Chapter One – My New Home
I stared out of the window of the train carrying me away from Canterlot to my new Ponyville home. I wasn't really looking at anything, just letting the scenery race by as most ponies do on the train, as we puffed into a tunnel I looked my reflection.
My Colombia blue coat, longish silver hair with its little attempts at black, my tail being the same colours if not a little long and girly compared to some other stallions and finally my horn all made me look like any other pony, what set me apart from the crowd were two things, the first being my eyes; the left being baby blue, the right being amber not unlike finely aged whiskey.
The second was the scar running down from just above the top of my left eye and down, finishing at my jawline, nopony but me knew how it had been obtained and nopony would ever find out that little tragic secret of mine. I was snapped out of my little self analysis by a little filly's voice “excuse me mister, is there room for me and my mama, everywhere else is full?”
I turned my head to see a blonde blue grey filly with her mother “yes you and your ma can join me, I’m travelling alone, but I warn you, I'm not very talkative” I said to to the two of them, I saw the filly open her mouth, before her mother put her hoof over it to stop one of the prying questions that only a filly can ask, her question more than likely being about my scar
“That’s very kind of you to let us join you on your journey” said the larger pony ushering her filly into the window seat across from mine and sitting down herself with a great sigh of relief. She turned and whispered something into her filly's ear so that I couldn't hear what was being said, the filly nodded before staring out the window much like I was, as by now we where back outside. As the journey went on I tuned out the now talking filly, let my eyelids close and the trains rocking lull me into slumber
I awoke as the train came into Ponyville's station with the driver informing the passengers that the train terminated here. I stood up and noticed that the filly and her mother and gone,
“Well they must have been travelling elsewhere” I thought and pushed the thought out of my mind as I gathered up my saddlebags, trotted out of the carriage and off the train into a clear autumn day, I stopped just before the main street, using my magic I fished out a map from my saddlebags and opened it up.
After some scanning I found my new home and sighed when I saw that the quickest way there was though the madness that I guessed was the town's main street and market. I was just about to set off when I felt a impact fairly near to me, before I had time to turn to see if somepony had fallen over, a pegasus bowled into me & took me right off my hoofs. After some tumbling we stopped in a cloud of dust.
As I was on the bottom I opened my eyes and saw the same blue coloured coat as me but with one difference; this pony's mane spanned all the colours of the rainbow, this pony jumped off me and held out a hoof to help me up
Once I had pulled myself up & gathered up my things she apologised with a tomboyish chuckle
“Sorry, new trick. Its not quite working yet” she turned away before I could reply and readied her wings.
Just as she went to fly off she turned back towards me “Hang on a sec there, I've not seen you around here before”
I replied quietly, looking away from her “I’m sorry I’ve just moved here from Canterlot”
“Well hey there, names Rainbow Dash”
“I’m Temujin Rain” I managed to somehow squeak out, wishing that the ground would just swallow me up
“Its good to meet ya Temujin, you know what, you remind me of one of my friends. Maybe I should introduce the two of you?” me response was to shake my head
“I’m sorry but I’d rather just get to my house and start unpacking” I said, praying that she would leave me alone
“Okay then, say...do you want me to show you the way there”
I thought about it for a moment. I wanted to get home and be alone but having her show me the way might be quicker as hopefully nopony else would try to talk/crash into me & I wouldn't get lost
“that would be nice” I stated simply
“okay then, where are we going” I passed her the map. “so your the pony who bought the house by library, come on lets go” and she trotted off & I not knowing the way, trotted after her
after an uneventful trot though the main street we arrived at what looked to be a hollowed out tree
“Well here we are” stated Rainbow
“what the tree” I replied
“no that's the library & where Twilight lives with Spike, its the house on the left that's yours”
I studied the house to left of the tree, it was like any number of the houses in Ponyville, with a timber outer-frame, a thatched roof & a overhanging 2nd floor. The walls were a colour one would describe as buttercream. All in all it; another pony might have said that it was bland but for a stallion how didn't want to stand out like myself. It was the perfect home. I turned to speak with Rainbow Dash and saw her engaged in conversation with a purple mare. Spying my chance to disappear into my new home & start unpacking without any more distractions, I magicked the key out of my saddlebags. I had just put the key into the lock when I heard a shout, I turned to see rainbow, the purple unicorn and a small dragon.
“hey, you think you'd get away without introducing yourself to your new neighbours” said Rainbow
I shook my head “no” I replied, and pawed the ground
“I'm Twilight Sparkle, what’s your name”
“um, I'm Temujin Rain” I replied softly and wishing for a second time that the ground would just swallow me up
“he's seems really shy” said the small dragon
“Spike, don't be rude, we've only just met him, remember what I was like when I first moved here” Twilight replied
“ I suppose”
“well I’ll let you go to unpack” with that the three of them walked off into the library. I breathed a sigh of relief I went into my new home
“lights 75%” I ordered as I closed the front door. At my command the lights came up to reveal the ground floor. I sighed at the mountain of boxes on and around my workbench. I walked over and check the labels to make sure that none of my personal items where mixed in with my tools.
After a quick scan I began the long process of unpacking my work tools so that I could begin practising my talent; creating things from wood and metal. The first things that I took out from the boxes were the two things that my cutie mark displayed, a pencil & a roll of solder. These and the rest of my tools where placed on my workbench or hung on the wall holders depending on how often I needed them.
After unpacking the boxes with my tools, I turned to the one box left downstairs labelled 'music'
I slit the packing tape with my Stanley knife and opened the box. Inside was what most ponies would call a gramophone however this one was different, it used vinyl for show as the real player was inside the oak base. I magicked it up onto the lower part of my workbench and put a small gem into the base, after some spin up time the opening melody of re-CODA played. I sat and listened for a time before turning the gramophone off and trumping upstairs to my living area and more boxes.
After unpacking the rest of my things in the living area save for one box I headed to the bedroom with the idea of sleeping. As I stepped in I saw that the painters had done precisely what I had asked for, the bottom half of each wall was painted as one of the 4 seasons; albeit in the cutesy way you expect in a foal's room. The top was painted in a more adult manner being a light airy blue.
I sigh for what was the umpteenth time that day when I saw my unassembled bed lent against the wall depicting winter, I turned and recovered the tools I needed to assemble it, muttering “why did I not do this first” as I did so
after about half an hour I looked at my handiwork. The fully assembled bed stood in the centre of the room. I gave my bed the once over to make sure it hadn't sustained any damage in the trip over. Its pine construction had taken on no extra damage that I hadn't put on it years before during my time teething 18 years beforehand on the headboards that I took from my old cot to in someway remind me of where I came from, as my wall clock struck 10pm a thought “well that’s all my unpacking to do apart from one box” that box sat on the floor of my bedroom with the label 'My Foal Things' for the last time I ripped of the packing tape and dived into the box with the intent of getting a few things.
After a few moments I had everything I wanted, my footed jammies that looked like the wondotbolt's uniform, my blue pacifier, its rainbow coloured keeper & my Spitfire plush. I pulled on my jammies, attached my pacifier & keeper to them and crawled into bed. I pulled the side-rails up with magic and covered myself with a comforter that no grown stallion should be seen with unless he has a young filly or foal as the characters of the show Doc Mcstuffins smiled on the cover. I closed my eyes and after some time drifted off to sleep ending my first day in my new home
