejack's grasp, and only gained a strong stomp in the face in kind. Her face hurt, her whole body hurt, and she lost the will to run as the angry mob finally caught up to her.

It didn't take long before the whole of Ponyville's adults caught up to where Applejack caught Scootaloo. The lightning struck as if to announce the arrival of the mane six as they stood over Scootaloo with hatred burning in their eyes.

"Twilight, everyone, please...I'm so, so sorry for what I've done...I'll do anything to make up for it, so please....please don't hurt me..!!" She sobbed as she desperately begged to be spared.

Twilight closed her eyes. As she sighed, she opened them again with tears running freely.

"Because of you, we've lost everything..we've lost the elements, we've lost the princess: Forever. Because of you." She said abhorrently. She inched closer towards her as ponies tied her body to a tree to prevent any escape. They moved her over so to expose her back. "We're not going to kill you, Scootaloo. We're going to make sure you never do what you've done to any pony else." She stated, coldly.

"No, please NO!" The young filly begged, fearing the worse. The cries were pointless as they fell onto deaf ears. Ponies had surrounded her, with weapons and glaring horns aimed at her. Their anger transcended everything everyone learned about friendship and about peace. Forgiveness was not an option; No one was leaving that spot until they felt that they had given her exactly what an out-of -control Pegasus should receive.

The pink one grabbed a machete that one of the ponies armed themselves with and placed the knife carefully over her wing's sprouts. Scootaloo couldn't speak anymore, the fear left her whimpering barely audible words begging her to stop. The pink mare's hair was no longer the bubbly mane that brought her and her friends great enthusiasm from simply seeing her afar. She couldn't tell whether it was from the rain or not, but she seemed darker, her hair was straight from the rain...right?

Scootaloo looked eye to eye with her. Her sky blue eyes no longer shimmered with positivity and her usual happy-go-lucky aura. It was only an ominous mirror to the soul, reflecting nothing but Scootaloo's mistakes, and the pink mare's malice.

"Rainbow Dash and Celestia are gone because of your little stunt...You destroyed all those homes, and you run away. You really are a fucking chicken, you know that?" She insulted with sure detest in her voice. Scootaloo could hear her heart breaking from Pinkie's words.

"I'd give anything to have them back. It was an accident, I swear.." Scootaloo whimpered. "I let my pride get the better of me, and I didn't know it would happen, I didn't know I'd-"

She was interrupted by Rarity's outburst. "You killed not just the princess and Dash, but Applebloom and Sweetie--my dear sister..." She began sobbing as Twilight placed a hoof on her shoulder. "....Not to mention EVERYONE at that stage and half of the village!" She screamed with tears in her eyes.

She ruined so much........so many people died because she wouldn't stop being reckless for recognition she didn't deserve. They had finally grown sick of it. Her selfish behaviors cost their loved ones their lives.

Without so much as another moment of hesitation, Pinkie sliced through her wing sprouts, the deafening rain trying it's best to overpower Scootaloo's horrifying shriek of pain as the blood ran endlessly through her back and onto the ground. Scootaloo couldn't think anymore, she could only scream as she writhe about in the ropes, that didn't even allow her to cover her back as the searing pain barraged her psyche.

She thought to herself that there would be no better cure to this pain than to die right then.

Eventually, the screaming stopped, as did the rain, and only the quiet sobbing of the wingless filly's helplessness resounded.

They untied the ropes, knowing she was too exhausted to move from where they placed her. Pinkie, with Scootaloo's bloody wings smearing her mouth, spat them in front of her as a reminder of the punishment they dealt. Scootaloo only looked at Pinkie once, but horrified looked away. She looked like a vampiric devil, or a crazed cannibal, with nothing but animosity written in her eyes.

Scootaloo could only sit there, emotionless as she looked at her two wings spread lackadaisically on the forest ground. Thinking about it, they had no reason to forgive her. She was just a homeless filly they had so graciously accepted even though she was always casing trouble for them with her scooter antics. And even when she became an uppity little foal once she learned to fly, they still accepted her. But today was the last straw for them. She knew they never cared, but friendship is a thing that you can feign, too. Maybe her life was just meant to see this day. To see her kill the only ponies who actually cared about her, and for the rest to heartlessly mutilate her, and leave her to look at her blood-stained wings. Maybe her life was simply to become a chicken in the end.

She walked aimlessly through the forest, dry tears flowing in her hopeless eyes from the pure disgust of carrying her wings in her mouth. She thought to herself that without Rainbow Dash and Celestia, Equestria may be destroyed.

She realized she may have destroyed everything.

Only one thing clouded her mind:

She wanted to be forgiven. She wanted to make up for it all, but she couldn't. She never could. She was just a flightless filly for the rest of her life--For real this time. She didn't complain about not getting her cutie mark, she could only think about her filly friends that she ended up killing every time she did.

Regret.....regret........I regret even being born.....She said to herself as the day broke the horrid night

Author's Note

This is a one shot I started thinking of and went with it. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Disclaimer: This never actually happened. Also, I love Scoots,so just be assured that this wasn't to attack her, just a story that came to mind that I couldn't let go of lol

Also, it should go without saying that Sonic Rain booms are pretty bucking fast. Don't expect Celestia to have some inhumane Dragon Ball Z reactions(xD)
