All three princesses and Shining Armour are captured and sealed in cocoons, four elements, including AJ and Rarity, marefriend's of Rainbow Dash and Twilight, are killed, and Canterlot has fallen to Changeling rule.

Vinyl Scratch and Octavia Philamacora join a group of rebels consisting of the candy maker Bon Bon, the lyrist Lyra, the claimed dentist with an hourglass cutie mark named Minuette, a former alcoholic suffering from release withdrawal, and the grieving elements of harmony, Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle, as they come up with a plan to escape Canterlot and form an army to take back the fallen capital. And it all starts out with a mad dash out of the city.
