DAFUQ?
The spear missed. Shirei smacked it aside with her unbroken wing and, pushing her body's signals out of her mind, jumped on her unicorn opponent. She managed to pin down his spear with a steel claw, her weapon of choice for the invasion. With her second claw pointed at the enemy, locking him in place, she allowed herself a quick look around.
Canterlot shone under the power of anti-changeling spells.
The changeling felt pain creeping up her body again. If she really wanted to stab the pony, it would be wise to use the other forehoof.
Then again, she began to realize that the pony's death wouldn't change anything.
“We're losing, aren't we,” she tried to say, but her voice was failing her. She lifted a hoof to her throat, which only served to smear blood over the hoof and dirt onto a wound. Taking alicorn magic to the face was no more healthy than the crash-landing and fight that had followed.
The pony below was shaking and staring wide-eyed.
The hive's presence was fading fast. Another fight at this point would certainly be her end. Shirei tried to change into a pony, but the green flames just sparked about randomly, throwing about dirt and smoke. Her beaten opponent took this chance to smack her off-balance and gallop away with astonishing speed.
Off you go, white pony knight. Who had given that kid the spear?
She envied him. There'd be no way out for her, even if she were still able to run.
Pegasi were spreading out from the palace, scouting for changelings in Celestia's sunlight.
Shirei's head felt heavy. She couldn't just keep going and fight her way out. But she couldn't rest right there on the grass either. There was a grove, it lay just a bit ahead. A place to hide. She started trotting towards it, dropping the second claw without giving it much of a thought. Each step was aching and the world spinning.
This was a very bad place to have crashed. There were pony villages and troops, and almost everything lay out in the open. Without disguise, a changeling was easy to spot. She was hurting badly, out of energy, and loosing blood. She kept trying to convince herself that she could work this out once she was hiding in the grove. She would think of a plan, then sneak out at nightfall. The pegasi were stil a good bit away, Celestia would have to lower the sun eventually, and then, she would just need a pony, a source of love…
Slowly, with a heavy heart, Shirei acknowledged that she was trying to fool herself. She was just picking a dignified place to die.
Sharp pain struck her flank. She briefly saw a pony's helmet, then black, then the sky. It seemed her last wish would not be granted.
Goodbye, Equestria, she thought, blinking at the sky. Your clouds are beautiful.
