Surprise Letter From the Heart
It was the middle of the night, 12:06. Rain hammered down onto the roof of Rainbow Dash’s cloud home. The soothing noise that usually soothed Rainbow did little on a night like this. Rainbow Dash lay face down, her head tilted slightly so she wouldn’t suffocate in her pillow. Her rose eyes fell outside of her window, and on Luna’s beautiful night sky. She sighed, her breaths shakey. She couldn’t sleep, she had been laying there for hours trying to get rest for later on in the day… For Pinkie Pie’s birthday party. She was sure to miss it if she didn’t get the proper amount of rest. However, Rainbow Dash- Try as she might, couldn’t get to sleep, and it was all because of her, that cursed, Pink bouncing pony. That infuriating, exhausting, adorable, kind, caring, sweet, terrible pony.
Rainbow Dash loved that pony.
Recently, Rainbow had started having vivid dreams of Pinkie, some included Dash herself, others just contained Pinkie. Sometimes, Pinkie would spout words of affection, other times, she would be cuddled up with Dash, on a cloud, by a fire… Anywhere. Heck, one time they were even on a big cookie, but sometimes dreams were funny like that. Rainbow Dash’s mind raced with fond memories of her beloved friend. How their personality’s complimented each other perfectly, the jokes they shared, how happy they have made each other… They made each other so happy, and that happiness all lead up to the current pain in Dash’s heart.
Throughout the years, Pinkie Pie taught Rainbow that she never had to act cool all of the time, and to share her feelings, even the deepest ones, that way, if Dash ever needed help, Pinkie would be there… But still, Rainbow Dash couldn't stand the thought of telling Pinkie Pie that she was in love with her, what if it costed them their friendship? Rainbow Dash has never had a friend like Pinkie Pie, and she learned over time, that when a ‘friend’ says you can tell them anything, they don’t mean ANYTHING. Oh, how Rainbow Dash wished she had known that sooner… Maybe she would still have those past friends. Because of the harsh memories from her high school years, Rainbow Dash always held the nagging fear that she would say something wrong, and lose a friend… There wasn’t much Pinkie Pie could do to change it.
Rainbow Dash, who had laid motionless for the past two hours, started crying, fresh tears streaking down her cheeks to replace the old streaks. She moved her hooves up to her eyes and used them to try to keep the tears in, but it didn’t work.
“What is my problem..? Why… Why am I feeling this way? I love her, why does it HURT so much!” She thought to herself, being fed up with the pain. “I shouldn’t be having these feelings for my FRIEND. She’s JUST my friend, she’s… Just my friend…” She began sobbing loudly for a few moments. She let her emotions take over her, and with a slam of her hoof, she pushed herself up effortlessly, and began slamming her hoof into her pillow, violently punching it, letting all of the pain and rage flow through her, getting less, and less violent after each punch. “THIS. ISN’T FAIR!!!” She screamed, outloud. It was times like these Rainbow loved living alone. She hurled herself off to one side of the bed, and slid off, nealrly falling, but landing on all four hooves. She stood there, panting. Did she really just throw a tantrum like that…? Oh well, it was for the best.
Slowly, she walked over to the window, and stood on her hind legs, holding herself up by placing her front hooves on the window sill, and looking out. The rain had let up, and it was now bairely drizzling outside, the clouds became thinner, and she could see Luna’s sky more clearly now. She sighed once more, shaking her head. “It’s time to grow up…” She thought, and glanced over at the desk beside her window, it had paper, and a lot of pens on it. Rainbow...Wasn’t really organized.
Her ears twitched as an idea sprung forth into her head, and she smiled weakly. Sliding off of the window sill, she slowly made her way to her desk chair, and lazily plopped herself into it. She scooted some item’s to the bath of the desk lazily, and pulled a piece of paper in front of her. She picked up her favorite pen- A wonderbolt pen that Fleetfoot had used to sign autographs once.She gripped it tightly in her teeth, and thought. Rainbow Dash was actually a very good writer, so the words soon start to flow onto the paper. As some would guess, Rainbow Dash had terrible mouth-writing, right? Wrong. Rainbow had- Although not fancy, unique and clean writing.
Dear, Pinkie Pie. Happy birthday! I hope you had, and still are having, a very wonderful day! I'm Sorry I could only afford you two gifts' this year, the wonderbolt academy drained my savings account. But, there is something I've wanted to tell you for a while now. It's been bothering me that you don't know, and you know how I always like to hide my emotions. The last time we hung out, was the best day ever. And it made me realize something. So I guess I'll start from the beginning;
When we first met, I thought you were the most annoying pony in ALL of Equestria. But you know what? I was wrong. The more we hung out, the more I realized what a unique, and wonderful pony you are! You've taught me so much, made me feel better when I was upset, or mad, or doubtful. Your constant optimism makes me smile just thinking about it! You're a beautiful mare with a great sense of humor, and come up with THE. BEST. PRANKS, EVER! But really, you and me are like two sides of the same coin, we go together like Cake and icing. Like butter on toast, And like Day and Night. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that I'm in with love you, Pinkie Pie.You’re the mare of my dreams, and someone who I trust with all my heart. I'm sorry I couldn't come up with the courage to tell you in person, I know this is probably a little childish, and a teeny, tiny bit uncool. But.. I guess I'm scared. I understand if you don't feel the same way, I just needed to make sure that you know, and how you feel, too. You're an amazing friend, Pinkie, just please...Don't hate me for this.

She re-read her note, again, and again. She let out a relieved sigh, and neatly folded the paper. She made sure to keep the note short, sweet, and to the point. Nothing fancy, but it doesn’t matter how ‘fancy’ something is as long as you get your point across, and she knew that. She opened her desk drawer, and pulled out an envelope, placing the note inside, and sealing it with her tongue, leaving an unpleasant taste on it. She gagged a bit and sat the letter down, scribbling ‘To Pinkie Pie’ on it. He then spat her pen out, and flopped back in her chair, staring at the letter in front of her. Would this work…? She told herself yes, for comfort. She then turned her self sideways, and slid out of the chair, walking to her bed, this time at a normal pace. She slid right under the covers, and with a few pillows being switched around. Rainbow Dash finally fell into a deep, much needed sleep.
