A shrill cry rang in the old dragon's frail ears. It carried through the halls as it grew louder and louder with each waking moment. The cry was the cry of a young colt, who was only a foal, as the bright strikes of lightning struck past his bedroom window. But the great storm was not the cause, it was lonelyness. Another flash of lightning flew through the skies as the old dragon finally decided to attend to the screaming infant. The wooden floorboards creaked beneath his wieght as he past the rooms of young dragons who were suprisingly sound asleep. He loud a sigh as he finally entered the foal's room, who was still actively crying his eyes out.

“Will you be quiet for once?” He groaned. “Flare, get in here!”

Fast thumping footsteps went through the halls as a young, yellow scaled female dragon entered the room. Her long orange hair was a mess as she rubbed her tired eyes

“What is it, Sensei?” Flare asked, her sensei rolled his eyes and pointed toward the screaming foal. Flare exhaled as she took him out of his weaved basket bed and into her arms.

“Take care of him, please?” And with that he left Flare all alone with the screaming baby to take of all on her own. This was not a situation she was new to. On many occasions she was left alone to take care of him when every other older dragon was too lazy take of him. She often worried he thought she was his real mother.

“Oh, don't mind him,” she soothed. As if she used magic the foal's loud screams soon faded to weak whimpers. Flare put on a satisfactory smile as she began to gentily rock him in her arms.

“Well we know one thing,” she said, “you sure have strong lungs.” This for sure was a fact well known. For many nights the foal had woken up screaming and when they decided to ignore it, the cries for asssistance only grew louder. After what felt like hours the foal had fell a deep sleep and made everything fall into a much wanted flat silence that surrounded Flare like a blanket.  Flare carefully set the baby back in the basket and as she left the foal yawned and stretched out its dragon wings and tail one last time before turning over.
