A Chat With My Mother's Marefriend
Okay, I admit it. I'm a bit overprotective. But, I have a reason to be. They're my family, well, if you want to be technical my adoptive family. But still my family, none the less. I'd lived in an orphanage my entire fifteen years of life, that is, until the Hooves family came along. They'd taken me in and they had hardly even knew me. A few months later and it felt like I'd been in the family my entire life.
There was also an incident with a certain unicorn colt. It happened long before I'd joined the family. Derpy, my mom, had fallen for a colt, a mean, awful, jerky colt that still had the audacity to live in the same town-NO! The same neighborhood of my mother after what he di-.....Um, sorry. I get a bit carried at times. Anyways, The colt, Ponet, was a love interest of my Mom's. Somehow Ponet was stupid enough to not know that Mom had a daughter, my sister, Dinky. After a few dates, my Mom introduced him to Dinky.....and then Ponet promptly dumped her and broke her heart. It was hard on Mom, of course she got her self together so that she could support herself and Dinky, but it really hurt her. Ever since I've heard the story, I made it my mission to make sure my mother, no, my family doesn't get hurt like that again.
And that's what I'm dealing with now. My Mother's fallen for another pony, no, not a colt this time, a mare. Now, I don't have a problem with her loving mares, she's my Mom and I love her no matter what and vise versa. Dinky too, is happy with this situation. No, I don't have any problem with her liking mares, It's the mare she loves I have a problem with! Out of all the fillies in all of Equestria, she just had to fall in love with one of my least favorites!
Rainbow. Dash. Rainbow Dash. Why, Why I ask, did it have to be Rainbow Dash!? Now, I know what you're thinking, yeah, I can read minds, but I don't hate Rainbow Dash. I just, well, in the words of Private Pansy, "I just really, really, really, really, really, really dislike her."
My very much disliking of her started when I was foalsitting Tootsie Flute, Lemon Hearts' little sister. I was preparing a peanut butter n' jelly sandwich, my favorite. Well, I would've preferred eating it straight out of the jar, but it's not the greatest thing to teach a young filly. I was having hard time opening the peanut butter jar, as usual. Then, Rainbow Dash swooped in and said to me, "Let me handle this, mam. For your own safety I must ask you to stand back."
"Oh brother...." I said to Tootsie Flute. Rainbow Dash cricked her neck twice and then proceeded to bite on the jar in an attempt to open it. After she stopped, I levitated the jar to the fountain, banged it on the fountain's surface to loosen the lid, what I normally did after failed attempts at opening peanut butter jars. I then held it up in the air, giving her the chance to open it. She did.
"Tada!" She cheered.
Happy that this was over, I went on making the peanut butter n' jelly sandwiches with Tootsie.
"Uh......thanks." I said.
"How would you describe what I did? Would you say I was amazing?"
"Aren't you milking this a bit?"
"Please answer the question, was I or was I not amazing?"
"Oh you're amazing alright, an amazingly big.." Never did get to finish that sentence. I was going to say that she was an amazingly big pain in the flank.
And now the amazingly big pain in the flank was in my house, being all lovey-dovey to my Mom. I can understand why Mom trusts her, she's just a naturally trusting pony, like my sister. But I could see through Rainbow Dash's façade. In the end, all she wants to do is hurt the family, leave us like Ponet. I thought.
"Sparkler..."
I had this idea where I throw apples at her while she sleeps, it wouldn't really do anything except make me laugh, but still she gets only slightly injured.
"Um, Sparkler, excuse me....."
I'm in quite the pickle, if I somehow get Rainbow Dash to go away, Derpy and Dinky would be hurt, but I if Rainbow Dash leaves us on her own, she'll hurt us even more. That's just the type of pony she is.
"Sparkler!" A high pitched voice startled me out of my chair.
Dinky's head stared down at me filled with worry.
"Oh, sorry Sparkler," She apologized. "I was trying to get your attention and you weren't listening, um, I think, and-"
"It's okay, Dinky, I'm fine." I reassured her. She held out her hoof to pick me up and I took it.
"Um, Sparkler why weren't you listening?" Dinky asked.
"Sorry I was....just thinking." I replied.
"Oh. Okay. Are you going to help me build my fort now?"
Taking one last look at my mom and the amazingly big pain in the flank, I said, "Yes."
We whispered quietly underneath Fort Muffin. Fort Muffin was actually just a couple of books and blocks covered by a blanket, but it was still a great fort.
