Magic Duel: Sword in the Stone Style
All the ponies in Ponyville gathered in the town square to witness the rematch between Twilight Sparkle, and the Great and Powerful Trixie. The two unicorns sized each other up for the duel, snorting and hoofing the ground.
"These are the rules." said Trixie.
"Any rules you want." replied Twilight.
"Rules my hoof." Rarity burst out. "You only want to make rules so you can break them."
"I'll deal with you later you mediocre cloth sewer."
Rarity, offended tried to have a go at Trixie, but Rainbow and Fluttershy held her back.
"We shall duel by transforming into different animals." She got close to Twilight's face. "And the winner will be the one animal who overcomes the other."
Twilight knew some transformation spells, but hadn't tried it that much on animals. None the less, she maintained confidence in her abilities.
"No problem..."
"This is the second rule." Trixie cut off. "Only animals. No crazy ones like dragons or three headed dogs."
"Got it."
"And no disappearing." Trixie finished.
Spike whispered to Twilight.
"You've never done animal transformations before. What are you going to do?"
"I don't know. I'll think on my hooves."
"Alright then. Shall we commence."
"Lets."
They approached each other in a wild west showdown style.
"Now turnaround and take ten paces." said Trixie.
"Oh, now she wants form." said Rarity watching with the others.
Twilight and Trixie both turned around and paced away from each other. Trixie counted off.
"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine..."
But while she was counting Trixie lit up her horn and began to change. Her body plumped up. She grew claws, sharp teeth, and a long snout.
"Twilight! Twilight!" called Applejack. "She's changin."
"What! That wasn't ten pa..."
Twilight turned around and saw Trixie right in front of her, only she had transformed into a bear.
"What's the matter Twilight? Can't bear the pressure?"
Twilight gulped at the huge bear in front of her. Trixie roared and Twilight galloped away with the Trixie bear on her tail.
"Twilight!" Called Rainbow Dash hovering in the air. "Change! Change!"
Twilight ran round the square trying to avoid Trixie.
"Into what? What can outwit a bear?"
Trixie appeared in front of Twilight, swiping at her with her clawed paw. Twilight galloped in the opposite direction.
"I don't know! Be something! Be anything!" Rainbow shouted.
Suddenly, Twilight got an idea.
"I've got it."
She lit up her horn and concentrated. Insect wings sprouted from her back. Her tail straightened and sprung into a stinger. Black stripes popped up on her body. Her eyes popped one by one into compound eyes, and she shrunk down into a bee.
"My mother always told me, bee yourself."
Twilight buzzed around Trixie's head. The bear growled and swiped at the bee.
"Go Twilight." Shouted Spike with excitement.
Twilight buzzed away from the reach of Trixie's paws and aimed her stinger at the bear's face.
"Mess with my friends Trixie, and you'll get such a sting."
Twilight buzzed straight down and stung Trixie right on the nose.
"OUCH!!!!!" Trixie growled holding her swollen nose with her paws. "That hurt!!"
The other ponies cheered Twilight at her quick thinking.
"Good thinkin Twilight."
"Hmph." Twilight smirked. "Looks like we'll bee seeing you Trixie."
The Trixie bear glowed with an aura around it
"Not a chance." She snorted and suddenly vanished.
"Hey!" Spike shouted. "No disappearing." Applejack stepped on his tail to hold him back.
Twilight buzzed around the square looking for Trixie.
"Now where did she go. She couldn't have..."
Twilight flew into a spider's web suspended from the post and railing of the town hall.
"Girls! Help! I'm stuck."
The ponies and Spike all watched her in the spider web. Twilight tried to buzz away but she was good and stuck in the web. The spider appeared and approached Twilight. It had Trixie's cutie mark on its abdomen.
"Well, well, well." Trixie laughed. "Seems this duel is all wrapped up."
The spider crawled closer licking its fangs with its pedipalps. Twilight thinking fast transformed into a frog. She smiled and gave the Trixie spider a croak. Trixie screamed and ran away as fast as her eight legs would carry her. Twilight hopped her way down to the grass following the spider. She stuck her tongue at Trixie trying to catch her.
"Now Twilight lets be reasonable." said the spider nervously.
"You made the rules Trixie." Twilight croaked. She stuck her tongue again. Trixie found a hole in the ground and hid down inside. Twilight hopped to the hole looked down.The ponies cheered at what looked like Trixie retreating in defeat.
"You did it Twilight." said Spike. "You gave Trixie what for."
"Wow." Twilight croaked. "I never thought of an animal magic duel being so, hairy."
As everypony laughed at Twilight's joke, a hiss came from the hole and Trixie slithered out as a cobra. She hissed her forked tongue and bared her fangs at the purple frog.
