Although he didn't admit it, this was his first time leaving Vanhoover. He missed the snow back home that would be up to his neck, unlike here where it's only 3". he looked away from the window and asked the conductor "how long till we get to Ponyville." "I can't be sure do to the snow," he answered with a clueless face. "but we should be there by morning." he put a hand on my shoulder and said "Sorry for the inconvenience, sir." "I don't mind" he said with a fake smile "who can blame you, visibility is about 0." the conductor walked away as he looked out the window his mind he went back to his thoughts I wonder what my brothers doing, I wonder what Ponyville high will be like. maybe I'll make friends here "At least I won't be lonely if I don't make any friends" he said as he looked down at a dog cage with his dog mallow in it. He awoke for real this time in a cold sweat as he looked around to see that celesta's sun has grace the sky with it's fiery glow. He stood up and stretched his arms and legs while releasing a yawn. He grabbed the dog crate and his bags and exited the train ready to start his next 2 month here as part of a student exchange program. He stood there waiting for someone from his exchange family to pick him up. He then noticed a tall, muscular boy, probably a year older then he was, with blonde hair and green eyes walking his way. He thought "who's that?" His question was about to be answered when he was approached by the boy "Are you by any chance caramel?" The boy asked with a smile and a cute farmer accent. Carmel stood there shocked he knew his name and nodded his head. "Well, looks like you'll be living with my family." The boy walked over and offered to help Caramel with his bags and went on there way "so" caramel said sheepishly "what's your name" The boy looked at him and answered back "names Big Macintosh, but you can call me Big Mac" Caramel looked at Big Mac with wonder that he was going to live with this stud for the next 2 months. The rest of the walk was quite silent. They talked about themselves, getting to know more about each other for 2 short minutes and the rest was dead silence. That is until caramel broke the silence. "So" the younger boy asked, " what kind of of family do you have." BIg Mac looked at him with a grin "ah knew you'd ask that" said the boy with his eyes closed. "We'll there's my Granny Smith, you'll think she's the kindest lady in town. then there's my youngest, apple bloom, she's as sweet as a peach. And then we have the twins, apple jack and pink lady, y'all won't see pink lady though she's in vanhoover with your family but y'all probably knew that. As for Apple jack she's a good girl as long as y'all don't lie to her." applejack he thought that name sounds familiar. And what about his parents Caramel looked at him confused wondering about Big Macs parents " you have a big family" he asked "but what about your parents." Big Mac look down with a saddening face, caramel knew he had just crossed a line he should have never crossed. "Sorry, you don't have to answer that one if you don't want to" "Nope, I want to answer it" he said Now sobbing " they died in a fire with my baby brother ,apple buck, and my twin brother, big red, 4 years back. That left my Granny Smith to watch over us and we don't know how long she be around, so that left me to raise Apple bloom, Apple Jack, and Pink Lady all by Myself." Big red stood there and then fell to the ground and full of tears looked up missing his dead loved ones. Caramel felt responsible for this and try to cheer up Big Mac "Come big guy," said caramel with some guilt "it'll be okay. I bet there in a happy place. They may even be looking down on us tight now say ' we raised a pretty damn good son'. "Really." said Caramel in a unconvinced tone "I can prove it when we get to the farm." said the older of the two. after about 15 minutes the made it to the gates to the farm. it was an average farm with a stereotypical red barn, a few animal pens, and a chicken coop. in front of the barn was an elderly looking mare in a rocking chair. I guess the old lady sleeping in the chair is Granny Smith he thought taking a closer look wait is she breathing? he ran as fast as he could to get to where she was. when he go t closer he could hear her snoring. he sighed in relief as Big Mac was running after him "What's wrong caramel. Why were you running." said the older boy "I thought that elderly lady was dead." said caramel "Oh, a lot of folks make that mistake when they first get her and see Granny over here in her chair," Big Macintosh said to calm down the other boy "heck even gave me a scare once" "Really" caramel said surprised Big Mac looked at him and gave him a hardy "eeyup" They walked toward the the barn house. when they got to the screen door caramel heard a voice of a little girl saying "When are they gonna be here" "Hold you're horses" That's when he heard a voice he had heard last winter thats why the name was so familiar he thought apple jack was the name of the girl who was in the exchange last year. they became very close over the two months she was there and became one of his best friends even told her the secret he didn't want people to know. She didn't think any less of him. "I recon any minute now" said the familiar voice Caramel rushed though the screen door and was greeted by a familiar face. His face lite up with joy. "Applejack!" He said with excitement at the sight of the orange skinned girl "Caramel!" She said "it's so good to see you again." She ran up to him and gave him a hug. So you can stay in there for the time being but no funny business" Caramel nodded and said "yes ma'am" Chapter 4: Catching up "So," Apple Jack said "what you been up to in Vanhoover." Caramel looked at his friend as he sat down his suit case on the bed he will be sleeping on for the next few months. "Not much has happened" he said with a hit of saddens . "I came out to the school" he said about to burst in to tears " and nothing is okay. I'm getting beat up all the time and the school board refuses to do any thing about it." Seeing the sadness in his eyes applejack knew she had to comfort her friend. "Oh Caramel," said the Orange mare, "I'm so sorry that happened to you. When did you come out?" He starts crying as he remembers the betrayal he felt when his friends turned on him. "I just don't understand why people are against people like you," Apple jack said to cheer up her friend. Discombobulated he was about to tell off the lavender skinned girl, at least he thought it was a girl. "Watch where you're.." he paused mid-sentence now seeing clearly who had crashed in to him. He aw not a pegasus but an alicorn, the newly crowned princess twilight sparkle. "Your Highness" he shouted. Scared out of his wits he bowed and fear what punishment he would be given for shouting at a princess "There is no need for that. . . Caramel" Twilight said Caramel looked up caught off guard. "You know my name your highness'' he said The princess gave him a smile and nodded. "My friend Applejack told me that you would be staying here while Pink Lady was going through the exchange student program in Vanhoover, and please call me twilight" "That's right you're err .. I mean twilight" the tan colt said still nervous as if all Tartarus was about to brake loose. "Well I must be off, princess luna needs help organizing her royal guard. Can't leave the princess of the night waiting" she said as she took off towards canterlot.
