Saderine was standing the the Changling Palace Throne room before her mother. She was a young teen in this time, making her final act of rebellion. Her design was as simple as any other changling, black coat, holes in her hooves and hair, fangs, wings and a horn, Oh, except for two things, she had a pink mane and tail and she fed of of normal food. It was a rare condition that very few changelings had but, Saderine was grateful for it.. She would never be evil like her mother. Standing before her mother took a lot of courage and most people would say she was down right crazy..
Her home in the changling castle was the craziest thing of all, she never got to do her own thing. She was constantly told what to do and how to do it. Most of the servants were nice though.The only problem she had was how her nanny was always pestering her about making new friends. Well FRIENDS in general. Saderine never actually had any friends. She was way too different, not like that bothered her. She usually liked being by herself. It gave her time to think and draw and do one changling things. All of the little changlings at school made fun of her for having pink hair because all the other mares had purple and green. The boys were just as bad.. They teased her and called her ugly. They told her she was an unimportant nerd that would grow up and be alone. They called her so lame the queen would banish her. Pft as if! None of them knew she was a princess and she guesses that they never needed to. They would all treat her nicely if she told them. They would pretend to be her friend to get good spots in all the popular things.. Saderine would rather take real ridicule and loneliness over fake smiles and friendship. Friendship... something her mother never got. Ever since Princess Twilight Sparkle became well, Princess, Chrysalis had been planing the future for her daughter. She always says.
" Revenge is sweet but friendship is a dangerous thing." Saderine never got that about her mother. She wanted to go see the world and go see friendship happen! She wanted to be her own free pony. She wanted to use the shape shifting spell her mother taught her so she would never have to come back to this hell hole. Today, her mother is going to accept that. She had a conversation with Ursa Teddy earlier and he thought she was right!!! It was time to stand up against her mother. Well not really against but you know, for HER greater good. Her mother needed to know whats what in this crazy place.
"Saderine, this is unreasonable!!! You belong here as an heir to the throne!!!" The changling queen Chrysalis said to her daughter.
" You will become the queen and you will be the descendent to take over Equestria!!!!" She said followed by an evil laugh. Saderine stared at her mother wishing she would see that that wasn't what she wanted. No one understood. She realized that once her mother told her that she would be the queen when she was small. The little changling opened her mouth but only a choke came out. Chrysalis looked surprised as she saw her daughter's eyes water.
" S-Sader--"
" NO!!!!! I WILL NEVER BE LIKE YOU!!! I WILL NEVER RULE EQUESTRIA!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE EVIL AND I AM SICK AND TIRED OF YOU THINKING I WILL EVER BE!!!!!!!!" The hurt young changeling said as she ran off to her room.
Chrysalis sat and stared at where her daughter stood moments ago. She buried her face in her hooves and cried for the first time since Princess Cadence and Prince Shining Armor banished her. She herd a noise and looked up. It was a guard, holding a note in his magical green aura. Chrysalis scowled at this interruption but, took the not in her aura, dismissing him. She read the note
Dear Mom, yadadadadadadadaddadadadadadadadad *GASP*
" Guards!!!!" She yelled with worry. Suddenly five guards in Celestial armor flashed in to the throne room.
" Yes your highness??" He said looking surprised at her red eyes. She grabbed him in her aura.
" Where is my daugh--" She stopped as she saw a pegasus fly away from Saderine's balcony. Her face dropped. The guards realized what she was looking at and stood waiting for direction. As if they needed any.
" Go!!! Get her!! That is Saderine!!!" They all looked at each other in confusion. " GO GO GO" The queen yelled running to her daughter's room, taking the lead. Hoping she could get there fast enough to convince Saderine not to leave.
Saderine decided that night that she didn't what to be Saderine anymore.With the glow of her horn she changed her appearance. This one was her favorite creation. No stealing love or taking over people or any evil crap. A new start. She had a pink coat and red hair. She had uneven cropped down bangs and a short straight mane. She was a pegasus with soft wings. Saderine really liked art so she figured she would make that her cutie mark. One big grey star and three weird shaped thingies! She packed a huge bag for her long life and all her savings, One hundred thousand bits and three hundred ninety-three rubies and gemstones. She flew out her window and to the outskirts of the city. She remembered all the good times she had in the city with her mother. Going to get ice cream, going to the park and learning how to shape shift. She especially remembered listening to her mother's describing of Equestria. This started her dream of going there. The way Chrysalis described it made it sound full of magic and wonder and beauty. This city didn't have that. NO, happiness all over. No nice ponies that greet hello even if they don't know you. No freedom to be who you wanted to be. Not what the queen wanted. She knew where she was heading. Los Pegasus. The most beautiful city in all of Equestria ( Well, besides Canterlot, the Capitol). She has heard about it. Some changlings went there and stayed after the attack on Equestria when Princess Cadence and Prince Shining Armor got married...... A guard came out and tried to grab her.. He missed. Ha. Saderine saw her mother in the window yelling at her.
