Prologue

~ With in the first few hours of Luna's return.~

The shadow that had once consumed the princess of the night, lingered on in the fragmented remains of her armor. The blast from the elements of harmony, whom she believed disappeared with the alicorn and her sister upon its banishment, had returned and hurt it very badly. Its original plans were to come back exact its revenge, and take over Equestria.

However, that failed.

It thought for a long moment as it recalled the events of that horrific battle. It had watched the new bearers of the elements approaching the castle and it had tried to put up challenges but that did nothing more than prove their worthiness as bearers. Flashes of the defiant purple unicorn and her friends traced through its mind. As its indigo smoke-like body became a small undetectable mass of magical energy, it made its way over to the group of ponies.

Climbing in the saddle bags that bore the familiar symbol it had seen on the purple ones flank, it came up with a new plan to exact revenge. It would watch, and learn, and strike like a silent killer when the time proved right. It felt the bag moving as a magical energy pulsed around it.

The purple one must be getting ready to leave. It thought. It felt the bags come to a rest on the owners back.

“Twilight? Are you coming dear?” a rather high pitched, but seemingly elegant, voice called out.

“Yes, I just had to get my saddle bags.” A voice from right above it called back.

So, that is the purple ones name, well 'Twilight' I will soon make you pay for the mistake you made here tonight. It thought as it suppressed the urge to laugh for fear of being discovered.

The sides of the bag began to move, and settled into a rhythm that it found to be all too familiar, and guessed that the mare that was carrying the bags was now walking back to her home. It was a long ride, and once the bag came to a stop the cloud of indigo smoke quickly moved away before the purple unicorn could discoverer its presence in her saddle bags.

Upon seeing the shelves upon shelves of books that surrounded it, the shadow quickly decided to hide amongst the books so that in its time here it would learn the unicorns habits, as well as what her most important weak spot was, so that the plan to become the silent killer would begin to take its shape.
