The Cat Filly
House In The Woods
Load Full StoryThe grandfather clock tick-tocked in rhythm and time marched on. It was quite calming, actually. Accepting the calming feeling, I began to write.
My name is Derpy Hooves. I live alone in this old two-bedroom flat. I rarely go outside.
I paused for a moment remembering what it was like before I moved into this flat, before my coat turned to a darker grey, before my eyes became uncrossed, before I ceased to smile.....before it happened. I shuddered a bit, then proceeded writing.
Some would say it's a lonely life and I guess that's true, but I don't like ponies' company. Not lately, anyway.
I looked up to see Opalescence, a cat that belongs to or belonged to, I don't know, a friend. Or, rather, somepony who used to be a friend. I can't seem to recall her name, but it has been a long time since I've seen her after all. All I know now is that the cats are my only friends.
I only trust my cats these days and I will miss them dearly......but they will understand like they always have...........Opalescence stays with me `till the end. She watches me as if she knew......
She used to be not so nice to ponies, I had thought. So why would she be nice now? Maybe she wanted to save me, to make sure I wouldn't do it. But it was a fruitless attempt.
Because earlier tonight I swallowed a whole bunch of pills. They're legal, of course. Prescribed by my doctor for my sleeping problems.
But I've taken thirty-four of them. All I could find in the cupboard
Please don't get the wrong idea about me. You don't know what I've been through, what has happened. And at the time I was discorded. But don't worry, I know better now.
And now the room spins around me in a blurry tango. I feel calm. I'm ready for it.
I've only got one thing to say now.....
......Thanks for nothing, Goodbye....
And then everything went black.
And then I'm walking in a field of wheat.
It took a few moments for me to realize this, and as you can imagine I was very, very confused. I was supposed to be dead! The wheat was a brilliant yellow, same with the sun. It made me smile a bit seeing the shining so brightly. The sky was a mix between bright blue and orange. It appeared to be dawn.
I began walking again, forward. As I walked the wheat diminished until there was just grass. I soon came upon an old shack. I was drawn to it for some weird reason. I needed to get it open, so I pressed on, more forward! I came upon a city streets of sorts, carriages were crashed everywhere. The world had somehow turned black and white, and I had, too.
"Ooo, L.A. Noire." I commented. I noticed one car was not colorless, it was red.
I noticed a sign and read it aloud.
"No pedestrians allowed, huh?" I questioned.
Ignoring the aforementioned rules I trotted on onto a highway and passed a bus. I paused momentarily after hearing some weird stuff on the overpass. Finally, I found an ambulance and I couldn't go any further. I heard somepony pounding on the ambulance doors. I opened the doors to let the pony out, and out fell me....on a stretcher.
I let out a gasp in surprise. I was dead on the stretcher. I looked so calm.
What's the thing you should do if you just happen to come upon your dead body; play with it of course! Well, I really didn't play with it, I actually just moved the head, er, my head around and stuff. Opening my eyes I saw that, weirdly enough, that they were crossed. After such a long time with my eyes being normal, here they were, crossed. In fact, my coat seemed lighter as well. Now that I think about it, it might have been symbolism. I opened my mouth and there I found a key! I really don't why I did that. I blame symbolism.
Trotting back to the old shack, the overpass calmly decided it was going to kill me, again? It almost collapsed on top of me, luckily I jumped out of the way just in time. Not caring what had caused the overpass to collapse I got the hay back to the old shack faster than you can say "Peppy pony picked a peck of pickled peppers."
I took out the key from under my wings, where I had put it. Oh, and I also scared a deer away. I unlocked the door, stepping inside I realize it was the like the city streets....thing. It was black and white, making me black and white again.
I found a hole covered up with planks. A sign underneath it read: EMERGENCY POWER SWITCH DANGER.
I tried to pull the boards off, but I apparently couldn't pull them off with my bare hooves. My hind legs and teeth didn't work either. I looked through the boards which was very hard to do since the boards were so close together. I decided that there was definitely something in there, I couldn't tell for sure, but it looked like a switch. Next to the board covered hole was a large machine.
Written on the machine was a message that said: 'Too long a sacrifice can make a stone of the heart...'
