Prologue: The Great War

If I'm going to tell you about my adventure -- how I made a new family, and what I experienced on my journey -- I should probably start by explaining The Great War.

The Great War was a decades-long militarized conflict between two global superpowers, the pony nation of Equestria and an unnamed zebra nation with whom it shared a border. This war lasted multiple years and forced Equestria into a rushed industrial revolution as the two superpowers raced to outdo each other in the fields of arcane science, industry, and wartime technology.

One of these developments, the megaspell framework for amplifying the power of spells, was powerful enough that its use led to the destruction of much of Equestria.

I was born in a stable along with my sister Ace, I got a job as a guard, as well as a mechanic and Beth got a job as a medic. We lived in that place for years until it finally opened. We were both horrified at what Equestria had become.

Over the years our dad joined the groups the Overmare sent out to look for supplies. It was pretty exciting if I do say so myself. During those days he explored caves and tunnels, were he found old stuff from the war. Beth was always excited to see these, thinking they could give us info about the war which they did. It's getting time to go check on the generators, I better get going.