"Sssssstand back Twilight."
Twilight's eyes shrank at the site of the snake. She tried to hop away, but Trixie slithered her way in front of her. The snake snatched Twilight head first in its mouth. Twilight's frog legs dangled from Trixie's mouth as she tried to swallow her down whole. The ponies held there breath. Twilight looked done for. Luckily, she knew all about frog defense.
"You forgot one thing about frogs Trixie. They can be hard to swallow."
Twilight puffed herself up big and round, too big for Trixie to swallow, and she oozed a sticky white goo from her skin which tasted awful. Trixie, overwhelmed by Twilight's size and the terrible taste in her mouth spat the frog out. The goo from Twilight's skin not only tasted bad, it glued Trixie's mouth shut. She couldn't open it.
"Hey, that's not fair." Said Trixie muffled by her stuck jaws.
"You should have read my book about animal defense."
Twilight shook off the snake spit, and transformed into a mongoose. She pounced on Trixie and wrestled the blue serpent to the ground.
"Go Twilight." said Rarity. "You give that snake what she deserves."
Twilight got her clawed hands around Trixie's serpent head, but Trixie was one step ahead of her. She sprouted splaid legs, and a long scaly snout with sharp teeth. Twilight looked back and saw she was holding onto the snout of large crocodile. Trixie grinned a toothy grin and beamed her crocodile eyes at mongoose Twilight. She snapped her jaws at Twilight trying to catch and eat her. Luckily for Twilight, as a mongoose she was quick to getaway from Trixie. She ran into a hollow hole at the base of a tree. Trixie stuck her snout in the hole to find her.
"Ouch!" Trixie pulled her snout out of the tree, it was covered in sharp quills.
Twilight emerged from the tree as a porcupine. The Mane Six cheered her on.
"Oooh." said Trixie frustrated. "Quills can't save you this time Twilight."
Trixie changed into a fisher, one of a porcupine's only predators. She chased Twilight around the square until Twilight transformed into a skunk. She raised her striped tail at Trixie threatening to spray her. Trixie transformed into a hawk. Screaming a hawk scream, Trixie grabbed Twilight in her talons and took off into the sky.
"Twilight!' The other ponies watched in fear as Trixie carried Twilight high into the sky.
"This will give you the slip." Twilight changed into a fish with slippery slimey skin. She slipped right out of Trixie's grip. Twilight plummeted down to Ponyville. Trixie flew back down to the ground directly under Twilight and changed into a pelican.
"Don't get fishy with me Twilight." She opened her bill wide ready to eat Twilight. Twilight gasped as she was falling into Trixie's mouth.
"Twilight! Hurry!" called Fluttershy. "Change! Something big! Something heavy!"
"Heavy. Alright, I'll show you heavy."
Twilight blew up into a hippopotamus. Trixie screamed at the huge heavy bulk hurtling toward. Twilight hit the ground squashing Trixie under her enormous weight.
"Trixie? Are you alright?"
The ponies cheered and laughed. Spike laughed the most.
"That was great!"
The ground underneath hippo Twilight trembled. Twilight looked around nervously.
"Hey! What's going on?" From underneath the hippo, Trixie blew herself up into a rhinoceros, spiking Twilight in her fat hippo butt with her sharp horn.
"I'm more than alright. I'm bigger than you."
"Not anymore you're not." hippo Twilight snapped back.
Twilight glowed and changed. A trunk grew out of her face. Tusks grew out of her mouth. She ballooned into a large elephant. The crowd looked back at Trixie. She also transformed into a elephant.
"One elephant to another. I always say."
The blue and lavender pachyderms trumpeted and charged each other, locking tusks and trunks in a brawl. The crowd of ponies cleared the square as the elephants fought. Twilight and Trixie pushed their huge heads against one another.
"Well, well." Said Trixie. "Seems were in a stalemate Twilight. There's nothing an elephant is afraid of."
"Actually Trixie, there is."
Twilight transformed into a mouse, and made a funny face at Trixie.
"Boo."
Trixie trumpeted in horror and ran away. Twilight chased after her.
"Imagine." Twilight laughed. "A huge elephant afraid of a little..."
Trixie changed into a cat and purred at Twilight. Twilight broke the fourth wall with a look of dread.
"Oh no."
Trixie hissed and chased Twilight across the town square. Trixie stopped chasing and began running the other way. Twilight changed into a dog, and barked the Trixie cat all the way up a tree. Trixie hissed and threw her claws at the dog from high up in the tree. Twilight barked at her.
"Had enough Trixie?"
"If I said yes," Trixie replied while her body began to change. "I'd be...LION!"
