Chapter two: hunting

Previous Chapter

Iana's pov.

Fresh tracks. Deer most likely. Thats the only thing big enough for us to hunt way out here. Though, the occassional elk would pass through, but not enough to feed a family. Following the tracks,  i tried to think, to think about how i was going to appologize to her. It wasnt right, juet saying, it wasnt the right time. I was so stupid for thinking she would take me seriously... shaking my head, i looked to the deer path again.

They went north, towards the beer tooth mountains. Mama said said never to go there, unless we were hungry, or desperate for food. She would never tell me why, though. I stopwalking and take in my soroundings. I can hear a creak, probably from the mountain, not too far from where i am. So i dont have worry about water, and hopefully theres fish too. I can feel a warm breeze makes its way through the trees, warming my scales. The leaves made a soft rustling noise, sounding crisp.

I loved going hunting, just being outside, away from... others. It was... i cant describe it. Its like, im stuck in a box, all the time. And, im not allowed outside the box until i need to hunt. Then, the box opens nd im free, just free. Closing my eyes, i listen intently to the sounds of the forest. A squirral scurries along the branches behind me. A few rabits bound through the leaves, probably racing, they do that a lot. The gentle hum of the hummingbirds as they drink from the tulips by the stream.

Though, one sound stands out above the rest; the soft crunch of hoofsteps on the grass. Turning my head to the noise, i draw an arrow and get ready to strike. But, something feels off about this. Normally, i would just aim and shoot, but something is keeping me from letting the arrow fly.

Something feels... wrong about this. Opening my eyes, i see before me the mare i confessed my love to. Her face in pure terror, staring at the tip of my arrow.

"A-aria!" I lower my bow and set the arrow back in my quiver. "W-what do you think your doing here?" She rubs her arm and looks down, her mane falling down her shoulders. "I heard you lived out here and... i wanted to see you to appologize..."

"I-i dont follow... appologize for what?" I put my bow in my quiver and watched her movements. She was scared and nervous, but she wanted to say something. I knew she didnt feel like talking, but she wanted to try at least to make it up to me.

"I am so sorry about earlier... i didnt know you meant what you said... im so sorry i laughed at you." I walked up to her and embraced her tightly, showing how much she means to me.

"Dont worry about it... i was a fool for not explaining my effections poperly..." as i hugged her, i felt her slowly hug back, her hands warm and inviting on my scales. She makes me feel happy... like im with someone i can really trust and come to love. Pulling back a little, i looked in her eyes before leaning in and locking our lips in a kiss.

I felt her hesitance before fully accepting it.