" Saderine! No, don't go! I promise I won't yell anymore. I will be better." She pleaded in between sobs. The teen filly was full of rage.. She wasn't Saderine. She would never be. Although she was surprised her mother remembered her disguise..
" I will never come back!!!! You have no control over me anymore! I can be who I want to be and you can't stop me!!" She yelled as she started to transport
" Get her you fools!!" Queen Chrysalis yelled.. Not realizing it was to late..
Saderine flashed and was transported to a valley. She gave out a sigh of relief as she looked at her magical map. Tears formed in her eyes as she turned to the direction of Los Pegasus and started flying that way.
Goodbye City. Goodbye rude fillies. Goodbye Saderine.
Hello Los Pegasus. Hello New life. Hello Shimmer Shine
The city lights shone brightly in the reflection her eyes. Shimmer Shine had gotten to Los Pegasus only an hour ago and she was still taking in it all. The big buildings with loud music and colorful walls and floors were all over the city. As well as the landmarks of other parts of Equestria. Shimmer Shine stopped in front of a library to catch her breath. She looked up at the title sign and saw this was no ordinary library. It was The Los Pegasus Inspired Readers Library. Her mother had gotten her a book from this very library. Shimmer Shine gasped realizing she had the very book in her backpack. She took it out and held it in her hooves. She chuckled to herself remembering she can't use her hidden horn in public. That book was her favorite book in the whole Changeling city. I was all about the princesses of Equestria and all the cities ruled by the princesses. Los Pegasus, Maretopalis and Ponyville alike. Canterlot, Appaloosa and Clousdale too. She studied all the cities carefully deciding which on she would go to while she was still in her home city. She wove her hoof over the book before coughing violently. Again and again she found herself not breathing the same air.
"While i was in Equestria" her mother had said " It took my hours to get used to the air. I even found myself not breathing any air at some moments" Her eyes grew wide as she clenched her throat. A pegasus mare wearing glasses who was in the store came out and put her hoof on Shimmer's back. Shimmer Shine still struggled to breathe and she fell to the ground.
" This mare needs a doctor!!!!" The mare screamed "Stargazer!!! Call the hospital!!!!!" She called out to a young filly in the window. The filly flew off to get the phone. Everything went black..
" Shimmer Shine?" Shimmer heard her name being called out but she couldn't see anything. She moved and struggled. As she did she felt hooves placed on hers and her eyes fluttered open in a scared state. Her breathing was heavy as she saw the nurses holding her arms down looking at her like a mad pony. " Shimmer Shine" A pony said. She turned to see it was the mare who saved her and settled down.
" Whats going on? Who are you and where am I?" She asked cautiously looking around at the new ponies. She gasped and looked down thankful to see her coat was still pink and her mane was still red and orange. The other ponies again looked at her like she was crazy. A new pony, a colt wearing a doctors white thingy and holding a clipboard, came up.
" This" he said pointing to the not so new pegasus. " Is Swift Write. You will be staying with her until you get back on your hooves. And for the 'whats going on where am I side of things' you are in the hospital. You passed out after not being able to breathe." He finished
" WHAT?!?!?!" Where is my bag?! She said with anger that they were choosing what she was going to do for her and worry for her bag with all her valuables and money in it. She sat of and after a death look to them, made the nurses let go of her. The doctor looked at her with worry and confusion but before he could say anything and before Shimmer could freak out Swift Write came up and put the bag on her forelegs.
" I grabbed it so no pony would steal it. I figured if you have a book in it it might as well be important." She said like she was saying she was proud of Shimmer Shine having a book. Shimmer had tears of joy in her eyes that this random pony would do that. She had never felt such kindness before. She wrapped her arms around Swift's neck and gave her a huge hug. " Oh!!" Swift gestured. But she hugged back not wanting to hurt feelings.
" Sooo" When can i get out of this bed?" Shimmer asked the doctor after she let go of Swift Write. The doctor looked at his clipboard while Shimmer Shine tapped her hooves impatiently. The doctor let out a sigh.
