A Potion and a Party

Twilight sat hunched over a chemistry table that she had set up in her chambers a few weeks ago. She had recently taken to potion making as a hobby to tide her over between saving Equestria and when her royal duties called her away from her home and her friends.

She had been called away at  the beginning of the month to help with the planning for the annual Hearths Warming Ball that took place in Canterlot every year. The event had been held every year on Hearths Warming Eve since before she was born but had lost its popularity as the populace of Canterlot and its surrounding cities slowly began to lose interest in dancing.

Celestia had called upon her to help set up the biggest and best Hearths Warming Ball in the history of, well, forever. And even though she didn’t enjoy dance any better than a crazy school filly who forgot to take her medicine that morning, she was still expected to make the ball amazing. And she had delivered.

Today was Hearths Warming Eve and the Ball egan in about an hour, but Twilight had other plans. She gently tipped a bit of bright pink base into a flask of violently bubbling purple a slight darker than her mane. As the base came in contact with it, the other liquid began to cool and become still. She waited a moment until the liquid turned to a deep shade of brown and was about room temperature before pouring it into a smaller vial and corking it. She giggled quietly to herself and set the vial down in the holder on the table.

“That’ll knock her horse shoes off.” Twilight said to herself. She giggled slightly thinking of her plan again. When she had first come to Canterlot to to help the planning, her and Lna had begun a prank war to entertain themselves and eachother. It had started with Luna placing a whoopie cushion in Twilights chair that she was using for an interview for the Equestria Times to Luna’s toilet erupting in flames after a late night movie. And it was Twilight’s turn to be declared winner, and that love potion she had just completed would see to that.

It was an imitation of the pheromone a mare gave off when she went into heat to attract a stallion. And Twilight had made it potent enough to be smelled from down the hall. She could just imagine Luna being swarmed with stallions trying to get lucky, and at a public dance no less. She would probably encounter the wrath of Celestia afterwards but she wasn’t worried. It’s not like she could banish her to the moon or anything like that, right.

Twilight shook her head to rid herself of those thoughts. ‘Now is not the time for that Twilight, now is the time to get ready.’ She thought to herself as she looked up at the clock and saw there was less than thirty minutes to the dance. Twilight picked up the dress and walked into the bathroom to get dressed. She could already hear the stallions of the guard slow down slightly as they walked past her room and she wanted her privacy.

Twenty Five Minutes Later

Twilight looked at herself in the mirror, astonished by how good she looked. Rarity had really outdone herself this time. It wasn’t a crazy over the top dress, but it did look beautiful. A deep shade of blue that complimented her coat with shimmering silver stripes that seemed to flow as she moved, probably enchanted, all tied off with a single small sapphire set in silver on a chair around her neck. She giggled with excitement at the sight of her in the dress. Even though she generally  didn’t care about her appearance, she didn’t mind dressing up every once in a while.

She did a quick check of herself in the mirror one last time before stepping out of the bathroom. She quickly walked over to the chemistry table and picked up the vial and hid it in one of the folds of her dress. She checked herself over in the mirror one last time just to make sure everything was as it should be before opening up her door and walking out into the hallway.

The hallway was empty of stallions which was probably a good thing. THe potion was potent enough to be smelled through the cork. Or at least she guessed it was, mares couldn’t detect the pheromone. She heard the sound of music coming from down the hall and quickened her pace to a slow canter.

Two guards stood at the door to the party. When Twilight walked by them they both began to blush heavily and seemed to scrunch a bit deeper into their armor. Twilight wonked at one of them, making him blush even more before pushing the door open and stepping into the party.

Behind the doors the night was lit up gold by light reflecting from the decorations she had helped set up that morning. Bright gold streamers hung in the air suspended by tree limbs and some had been attached to the walls of the courtyard. Large candles floated around in the air a few hoof spans above her head casting a shimmering orange glow onto the decor and the guests. Many of them had crowded together in the center and were talking to each other, everyone except the princesses. They sat at the back of the courtyard in small golden chairs watching the ponies before them. Twilight began to make her way over to them when she saw an empty throne next to Luna which she assumed was for her.

As she trotted past the congregation of ponies she heard snatches of conversation regarding the party. THe only thing she heard that wasn’t praise was one pony saying that the air was too cold to be having a party this late at night. And of course as she trotted past several stallions turned their heads in her direction and looked her over. One stallion in particular eyed her with a certain hunger that was slightly off putting, but she ignored him and kept walking.

