The Icy North

The screeching of bomb shells rung through the air before a loud explosion, screams of pain and fear woke Celestia from her slumber, or what sleep she could get in these times. She jumped from her bed only to fall down in exhaustion, growling in annoyance she got to her feet. She walked into the halls in her white and golden dress, her castle now lied in ruins. The white hallways had gaping holes in them from bombs that had been falling for the past few weeks, in a nonstop bombardment.

Celestia wondered how they could keep such a feed, but she remembered the enemy they faced. It only had taken four years for the force now facing her to take the rest of the world, the force that overthrew the Dragon Kingdoms with a single well-placed blow. The force who carried weapons of thunder and steel, had the power to create machinery that shouldn't even exist, and then there's him…. their fabled Commander, the Great Conqueror.

Just as his title stated, he had a thirst for power. Unlike many empires she had faced before, it’s leader had a brilliance for war that she in her long lifespan had never seen before. He wielded a magic that even Discord himself would never touch, but even then the times she had met him face-to-face he had a kindness that rivaled the Element of Kindness herself.

Then how did such a young colt become obsessed with power and war, the answer lies in the very beginning.

I put on my olive greatcoat, buttoning up the plastic… well buttons. What? Not all cosplays are expensive, though my aunt did do a great job on the metals. I had tried to get a look closest to Nikolai Moskvinskvin, I had grown a small rough beard and oiled my hair to look messy, though I had my own look to myself.

Putting on my black jackboots that I had to work my ass off on stood in front of a mirror. Everything was in order and I did a few last minute check-ups, once done I was about to make my way outside, until I remembered my cap. Walking over to the hotel rooms queen bed I picked up my hat and put it atop my head. It was to an olive color with an ace card on the right side. I had edited to have the sickle and hammer in gold with a bright red star behind it. It’s red and gold outlines of the card actually shined in the light, it took me near a year to save up for it then make it, well worth it.

What? Can’t a commander have his own unique touch to his uniform?

Walking out of the hotel room I made my way down the white halls with orange and yellow carpet with a pattern to it. Rounding the corner I pressed on the down arrow key of the elevator, only a few seconds later the door opened. Walking in I may have surprised the mother (I think) with her daughter and son. I mean, how could you blame them? A guy with metals, an olive appeal, and a rough beard walks into an elevator looking like he’s ready for war.

Turning to face away from them I placed my hands behind my back stood up straight, playing the part of strict commander. When the elevator arrived at the ground floor I made my way into the lobby where no doubt other cosplayers that had come here for the convention walked around.

Ignoring them, I walked outside and towards the car that I had rented when I got here. Opening the door I sat down in the seat before starting the engine, it roared to life before I backed out of the slot. The journey to the convention only took a few minutes at most, much to my paranoia the streets weren't as busy than I predicted.

Parking in a parking garage I walked the rest of my way, getting a few compliments from fellow cosplayers and random strangers who knew about the convention. I returned the compliments in kind. Finally reaching the convention I looked around seeing all kinds of people dressed up on who they chose to be. And I mean literally, I noticed a few cosplaying as characters from My Little Pony and people in fur suits, but I didn’t care in all the least. If they wanted to dress up like that then let them be, I shall not judge.

I even went as far as to start small chit-chat with a few of them, receiving an evil eye from random cosplayers, which I ignored. After a while I went around browsing the stands, until my eye landed on what looked to be an old Russian pistol, I knew it couldn't be real, it was just a metal replica. It was basic metal except it had the hammer and sickle in the wood.

“So, I seemed to caught your attention?” said the person who doughty runned the stand, he was an old looking man with a white beard and hair wearing a basic brown t-shirt and red pants.

“Da, you have sir.” I said in a Russian accent I had been working on. “Did you make this yourself?”

“I did.” he said simply, standing up he picked up the replica and moved it around in his hands. “I spent sometime making this and the person that had ordered it hasn't shown, so I decided to sell it here to see if I could get a buyer. Maybe you?”

“How much are we talking?” I asked, my eyes locked onto the replica.

“Not much at all, I was going to sell it for $600, but for you I’ll lower it to $200.” he said, and like that I pulled out my wallet.

“You have a deal comrade….?”

“Discord.” It was a strange name to say the least, but I did not judge people by their names or interest.

“You have a deal comrade Discord.” I said before shaking his hand, little did I know I was about to get more than I bargained for. So after my little purchase I put it in a pouch that I had sowed into the greatcoat myself. So here I was, walking around the convention then the left side of my chest started to heat up I ignored it for a while until it started to get annoying. So I pulled it out to see what was going on.

What I saw made my mind freeze, it was glowing, a white color with strange red symbols on it. People around me seem to notice as well, some people looking in awe as some looked in fear. Shacking out of my stunned state II made my way back to the stand where Discord was, when I arrived he seemed to be gone.

By then it glowed with a far more furious aura, I felt weightless before everything seemed to implode. I heard screams of fear and surprise before silence fell, all I could see was white. I felt like someone just threw me into a steaming hot bath with my clothes still on, time seemed to slow to a crawl. Who knows how long I was in that state.

Soon the white haze seem to fade before I was greeted by snow, I was laying on my stomach and whatever energy I had was gone. I laid there for sometime before I slowly lifted myself. The frozen winds blew against me, but they did not bother me. I had grown an immunity to the cold, I actually enjoyed it. I looked around me, to my left was snow and to my right was endless snow.

What in God’s name?’ I asked myself. ‘How the fuck did I get here?
