Prologue
The order came at midnight. Princess Twilight would see Fluttershy, no other. The night guards led Fluttershy to a dark hall leading up to a tower. How cold she thought to herself Almost like Twilight lives in a grave... Fluttershy shook her head. It would not do to scare herself to death. She finally reached the solid-looking wood door. Two knocks, and the sound of dead bolts being unlocked came from the other side. The room was dark and the balcony doors were open. Fluttershy stepped out and looked at the stars. "N-nice night, huh?" she asked. Twilight said nothing. "Twilight?" Twilight sucked in a shuddering breath, she seemed to be bracing herself for what she was about to say. "Do you... Do you ever wish... You were gone? Fluttershy, I don't know how much more I can take..." Fluttershy was beginning to get a bad feeling. "W-what do you mean?" Twilight sighed " Ever since Celestia and Luna died..." Fluttershy flinched at the word. "... I just don't know who I am anymore..." Fluttershy walked closer and wrapped her in a hug. "Twilight, you're our friend!" Tears dripped onto Fluttershy's shoulder. "There's just to much... The rebellion..." Fluttershy's heart jumped into her throat. "W-what?" "Yes..." she murmured "The rebellion...The princesses' greatest secret..." Fluttershy shivered down to her very wing tips The princesses' greatest secret? They never kept secrets from us, right? Twilight seemed to be talking to herself "So much... So much to do... People to please... Crush the rebellion... Just as Celestia said... Execute them... Celestia" The air started to feel like ice. It seemed to Fluttershy that the ice crept right down her throat and surrounded her very heart. "T-Twilight... y-you're s-scaring m-m-me..." Something inher voice seemed to pull Twilight out of her trance. She turned slowly and faced her butter-yellow friend. "I am sorry..."
When the morning guard did his rounds he found them both broken on the ground, Fluttershy's mouth open in a silent scream.
