"What part of '℞' don't you understand?"
"Bon Bon..."
At the end of the day, what the earth mare favored was comfort; she lived simply, with few effects save her cookware. Cooking and wandering around town made up the bulk of her days off; the few times she could be found at home was when a new tray of sweets was coming out of the oven. Or, as in this case, when she was soaked up to her shoulders in lukewarm bathwater, rose bath salts infusing her skin and fur.
"Bon Bon?"
Bon Bon closed her eyes, and kicked her hindlegs a little, feeling the resultant currents tugging her tail this way and that. A hot soak was bliss. At times like this, she could just let the bath take her few cares away, able to completely lose herself in the moment; the bills were paid, the work was light, and the wife was happy...
"Bon Bon!"
Speaking of, the wife's voice was getting rather loud. There was now a knocking at the door. Funny, Lyra wasn't usually this insistent... but Bon Bon was so zoned out of it she couldn't be bothered to actually get out of the tub. "Door's unlocked," Bon Bon cooed in a tone that was just above conversational, as she went to tug the curtains closed.
A hoof stopped her. Lyra Heartstrings, Bon Bon's wife of two years and girlfriend of sixteen, was looking at her with a mixture of confusion and fear. "Bon Bon," she panted, "We need to talk."
"What is it, Lyra?"
Lyra, despite her prior fear, clammed up, her face scrunching up tightly. "Er, that is..."
Bon Bon pouted at having been interrupted from her soak, and frowned towards her wife. "Lyra."
"I... suppose, hypothetically, you had left candy out, and suppose, again hypothetically, that a very nibbly little filly came along and helped herself to some strawberry saltwater taffy..."
"Lyra!"
The unicorn squeaked, and shrunk in on herself with a chagrined grimace. "I didn't mean to take them all they tasted so good!"
"Well, I bet you've ruined your dinner," Bon Bon chided, frowning a little. "Wait a minute. Strawberry saltwater taffy?"
"... yeah?"
"I haven't made saltwater taffy in months. Lyra... did those taffy pieces come in a box?"
"... hypothetically, yes."
"And were they individually sealed in foil?"
"... potentially?"
"And when have I ever bought candy, Lyra?"
"Never-" Lyra reared up in shock, and covered her hooves with her mouth. "Bon Bon! Does that mean... you've gone mass market?"
"No, Lyra!" Bon Bon sighed in exasperation. "It means you were digging around in my medicine!"
"Medicine? So that wasn't candy?"
"... no, Lyra."
"But they tasted so good!"
"Well, you have to get them down somehow... wait," Bon Bon said, squinting suspiciously. "'They'?"
Lyra's sheepish grin was ruined by a drop of sweat.
"Lyra... how many did you have?"
"Uhm..." Lyra looked over her shoulder, and thought, scratching behind the ears. "Uh... like six?"
"Oh, Lyra," Bon Bon whined, sitting up. "A prescription's for one tablet a week..."
"Prescription? Bon Bon... is something wrong?"
Now it was Bon Bon's turn to look chagrined. "Ah..."
"What did I take, Bon Bon? Is it poison?" Lyra reared up and gasped. "Am I going to die?"
"I... well, it's not poison," Bon Bon admitting, raising a hoof behind her head. "I... well, Lyra, I've been visiting the fertility clinic."
"A fertility clinic?" Lyra asked, the idea unfamliar. "What could you have been doing there?"
Bon Bon gave Lyra a flat look.
"Wait a minute..." Lyra looked at Bon Bon, then jumped in close in realization. "Bon Bon, are you going to have a baby?"
"That was the plan," Bon Bon muttered.
"Oh, awesome! " Lyra crowed, beaming. "Who with?"
The silence between them stretched, Bon Bon unamused and Lyra quite bemused.
"Lyra," Bon Bon said carefully, her eyes looking down Lyra's flanks pointedly, "You might have noticed some changes to your anatomy since you stole my prescription..."
"Wait... do you mean..."
Lyra looked down between her hips to match Bon Bon's gaze, then lifted her head to face her girlfriend, sheepishly. "Ah... yeah, I knew there was a reason I ran in here..."
Bon Bon sighed. "This isn't how I thought this conversation would go..."
Lyra giggled. "Come on, Bon Bon. When have I ever been good at... you know... being serious, or stuff?"
"Never..."
Lyra leaned in, and gave Bon Bon a nuzzle. "But you never told me this was something you were thinking about." Although her face didn't fall, Bon Bon could see by the squint in her wife's eyes that she was hurt. "When did you... decide on all this?"
"Well... a week or so ago, at the club... I saw that impromptu gig you did for those kids. And... well," Bon admitted sheepishly, "I went to the doctor the next day. I was waiting for the right time to broach the subject, but... you've been so busy..."
"Bon Bon," Lyra chided, "Did you stop to think that maybe, just a little, that our future together and where it goes might rate a mention? At the very least, a 'Oh, hey Lyra, don't eat those squisy candy-colored things, they'll give you a dick?'"
Bon Bon averted her gaze and cringed. For a moment, there was silence, until Lyra leaned in close... and blew a raspberry right on her wife's neck, to which the surprised earth pony squeaked. With a triumphant laugh, Lyra pinned the stronger mare to the ground and blew raspberries all over her neck, until Bon Bon was little more than a giggling wreck.
"So. Kids." Lyra nuzzled Bon Bon while she waited for her to catch her breath, resting atop her.
"Yeah. There's white pills, to promote impregnability..."
"... and I guess the red taffy enables all-natural insemination, then," Lyra concluded. She tilted her head. "So were the red ones for me...?"
"Actually," Bon Bon coughed sheepishly, "I was hoping to take those. I thought you would..." Bon Bon rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly. "... fare better."
"Aaaw. But I'm sure you would be beautiful," Lyra insisted, sneaking a little kiss to Bon Bon's cheek. "After all," she grinned, her hooves gently hugging. "I totally could see myself knocking you up..."
Lyra couldn't take back the words, and blushed. They met each other's glance. "Like... for real?"
"C'mon, Bon Bon, you know we can now... thanks to you." She smirked, and nuzzled. "Besides. We'd be great moms. And we'd be great together."
Bon Bon's blush was quickly kissed away, and they rolled apart.
"You know, Lyra..."
"Yeah?"
"Let's... let's have dinner first. The... the white pill would need its time to work. But if we... if we feel the same after dinner..." Bon Bon looked up to Lyra, hope in her eyes.
"Could we start tonight?"
