The night hung dark and beautiful on this time. Princess Luna really outdid herself. Many stars shone brightly in the sky, though in the center, laid the magnificent white orb known as the moon. But instead of dead silence, a party was held in a certain tree. Or library I should say. Because today was a special day. A day of celebration, and time just continued to flow.
It was finally over. All the ponies left the Golden Oak library. Inside was a mess, but why wouldn't it be? Pinkie Pie always loved throwing parties, and using balloons to decorate the area.
Today truly was a special day. The day where a certain dragon became 15 years of age. A day this special required one heck of a party. And though it was near midnight with Luna's moon high in the sky, only two ponies were left in the library, alone. Well, one pony and one dragon to be specific.

"Wow Twilight, that party was awesome!" Spike yelled in excitement, throwing his arms up while wearing an awesome birthday hat a certain pink party pony gave him. "Pinkie Pie was on fire today. She actually broke her record for pin the tail on the pony, and then, Rainbow Dash actually gulped down all that, mph." The unicorn held a hoof to his mouth, muffling him.
Twilight just giggled. "Alright birthday boy, it's almost time for you to hit the hay." She used her magic to remove hit birthday hat. It was green with lime green dots, Spike's favorite color combination. She wondered why.
"The cake was also delicious." Then he paused, having a question in mind. "So Twilight, now that I'm 15-" Twilight put on a concerned look, wondering what the dragon was about to ask. "Can I watch adult movies now?" He gave her puppy dog eyes, which caused the lavender unicorn to roll her eyes.
"Hm, maybe when you're 16. Then I'll think about it." She prepared her bed, throwing the sheets over the mattress. At the same time, Spike prepared his bed, tucking in the pillow.
After a while, there was a pause. Spike thought in his head. Today felt like the greatest of his life, yet something was missing, or at least it felt like was missing.
"Um, Twilight?" Spike grabbed the unicorn's attention, who looked back at him. "Can I talk to you for a second?"
"Sure Spike." She reassured. "Tell me anything you want."
Spike took a moment to breath, before talking. "Well, now that I'm 15." He paused, making Twilight wonder what he was going to say.
"Yes?" She slightly smiled.
He finally spilled it out. "I've been living with you ponies for my whole life."
Twilight's left eyebrow went up. "Is there a problem with that Spike?" She asked in concern.
Spike shook his head. "No, no, no, no. I love living with you girls. All of you. But I was just thinking." Twilight stayed silent. "I never met my actual parents."
Twilight's ears went down. Both of them sat on their rumps, closer to each other. "Well Spike, you were given to me as an egg. I don't know who your real parents are."
Spike simply sighed. "That's not what I wanted to talk about." He spoke in a distressed tone, giving the unicorn a confused expression.
"If that's not what you wanted to talk about." She started, placing a hoof on his shoulder. "Then what is?"
For a second, they stared into each other's eyes, not making a sound . Until the dragon broke it. "I've been living with these ponies my entire life. But most of the time, it was with you." He referenced to the unicorn.
"Then what's the problem Spike?" She still wasn't sure what he was getting at. "You can tell me. I won't say it to anypony."
The room seemed to get darker. "Well, I've always been writing those letters to Princess Celestia for you, and help do the dishes, and made breakfast. Don't get me wrong, I love doing those things... But."
"But what?" Twilight nearly whispered.
"Are you my boss?" The dragon asked straight forward, leaving the unicorn to think. That was the real question which was so long anticipated.
"Well," she held a hoof to her chin, thinking. It felt like a simple question, but ended up being harder then you'd think. "You are my assistant." She paused. "So I would consider it so." She looked into his eyes, seeing that he wasn't satisfied with the response.
"That's all?" Spike asked quietly, leaving Twilight seem sad, yet a bit timid. "Because I always thought that you were more to me." Twilight just then realized where he was getting at.
Just then, Twilight closed the distance between them, ending it with a tight hug. "Spike." She started, showing off affection. "You're like a son to me, and I will always love you. You understand?"
The dragon started to tear up, as well as the unicorn. "I love you too Twilight." He started hugging even tighter.
After a few seconds, Twilight released the dragon. They just stared at each other, both having teary eyes of happiness.
She nuzzled him, making the tender moment last a bit longer.
"Come on Spike." She started. "Time to get in bed." They shared one final hug, just like a mother and son would, before preparing for the long day ahead.
Hm?.. Like mother and son.
