There I was, standing on a hill laughing at the pony that lived at the bottom. The pony was a green mare who lived on the edge of Everfree, my home. I am a fox and I know my way around it. I am clever as that is why my name is so. I didn't pick it. I loved torturing little ponies, you know messing with them. Knocking over trash cans, mocking them, messing with their gardens, it brought me joy. My favourite mare to mess with was Clover. She was a simple gardener. Which made it all the more fun to mess it up. Most foxes can't talk, but I have been blessed with speech.
I'm almost blessed with being immortal but that's a whole other thing. Since I am unaffected by age my family has passed on and my friends, too. The only one I call 'pal' is an odd zebra in the woods. Most wouldn't believe it but she shares my gift. Which is why I am not afraid to lose her, my only companion. I also like bugging with this mare named Fluttershy, but she's been gone a lot lately, maybe she's actually got some friends besides her animals.
Anyways I had just messed up Clover's garden for the tenth time this week, and it was only Wednesday. I was having a good laugh as I loved her reaction of how sh would freak out. "Grrr! You annoying creature, stay in those woods!" Clover yelled at me from her position at the bottom of the hill.
I only laughed more. "What? All I did was improve your tulips." I replied with a chuckle. "Improve? You chewed them to shreds!" She yelled. Which only made me laugh more.
"They were ugly anyways." I said shrugging it off. It looked like she could blow. "You better not come back, or I'll get you trapped." She threatened. I rolled my eyes. She's tried many times to catch me. She fails every time. "Yeah right, just like the time you said that last week, and the week before, and the week before." I went on.
She gritted her teeth. "I swear one more time and I'll show you what happens when you push a mare to far." She yelled. I swiped my paw at her direction. "Try me." I teased.
She just yelled as loud as she could at me and walked to her house and slammed the door. I fell on the ground and laughed out loud. I loved that reaction. The best is when they cry, you know how soft these ponies are? Fluttershy just sits there bawling half the time while her little bunny comes around. But I'v learned not to mess with that apple mare... she bucks hard...
I got up after ending my little laughing fit. I then remembered I was suppose to meet Zecora for a little get together. I turned and started heading to her hut. She was a pretty good friend, sometimes she rhymes to much although I finally got her to stop rhyming around me. It took like two years!
She says it keeps her focused, I personally don't care. We think different about living forever, she wants to help out I just like messing about. Maybe I'll change when the magic starts taking off more. Anyways I was finally in view of her little hut. I don't even bother knocking I just hop in through the window, yeah, I'm that agile. You got to stay fit.
"Yo, stripes." I said making up a nick name, I call her something different every time I see her. She turned to see. 'Ah, welcome my little friend." I cut her off before she says anything. "No rhyming crap." I order. She rolls her eyes but agrees.
"I'v heard you've done another misdeed." She confronts. I can't hide anything from her for two seconds. I sit on the side of her cauldron. "So?" I shrug.
She glares at me. "I'v told you many times. You have to stop harming the ponies. I look around the room and then to her. "Harm is such a strong word. More like torment." I corrected. She just turned to me.
"No matter how you word it. You have to stop, you were not given this gift of forever life to abuse it." She reminded. "Given, we didn't have a choice." I reminded as I got up and confronted her.
''Didn't we?" I thought back to the night it happened. I was just a little pup, and Zecora was just a zebra foal. We were pretty good friends, but then one night we were kidnapped and brought to a hut in the woods where a crazy hermit lived. He deprived of us of food and water for days and finally made us drink a potion. The potion that changed our lives forever.
I call it a blessing, Zecora calls it a curse. Ever since she has been searching for a cure. She's become a master of brewery. Me, i'm a master of stealth. For years I helped her, stealing from the ponies trying to find a way out. But we were trapped. I eventually gave up, but she has been working at it ever since.
"No we didn't Zecora. We would have starved without drinking it!" I reminded. "Ah, but we chose to live, then to die." I guess she was right.
She finally turned to me after she was working on something. She put a bottle of some solution in my paws. "Drink this." She ordered.
"Yeah right. Last time I drank something you gave me I was a girl for a week." I said, remembering the weird time I had. She chuckled.
"You must drink it up. For your own good." She said. I sat there stubbornly. "Fine, it turns you into a pony." She admitted. "Ha! Why do you want me to drink it?" I asked.
"So you can learn a lesson, a lesson about what your doing. You will be fox by night...pony by day." She explained. I thought for a moment. I'm more of a risk taker, you know. I have tons of time to live, sometimes, learning a lesson may not be bad.
'Alright, but after I drink this you can't ever bug me about bugging the ponies." I said. She nodded. "Say it." I ordered.
"Fine. Clever, I promise I won't ever bug you about bugging ponies." She promised. She got annoying with that. I sloshed the drink around in the glass.
"Wait, what about butt tattoos?" I asked referring to cutie marks. "Whatever one you think of will appear." She explained.
"Awesome." With that I chugged it down. I was kind of excited what I would look like. After a few minuted I realized nothing happened. "Wow, what a bunch of-*" And I was out like a light.