“Hello Sparkle.” Luna said as Twilight approached them. “Nice dress.” She said looking her up and down. “Come, have a drink.” Luna said pouring some wine into a glass and offering it to her.

“Oh no thank you, I don’t drink.” Twilight said sitting down in the empty throne.

“What are you talking about you don’t drink!” Princess Celestia said looking to Twilight. Her eyes were half closed and her movements were more sluggish. She was quite obviously drunk.

“And that’s enough for you, sister.” Luna said picking up Celestia’s glass of dark wine and pouring it into the bushes.

“Ferkin’ berch.” Celestia said slurring her words though the meaning still came across perfectly.

“Sorry about her, she’s a bitch when she’s drunk.” Luna whispered to Twilight.

“Call mer a berch one more time and i’ll send yer ass back to the mern.” Celestia said turning back to the two of them. Luna sunk back into her throne and sipped her wine.

About fifteen minutes later Luna was on her second glass of wine and her eyelids were starting to droop as if she was getting tired. Twilight saw her chance and picked up the tube full of the pheromone with her magic and uncorked it. The cork rubbing on the glass let out a slight squeak but Luna didn’t notice it. Twilight levitated the tube just over Luna’s back and tipped it slightly. The liquid slowly trickled onto the back of Luna’s dark colored dress. It’s dark color not visible on the dark fabric.

Just as the last of it finished trickling out of the vial luna stood up. Twilight quickly chucked the glass into the bushes where Luna had poured Celestia’s wine. It shattered against the ground but with nearly no sound.

I’m going to go stretch my legs Sparkle, keep an eye on her please.” Luna said pointing with her horn to her sister who had fallen asleep and was snoring obnoxiously loud. Twilight nodded and Luna trotted out towards the crowd.

Twilight grinned a devious grin as many stallion’s heads already began to turn in Luna’s direction, and Luna noticed to. Though she only thought it was because she was a princess. One stallion managed his way out of the crowd and began trotting over to meet Luna. He was a tall grey stallion with a darker grey mane and crisp blue eyes.

Good evening princess, might I say you look simply marvelous.” He said as he came within earshot of her. Luna blushed slightly and kept walking. THe stallion nodded to himself disappointed and stepped back into the crowd. Twilight barely managed to suppress a laugh at the sight.

Soon after, another stallion flew up out of the group and landed next to her. This one was dark blue with a blond mane that was slicked back.

“Hey sweetheart.” He said putting his wing around the princess. Across the yard the guards tensed up and tightened their hooves around their weapons. Luna shoved the stallion away and took a step back from him.

“C’mon baby, don’t be like that.” He said giving her a quick kiss on the cheek. She could smell the alcohol on his breath and slapped him across the face. In less than a second the guards were at her side, their spears raised. But even they couldn’t take their eyes off of her. The crowd of stallions began getting closer and closer to Luna. some of them were being held back by their respective mares but others were unhindered, single, and ready to mingle. One of the guards even had loosened the grip on his spear and had gotten a bit too close to be just protective and had moved into personal.

Suddenly, one stallion from the crowd jumped out and made a dash for Luna but was stopped by the shaft of a spear to his forehead. And that was enough for the stallions. They broke out into a frenzy, all of them going for Luna. Their morals and good judgment had been tossed aside by their instincts and lust. Without wasting a second, Luna took to the sky and managed to escape the crowd and made for the castle doors. None of the stallions even seemed to notice except for the guard ponies who were slamming the buts of their spearheads into any stallion that dared to come too close. Though they didn’t notice that Luna was gone and just rushed for the spot where she had been.

Twilight watched wide eyed from the other side of the courtyard. Luna burst into the castle doors and quickly slammed them behind her and disappeared.

“Oh my what a mess.” She said to herself looking back to the crowd of stallions who were tripping over themselves to try and get at where Luna had been. Twilight didn’t look forward to explaining to the royal sister about what had happened, or the revenge that would come from this. But for now she could relish in her victory. She  poured some of the red wine into a glass and took a sip from it. The sweet liquid ran over her tongue and down her throat. She hummed in pleasant surprise at the taste.

“Not bad.” She said taking another sip. She giggled quietly at the thought of Luna cowering in her room. “Check.” She whispered to herself before draining the wine from the glass and pouring herself another.