" Not until tomorrow" He said hesitantly Shimmer Shine's smile darkened. " I am sorry Miss Shine but, we need to monitor you while you are awake. Although, you will be free to roam the hospital for an hour or two and get something to eat!!" he finished
Shimmer let out a huge sigh while rolling her head to the ceiling. " Ok doctor, as long as I get to stretch my wings i am fine" She said and with that the doctor nodded and left the room along with the other nurses. A young filly with a white coat and a red and blue striped curly mane came bouncing in.
" Hey sis!!! Is this our new house guest you were talking about with the doctor??" She asked looking at Swift Write. Her older sister looked at her and furrowed her eye brows.
" Stargazer! It isn't polite to listen in on peoples discussions but, yes." She looked at Shimmer Shine " Shimmer meet my little sister, Stargazer" The little filly bounced around
" Yay!! Somebody to play with me besides Stormy!!!!" Swift gasped while Shimmer Shine sat politely waiting to see some drama happen
" Why do you not like the company of Stormy Symphonic!? The is a wonderful filly and i think she is starting to rub off on you!!" She leaned in by Shimmer " Which is a good thing."
" Hey I heard that!!!" The little offended filly said " Anyways! She is always around her older brothers Splash and Blitz. Plus, she never wants to talk because of how shy she is! She is soooooo boring.." She complained to her older sister. Swift looked at her as if they were having a mind conversation then decided to brush it off.
The next day Shimmer Shine was cleared to go home and as they were walking a young colt ran up to her and hid behind her.
" What the????" She asked. The colt pointed down the hallway to a young mare who was obviously drunk.. She was at a slow trot before she saw him behind Shimmer Shine and came to a halt.
" Why are you hiding behind that confused mare child?! You need to come home with me!!!!!!" She yelled as many police officers were coming around the corner. " Don't you think for a second i wont find you!" She yelled as the colt burst into tears clenching to Shimmer's leg. Shimmer Shine looked at him then at Swift Write and then at him again. She put a hoof under his chin and brought his head up.
" Don't worry. She cant hurt you anymore.." She said softly. He came out from behind her and saw the officers. Shimmer took this time to notice his features. He was a light purple color and he had bright blue eyes. She noticed very slowly that he had bandages wrapped around his head and no tail. Reality struck her and she looked into his eyes. But, before she could say anything a mare came running to him. She was obviously a nurse from the filly and colt ward of the hospital. She stopped and looked at him, he immediately went back to hiding behind his new adult friend. The nurse looked shocked as she looked back and forth between Shimmer Shine and the purple colt. She looked at him with sorrow one last time then grabbed him and started flying away. He squirmed and kicked pleading at Shimmer Shine.
" Don't let her take me!!! No!!!!!! Don't leave me!!!!" Shimmer Shine gasped remembering her mother pleading the very same way. Shimmer Shine looked at Swift Write who was clinging to Stargazer very confused.
"Stay here I will be right back" . She told them. She ran to the nurse and told her to stop but not to let go of him. She leaned up to him. She saw his eyes filled with tears as he smiled. Shimmer Shine's heart broke. This poor colt thought she was taking him home.
" I promise I will come back for you okay??" His smile darkened as she motioned the nurse to take him back. He again started squirming and crying. She stood there until the colt was out of sight. She felt a hoof on her shoulder and was startled to see it was Swift Write.
" Do you know him, Shimmer Shine??" She asked wanting the answer to be yes.
" No" Shimmer answered after a couple of seconds. Swift's eyes got wide.
" Then what was that all about!?"
" I wasn't finished. I don't know him. YET" She said walking to the check out counter. The doctor was in there and he greeted her.
" Ah Shimmer Shine!!!!" He proclaimed " You are free to go but, i wanted you to come back next week on Wednesday for a check up on how you are doing okay??" Shimmer Shine nodded
" Okay doctor!!! See you then!!!" She said looking at the door where the colt went into. Next week she would find that colt and take him with her back to her own place. they were walking out the door when she saw a tiny bracelet sitting on the ground.
" Whats that?" Swift write asked. Shimmer Shine picked it up and when she realized what it what it was she turned and looked back at that door. " Well?" Swift asked impatiently
" It's his bracelet." She said smiling. Stargazer popped out of nowhere jumping.
" Who's bracelet!? She asked excitedly. Shimmer Shine read it in her head and looked at it for a moment.
" Strong Sketch... His name is Strong Sketch"