Trixie transformed into a ferocious lion. She jumped down from the tree and roared at the crowd of ponies. Ponies covered their eyes, to afraid to look at the big cat. The Trixie lion chased the dog Twilight. Trixie roared and swiped her paws at Twilight. Twilight ran into the town hall and shut the door, causing Trixie to run flat into it.
"Oooh, what a headache." Trixie roared.
Twilight, now a woodpecker hopped out of the window of town hall and flew around the lion, still reeling from crashing head first into a door.
"Yes you are Trixie," said Twilight. "With your pompous boasting and your selfish putdowns. You're a real headache to us."
Twilight landed on top of Trixie's head and pecked her really fast with her beak. Trixie roared in pain and frustration. The ponies cringed.
"Oooh. Woodpecker Pecked."
The lion hit Twilight with its paws sending her flying into the ground. Trixie held her head in her paws. Twilight got up and brushed herself off.
"Alright Trixie. Enough is enough."
Twilight's woodpecker body glowed, and transformed part by part into large bull. Two sharp horns popped out of her head. Trixie shuttered in fear at the large tough bull.
"Bully Ponyville, Bully for you Trixie."
Twilight lowered her horns scraped the ground, ready to charge.
"Twilight! You wouldn't dare!"
Twilight snorted and charged Trixie, chasing the frightened lion straight into the stream running trough the town. Trixie dove into the water and was gone. Twilight dipped her head into the water to find her.
"Trixie?" Twilight gargled under the surface.
The ponies cheered thinking Trixie had finally been defeated. The Mane Six gathered round Twilight, still in her bull form.
"Darling, that was amazing." said Rarity. "I've never seen any unicorn do that."
"By the way Twilight," said Rainbow Dash. "You make a great bull."
The ponies all laughed together, not noticing a fin cutting through the surface of the stream.
"Well hopefully after this," said Twilight, "Trixie has finally learned her lesson and won't go bullying Ponyville anymore, and..."
She noticed her friends getting scared and backing away from the stream.
"What's the matter?" asked bull Twilight.
The fin was circling behind Twilight, getting closer.
"L..l...look behind you Twilight." Applejack quivered.
Twilight turned around to see Trixie emerge from the stream as a shark.
"Doesn't she know when to quit?" screamed Rainbow.
Trixie grabbed Twilight by her hind legs. Twilight struggled to stay onshore, but Trixie pulled her underwater. The ponies hurried to the stream's edge.
"Twilight!" cried Fluttershy.
The water was calm and there was no sign of her. Suddenly the Trixie shark emerged from the water thrashing around. Twilight, now a gorilla was on top of the shark, pulling on its snout.
"It's over Trixie." said Twilight. "We can't keep fighting like this."
"It's not over till I've won." Trixie growled, and she began to change again.
Sharp spiny scales came out of her back. Four more heads sprouted from her neck, and the necks grew long and longer. Wings spread out from her side, and Trixie grew into an huge five headed, fire-breathing hydra. Smoke and flames seeped from the noses and mouths of Trixie's five heads. Twilight fell to the ground, aghast at the monster Trixie had become.
"You said no crazy animals."
"No," Trixie smoked all five heads talking together. "I said no dragons or three headed dogs. I didn't say anything about fire-breathing hydras. DID I!?!?!"
"That cheater!" screamed Applejack.
The heads all took a deep breath and belched out a huge plume of flames. The hydra lifted itself out of the stream with its huge wings. The ponies and Twilight ran back toward the town hall. Trixie belched more fire, burning the hall to the ground. She then swooped down and caught Twilight in her huge claws.
"I've done it! I've done it!" she cried. "The Great and Powerful Trixie is the most powerful unicorn in Equestria!"
The Mane Six watched as the giant hydra cheered. Tears came to their eyes.
"Oh no," cried Fluttershy. "Twilight."
Trixie landed on the ground, holding Twilight in her clasped hands. She changed back into her normal unicorn self.
"Now let's see you out of Ponyville for good."
She opened her hooves, but Twilight wasn't there. Trixie looked around for her.
"She's gone!" said Spike.
"What happened to her?" said Rarity
"Where are you at Twilight." Trixie shouted. "You'd never break the rules of a duel."
"You're right Trixie, and I didn't break the rules."
Twilight's voice could be heard, but she was nowhere to be found.
"Twilight?" said Rainbow Dash. "Where did you go?"
"Don't worry girls." said Twilight's voice. "I'm still here, and I'm not invisible. I'm just very very small. Teeny tiny. So small you'd need a microscope to see me. I'm a micro-organism."
The Mane Six were amazed at Twilight's cleverness.
"And the best part is...I've won the duel."
"Won the duel!?!" Trixie laughed. "Ha! Don't make me laugh. How can a micro-organism defeat the Great and Powerful Trixie?!"
