Humanity Service

According to the High Commission of Faust’s Morality Laws, “humanity service” is a form of atonement service in which alicorns (and other pantodynamussienes) serve humans for a period of time (maximum lifetime sentence) as a form of repayment of any punishable crime that has been committed.

The task of humanity service is done in the form of guardianship, such as the dutiful service of companionship (e.g. supporting them at sports) and protective responsibility (e.g. rescuing them from a school bully).

Once, there was a princess, her mane and tail the colours of the aurora borealis, as do her wings and horn, waved like a regal banner, her eyes shimmered amethyst, her skin as white as purity. Adorned on her limbs were horseshoes streaked of faded gold, a pendant as amethyst as her eyes and a car-leather white brooch that covered it, as well as a crown, glinted of gold and the same pendant on it. She ruled a dominion of ponies very much like her, but less, less, less powerful. Immeasurably less, per se. Indescribably. The populace called her, "Celestia", for she had a mark on her flank as the symbol of the Sun, one in which she raised by morning as she rules.

Then, there was another princess. Her form, much like Celestia's, was painted a night denim, her mane and tail coloured like the timeless gaze of the night sky, her eyes as blue as the evening. Her hinds decked with horseshoes of lapis lazuli, she wore a pendant of cloth, bearing her emblem, as well as a smaller crown, dark as night itself. She too ruled the same dominion much like the other young queen as well. The populace called her, "Luna", for she had a mark on her flank in the form of the Moon, one in which she raised by night when she rules.

Such was granted that Celestia ruled the day, and Luna, the night. However, they both felt cheerless during their queenly duties. By day, Celestia was flustered with her royal duties, all from the basis of her own Equestrian laws, stemming from the principles of Faust, that were instructed to how she was to rule. Each day of it she felt nothing but monotony, burden, sorrow. Sometimes she even questioned herself about her destined rule, disquieted by what she could or could not do, as a princess of course. By night, Luna felt alone, for it was such a time that her populace would be sound asleep, only able to meet them in dreams. And nothing more. She only ever saw the night guards in person during her duty, for what is rule when your populace does not feel present at all? Was her rule merely a cruel joke as a night watchmare, to only guard the ponies by night and let it be left at that? Especially so was that the sisters also never saw each other during each rule, except in the transition of the days, for their sleeping form was all they could see of each other.

One day, on the account of a neglectful afternoon, Princess Celestia had failed to notice her beloved pet phoenix, Philomena, had vanished her cage. Unbeknownst to her until much later, the phoenix has taken upon her wrath from solitude, her anger turned into flames that spread like wildfire. Equestria was set ablaze by such wrath uncontrolled, the cries of dying voices filled the air. Eventually, when the empires and republics were reduced to rubble, only then was she able to soothe Philomena's fiery wrath. She was then reprimanded back to her cage, in which is now an enclave to this day.

Word of such happenings also reached the ears of Faust, the Author of Equinekind, reported by other highly creatures of her creation. Outraged, she summoned both the sisters into her wavering hoof, at her Courts. Surrounding her were other pantodynamussienes, the likeness of other creatures with powers just as high as alicorns, seating on high thrones that glistened like gemstones. Whence they appeared, the princesses became frightful, for they know that Faust's summoning meant judgement upon them both.

Princess Celestia and Luna. Your ineptitude has caused great devastation to the Equestrian land! The lives of the many have perished, bringing suffering to the living and set fertile lands to run! This is a heinous crime you've committed. With your fallacies taken into hoof, I declare that your forms be ground to the dust of the Quill, that your existence shall cease as of the instance!

The creatures surrounding the Courts chanted in agreement. In Her midst, Celestia and Luna pleaded with her for mercy, for they were but young rulers at the time. Young rulers, said Celestia, were prone to erroneous ways, and she begged out of the goodness of Her heart to spare her from the toll.

Very well,

Said She.

but no misdeed shall go unpunished from my eyes. From this day forth, I shall take your powers away from you. You shall no longer rule Equestria, until its cities, towns, municipalities and villages are rebuilt from its ashes. Since this incident has proven you could not take responsibility for your own kingdom, you shall have to amend your ways for it. I decree that Princesses Celestia and Luna be sentenced to the form of Humanity Service.

The creatures of the Court murmured in discussion, for such a decree was not usually given. Offenders were given a new role as a guardian, where they are to watch over a human who was to be vulnerable or ailing. Usually a child. Such a sentence, in fact, was comparatively light from what they were to rule. The creatures felt a sense of malfeasance, but did not speak of it, for they trusted in Faust's sense of justice.

And with just a mere flash of Her aura, the princesses were stripped of their ability to raise the Sun, Moon, as well as their right to rule. Both of them looked at each other, distraught and worried. The kingdom, as well as others surrounding the lands, were truly in ruins. The problem was not a fear of the invasions on perverse hands, but that it would take the most of generations to set the kingdom back again. Another issue that raised was, indeed, who will lead their land now? Faust did not say, but merely stated that her protection over Equestria will ensure that the kingdom will rebuild itself.  This worried Celestia and Luna, for its citizens had no destine to rule, nor even the ability, but the princesses did not have much of a choice, and proceeded to prepare for the service.

Secretly, they were told by Faust's servant creatures that they were assigned to separate children. Upon hearing this, they grieved and grieved. For they felt that such a separation for an unknowingly long amount of time was destined, possibly being separated for the rest of their immortal-or-so lives. Throughout their supernal lives they have lived in separation, spending their time alone, not really knowing how close they were until now.

Faust soon summoned the sisters to her Outer Gates, where awaited a door, clear as glass, opening them to their atoning service. They embraced each other softly before they entered the light. Now, they have entered into a world, unlike anything they have ever seen, but was remarkably very much like ours, and, no, it's not like the one in Equestria Girls, just so you know.