Would it take another sacrifice to turn it back? I thought. Maybe I'm being silly. This is just some old machinery after all...
I liked the idea of being silly, so I tried to turn it on. Oddly enough, there was no switch to be found.
How do you turn it on? I wondered silently to myself
I decided that there was nothing useful here and left the shack.
I think I know what I gotta do. I mused. I gotta get. That. Deer. So, off I went going back to the direction of the wheat field, in hopes of getting. That. Deer. It turns out that the field of wheat where I head started out in was not there, but instead a forest. But the deer was there, so who cares? I chased the deer through the forest,
When the deer stopped for a moment by a crashed car, I said to it. "C'mon, deers don't drive carriages. Trust me I've seen the wilderness books." The went on chasing.
I don't know how, but I lost the deer. I ended up in a clearing, with a cross in the center and the body of a mare hanging from a tree. I felt bad for whoever 's body that was. I was quite shocked at this sight. I had wished that she was alive, so that I had somepony to talk to. Ironic isn't it? I didn't want to talk to anypony when I was alive, but when I was alone there, that's all I wanted to do. Well, I think that's irony, I never actually looked up the definition.
There was something shiny on her neck and I wanted to fly up there and get it, but unfortunately I couldn't. Let's just say it's because I wanted to do what I did with the pills, but differently. There was also a wall blocking me from go any further, it did have door on it that that would lead me to the next area, but it was locked. Going back to the body I realized I could cut her for her body was suspended by a rope. But I couldn't cut the rope because I had no sharp objects and I couldn't untie knots. I don't know knot classes.
I gave up and made my way back to the forest...but the forest wasn't there. It was a completely different place!
"I can't remember this place," I said aloud. "Am I lost?" Trotting forward, I came upon another forest. I noticed two grave stones and pondered if they were of any use to me. Well, I did until a crow flew out of nowhere and scared the dickens out of me. Feeling upset, I chased the bird, I also chased it because it could've possibly made some good conversation.
After following the crow around a bunch and I found another area where the deer was, and it's limbs were cut off. The body just hung there by strands of string, rotting and being feasted on by flies. I was disgusted by this and felt sorry for the animal, well I was animal too, but the deer wasn't sentient. You get the idea.
"Dear Sweet Celestia...." I mumbled. The crow landed on one of the string that suspended the body in the air. A part of me had a suspicion that the crow did it. I brushed the suspicion aside to mourn the dead non-sentient creature.
"I'm sorry deer, I hardly knew thee." That is the truth after all. Then a thought popped into my head.
Is anypony else here? I suddenly noticed a knife stuck inside the deer's abdomen. I took the knife out of it's body. Again, I don't know why I did that. I blame symbolism again. Symbolism is best scapegoat.
I opened a door that was on the wall. It lead me to the.....area that had the body dangling from the tree and the cross, too!
"Wait that was the other side?" I asked nopony in particular. "Okay I guess that makes sense, but whatever. Time to cut this body down." I never thought that I would ever say that. I did in fact cut the body down and it was the body of me again. I looked closer at the dead me and found out that the shiny thing was actually another key. I gratefully took said key and put it under my wing.
"Bye dead me, I'm going to be a valued member of society now!" I said to my second dead body. "Unlike you..."
I trotted through the various areas that I have already been through, until I came upon a completely new area. An area that was foggy, had a gate, and pierced through the many spikes on the gate were the heads of a cow, a pig, and the deer. I felt a wave of nausea pass through me while looking at them. It made me want to throw up, which is odd because I didn't want to throw up at the sight of the body, but I did with the heads. Weird.
I took out the key from under my and unlocked the locked the gate. I hate to keep saying this, but yeah, I once again blame symbolism. I walked through the now opened gate doors. It lead to yet again another forest.
Great. I thought.
The first thing I saw was a house, much bigger than the shack. It looked just as old and grimy, though. Then, I saw a the figure of a tall pony in a cloak, their muzzle peeking out of it. Their mane was long and literally wavy. Their eyes were bright blue, and like a cats.
"Who in Celestia's mane are you!?!?" I screamed at the top of my lungs.