"Ever caught a cold, Trixie?" Twilight asked innocently.
Trixie's eyes widened with dread.
"Oooh, this will be good." Rainbow sneered.
Trixie trembled nervously.
"Not only am I micro-organism, I'm the worst kind. I am a virus, and I carry a rare but terrible disease. Acute Magichornalitis. And...YOU JUST CAUGHT IT!"
"What!?" Trixie shouted.
The ponies and Spiked grinned with glee as to what was about to happen to Trixie.
"The first symptom of the disease," Twilight continued. "You will turn pale."
Trixie turned very pale and sick like.
"Then you will come down a high fever and will sweat."
Trixie started to sweat profusely.
"Next I give you a sore throat."
Trixie's held her neck as her throat became inflamed.
"And nausea."
Trixie hiccuped and puffed out her cheeks as if about to throw up.
"And whooziness."
Her eyes rolled and she felt very dizzy.
"And bad flatulence."
Trixie farted a big fart. The ponies laughed as she dizzily blushed in embarrassment.
"I just threw that one in for laughs." Twilight giggled.
"Oh, come on." Trixie said now feeling very ill. "Is that the worst you can do."
"Oh no." Twilight taunted. "I'm just getting started. Soon you will break out in spots all over."
Red spots popped up all over Trixie's body, from her head and face down to her hooves.
"These spots itch."
Trixie started scratching them.
"And scratching only makes it worse."
Trixie started to scratch harder, but the itching was becoming unbearable.
"Will you leave my body alone now?" Trixie whimpered.
"Yes. I will."
Trixie sighed with relief that the illness Twilight was creating was almost over.
"But I'm not done yet."
"What more." Trixie teared up.
"Now you'll have body aches."
Trixie's body started to ache and she could barely stand up.
"And glands in your cheeks will swell up."
Trixie's cheeks swelled up.
"You'll be fevered, and chilled to the bone."
Trixie shivered with horrible chills.
"And last but certainly not least, watery eyes..."
Trixie's eyes watered up.
"A stuffy nose..."
Her nose became stuffy.
"And coughing and sneezing."
She began sneezing and coughing terribly. The ponies in the square cheered at Twilight's victory. Trixie shouted in rage.
"OH Twilight you thief! You imbecile! You purple nightmare! You, you...you..."
"You win."
Trixie collapsed to ground in tears. She felt so horrible she could barely move. She sneezed really hard. Twilight appeared in a flash of magic back in her unicorn form. The ponies gathered around her cheering.
"Twilight! Twilight! Twilight! Twilight!"
The other Mane Six came up to her and gave her a big hug.
"You did it Twilight. We knew you could."
"Thanks everypony." Said Twilight.
She turned to Trixie who was curled up on the ground coughing, shivering, and covered in spots.
"Lets get this sick pony to bed."
Twilight levitated Trixie up with her magic and carried her into the EverFree Forest. The other Mane Six followed her.
Trixie was wrapped up in a bed in Zecora's hut with a thermometer and a hot water bottle on her head. Twilight pulled the thermometer out of her mouth with her magic.
"It's not that bad Trixie. You'll be your Great and Powerful self in a few days, but until then you must remain in bed."
"And hopefully you'll be a wiser pony then too."
Trixie nodded as she sneezed and blew her nose.
"The Great and Powerful Trixie will certainly be the Sadder and Wiser Trixie."
She sneezed again and moaned.
"And don't worry, Zecora will look after you until you get well. She knows lots of remedies for illnesses. Right Zecora?"
Zecora nodded in agreement. The six ponies and dragon left the hut to go back to Ponyville. Zecora approached Trixie carrying a bowl of soup.
"Here we are Trixie, a soup just for you. With daisies, and carrots, and radishes too."
Trixie gulped. She hated radishes.
The Mane Six arrived back in Ponyville.
"You were great Twilight." said Rainbow Dash. "How did you know to do that virus thing? That was in-genius."
"Something my dad said when I had pony pox, 'Respect the power of the very very small."
The stood in the town square among the smoldering ruins of the town hall.
"Let's get to work," said Twilight. "We have a lot of work to do before the Princess arrives with the delegates from Saddle Arabia.
"Do you think Trixie has learned her lesson?" Fluttershy asked.
"Oh I think she'll remember this for a long long time." Twilight answered.
Author's Note
Magic Duel is one of my favorite pony episodes.
I wanted to do a comical twist on the final duel between Twilight and Trixie, and thought of the duel in Sword in the Stone.
I came up with the animals by researching different animal predators. I tried to use original animals as much as possible, rather than the same ones as SITS.
You may notice Pinkie Pie doesn't speak in this story. She still doesn't have her mouth back.
