Sudden Sickness

Soul and Snow awoke at the same time and she gave a sweet and soft smile as she gently kissed his lips. He returned the kiss, then smiled as the events of the previous night came flooding back. After the New Year's party, he and Snow...they'd... Well, that explains why she was in his bed. She then arose from the bed and stretched for a little bit. Afterwards, her eyes suddenly widened as she limp-sprinted towards the bathroom, and slammed the door behind her. Clearly concerned, he listened, he first heard a few retching noises, then nothing. Then light whimpering. He slowly made his way to the door, opened it, and kneeled beside his lover as he held her hair and gently rubbed her back while she up-chucked. What has gotten her into this state? He felt tears starting to form at his eyes. How did this happen so quickly? Yesterday, she was completely fine. He got up and got a glass of water for her to rinse out her mouth. She rinsed, and her breathing became less labored. He gently planted a kiss atop her head as he cradled her in his lap to let her relax.

"You okay?" He finally asked.

"I think so." She replied weakly. Her voice sounded a little delicate as if her voice box and larynx were fragile. They got up and left the bathroom to get back on the bed. He set her down gently, then slid next to her as he held her close.

"Thank you so much. It's been awhile since I was last taken care of as well as you do it." She said softly.

"It's no problem at all. I enjoy your company. A lot. In fact, I've been thinking a lot lately, and I finally came to this decision. Snow, how would like to become my permanent company? Like, move in with me? It's a big step, so if you don't think you're ready, that's fine." He said with a comforting smile as she looked up to face him, and smiled.

"I think that'd be awesome. Considering I have no idea where I live now... I'm not even sure I have a home. So, yes. I would love to bust my ropes here." She replied softly with a grateful smile. She loved Soul, and would give anything to be with him. He knew that he was loved with the words unsaid, and would do anything to make sure her life was worth living. They established their relationship a few months back, and have had a few fights, but other than that they were eternally happy. He still couldn't believe that after 5 months, her legs were still in an unstable condition.

"Hey Soul?" She asked, her voice shaking.

"Yeah?" He replied still cuddling with his lover. He awaited the question when he felt her shaking. Either she was shivering really hard, or...

She was crying.

Realizing this, he instantly hugged her, and stroked her as he let her cry into his shoulder telling her everything was alright. She loved this side of Soul the most. His comfort side. Whenever she needed him, he was always there to assist her. Even in her most melancholic moments...

"I'm sorry. I-I shouldn't be doing this. I mean to say... Thank you. Thank you so much for everything you do for me. Every good deed you've done and will do is added to my mental life debt, things I owe you in return for everything you do." She said, tears still flowing down her face.

"Babe, there's nothing in this world I wouldn't do for you. You don't need to repay me. I promise." He told her as she started to calm down. It was strange, one minute she was calm and happy, the next she's crying trying to express her emotions. Soul ran through illnesses in his head until he reached a certain one. It wasn't an illness, but she had all the symptoms.

Pregnancy.

He couldn't believe it. His girlfriend- who he only knew for 5 months- was possibly conceiving his child. This shock stayed on his mind for a minute. He thought that they should go to an actual medical professional to know for sure. He suggested that they go, but didn't tell her about the possible pregnancy that she could be diagnosed with. She reluctantly agreed, and got properly dressed for the trip. He thought a trip to the doctor might also be good just to make sure her insides weren't damaged after her fall. As they were on their way to the clinic, Snow thought about the past few months. First, her drop-in out of nowhere. Then a slow two months of tender loving care. Then their relationship became official through confessions of both genders. Next, her eighteenth birthday. She never forgot the special soirée the rest of her friends threw for her. After that, it was New Year's... She continued to do this all the way to the clinic.

When they stepped in, he was surprised to see Dr. Stein there as well. Stein instantly recognized him.

"Soul, welcome. And who is this?" He said gesturing to Snow.

"Hi, Stein. This is Snow- Raine Lightran. My girlfriend..." Soul replied. It felt kinda awkward seeing Stein somewhere other than the Academy. Snow silently smiled and waved, not knowing exactly what to think of him.

"She's a shy one, isn't she? Anyway, what brings you here?" Stein said looking puzzled.

"We're here for a...well... I'm not exactly what we need. She was greatly injured after a fall 5 months ago." Soul replied.

"That situation requires an X-Ray for any damaged limbs or blood vessels. Anything else?"

Making sure that Snow wasn't watching, he looked over his shoulder to find her looking at some of the medical tabloids on the tables in the waiting area. He then told Stein the situation.

"This morning, she up-chucked in the bathroom and then felt okay, then she started crying. I started going through illnesses in my head and finally came to the fact that she might be...pregnant. She had all the symptoms, but I decided to come here. You think you can help?" Soul finished with a serious look in his eyes.

"In fact, I can help with both situations. Would you come with me please?" Snow heard that last sentence and followed Soul and Stein to one of the rooms.

"I'll be with you in a minute." Stein said closing the door to the room. Soul found his girlfriend walking around the room taking in the unfamiliar surroundings and dull colors of the walls. He couldn't help but smile. His girl's curiosity was always getting to her. She walked around for another minute or so before finally sitting down in a chair next to Soul. He put an arm around her as they waited. A few minutes of awkward silence until Snow broke it.

"I don't know about you, but I think these chairs are a little small..." She said trying to adjust her body to fit on the small chair.

"They do seem smaller than the ones at the house, don't they?" He chuckled lightly.

Another minute or so later, Stein came in with a small computer and a clipboard. He started asking questions about her and checked her pulse and whatnot, but soon after the basic questioning and the X-Ray, he asked a questioned that caught Snow off guard.

"I need to run a quick test. Would you mind doing a quick shot?" He asked her. Looking at the needle, seeing that it was somewhat dull, she decided to just say 'yes' and get it done and over with. Stein then lifted her sleeve and rubbed some oily liquid on her skin. The liquid was cold, and it instantly numbed the spot it was rubbed on. Soul held her hand knowing her fear of pain. Stein injected the syringe into her skin making her flinch a little. As soon as he had a reasonable amount of blood in the syringe, he took it out of her skin and left the room once again shutting the door behind him, but not before putting a wrap-bandage on the now bloody spot on her arm.

"That wasn't so bad was it?" Soul asked with his lovable soft smile. They talked for a little while before Stein entered the room again.

"Let me start by saying that you do not have any fractured or broken important bones or blood vessels. My second piece of news... Congratulations you two! You have a child on the way." Stein said smiling softly. Snow was startled for a split second before she spoke.

"You mean... I'm pregnant?..." Snow inquired a little nervously.

"Yes."

Her eyes widened as her mouth broke into a smile. She jumped up from her seat and hugged Soul tightly. He returned the embrace as Stein smiled at the scene.

"Can you believe this, Soul!? We're gonna be parents! Isn't that great?" She said, clearly excited. Soul smiled as well, and slowly nodded showing his agreement. Stein then gave them pamphlets and papers about what to expect during these nine months fore coming. He then congratulated them again and sent them on their way.

They finally got home and plopped on the couch and turned on the TV. Soul then brought a hand to his newly expecting girlfriend's belly and rubbed it awaiting the arrival of their new child.