"Do you hear any monsters yet?" Dinky whispered.
I shook my head, "Not yet." I liked to spend this time with my little sister, to escape from reality where it was just her and me. We a were team then, fighting and exploring whatever Dinky and I wanted.
Fort Muffin was a place to hide from monsters and Dinky and I would go out of the fort one at a time to get her stuffed her and my one stuffed animals or "Survivors."
Suddenly, we heard the sound of a hoof against the floor. Dinky gasped and I put a hoof to her mouth to silence her. More hoofsteps. Dinky looked scared. The hoofsteps were coming closer. I was even a bit anxious. Then something lifted the blanket off Fort Muffin.
"Monster!" Dinky shrieked. Dinky picked up a muffin from the muffin pile that we had stashed inside the fort and threw it at the monster. Bull's-eye.
"Ow." The monster said.
"Mom?" I asked.
"Mommy?" Dinky also asked.
"Yes-in-dee-dee!" Mom replied her face finally coming into view.
"Sorry, Mommy." Dinky apologized.
"It's okay, Little Muffin, no harm done." Mom said, nuzzling my sister. My mother looked down and said, "Ooo, a muffin!" Then scarfed said muffin down. "Thanks."
"So Mom, what did you come here for?" I questioned.
"Oh right!" She said. "I wanted you two to have more bonding time with Dashie. So Dashie wanted to talk with you! One at a time, though."
" Oh. Okie dokie!" Dinky responded.
No no no no nonononono! I screamed silently to myself. That was last thing I wanted to do!
I plastered on the best fake smile I could do and said, "Ga-raaate! Who's going first?"
"Oh, well Dashie said she wanted you to go first, Sparky." My mother replied. "But you don't have to."
"No, no it's fine, mom." I said.
"Okie-doke. She's in the Sitting Room." The Sitting Room is just a room with a fireplace and a bunch of chairs in it where you can just sit around and talk and such. You know, completely different from a Living Room.
I walked slowly to the Sitting Room. I didn't want to do this!
I can't do this! I thought. Must. Abort! MISSION!
I reached the door and slowly opened it with my magic.
"'Sup Sparkler?" Rainbow Dash called out when seeing me.
Shut up. I ESP-messaged her. She didn't seem to get the message.
"Nothing much." I replied.
"Cool." Rainbow Dash responded clopping her hooves together. "So, what do you wanna talk about?"
"I don't wanna talk to you!" I shouted. I then covered my mouth with my hooves, not believing I just said that.
"Oh, oh I see what's going on here."
"What." I deadpanned.
"You're afraid that I'm going to leave Derpy, the family." Dash explained. "That I'm going to leave you, and that everypony else is going to leave you, too. And then you'll be all alone." I was shocked to say the least. How did she know I was scared that everypony that I've grown to know and love, would leave me?
"How did you know that?" I asked
"Because...well I've felt what you feel." Rainbow Dash admitted. "When I was a filly my mom, Firefly, and my dad, Rainbow Blitz, divorced. I stayed with my mom, and I visited my Dad on weekends, but I took this as a warning. If I didn't do what my mom said, if I wasn't a good, cool little filly, if I didn't live up to my mom's expectations, She would leave, too. And then I would have nopony..." Dash trailed off.
"Oh Rainbow Dash, I'm so sorry." I said, and I meant it.
"Hay, it's okay kid." She said back, chuckling a bit. "Heh. Y'know I've done some pretty stupid stuff outta fear. My mom had a pretty big reputation, and she couldn't have a kid with a boring mane color, like, say, white. So she made me..." Rainbow motioned for me to come closer, so I did.
"dye my hair..." She whispered in my ear. I was shocked....again!
"So that's...." This time I was the one that trailed off.
"Eeyup, Pinkie Promise you won't tell anypony?"
I nodded my head. "Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye." I did the motions as well. "Thanks for telling me about that Rainbow Dash, it helped, but I'm sorry. I think it'll take me a while for me to love you, but right now I feel it's okay for me to like you."
"I can live with that." Dash smirked. She extended her foreleg for a brohoof, and I returned it.
I left the Sitting Room with a smile on my face. I was happy that I liked Rainbow Dash. Happy that she understood me.
Too bad I couldn't throw apples at her while she slept. It was a pretty funny plan.........
Okay, maybe just one apple.
