A True Home

A standing window

Previous Chapter

The next day I woke up before Fluttershy. She was cuddled into my chest, using me as a pillow. The way the light that was in the room gave her a glow that light up the room. She was so cute it almost hurt to watch her sleep. Almost felt like I could stay there forever, but there was a loud crake of thunder that woke her up. She blinked her eyes to get the sleep out of her eyes.

“Good morning, Fluttershy.” I said while stretching.

“Oh, good morning. How long have you been awake?” she asked with a blush, just know realizing that she was using me as a pillow.

“A couple minutes.” I smiled. I was a little concerned about what was happening outside. Where there was thunder, there was normally rain. I doubt Fluttershy will let me leave if it starts to rain hard enough. Fluttershy got off of me, much to my displeasure. She walk down the stairs leaving me alone in her room. I got up and stretched my back muscles, hearing several pops along my spine.

On the side of the room, there was a window. Outside, there were grey clouds that completely blocked out the sky. There were also several ponies that were moving clouds to further create a blanket of clouds. I sighed, already seeing that we were in for a heavy rain.

I walked down the stairs to find that Fluttershy was in the kitchen. She had carrots and other vegies set out, and putting the ones she cut up into and pot that was on a stove. There was a sofa that looked comfortable in the main room. I walked over to it and sat down. I sat in an upright position, much like a human would. Old habits die hard I guess. I corrected this mistake by lying down onto all fours.

Fluttershy started humming a song in the kitchen while I just sat on the sofa and thought. Yesterday I was ready to kill that dragon, and now I’m just laying here as if nothing happened. I was never a violent person back home, so what caused all that anger I felt. I felt completely normal until he attacked my friends. I wasn’t even upset when he tried to kill me and Sparky. It only surfaced when he knocked Fluttershy out.

That was it then. I got mad when he hurt Fluttershy. But why not the others, didn’t I care for them too? Of course I did, just not as much. I had this connection with Fluttershy that I haven’t had in a long time. I felt happy around her, but the others rarely made me smile.

I was still thinking about why Fluttershy was different than the others when a bowl of soup was placed on the table in front of me. I looked over at Fluttershy to see she was looking at me silently. What was it about her?

Well she is really cute. I approve of her.

Stan, I don’t have time for your games. Why don’t you just go away for a while?

A bolt of lightning flashed outside, followed by a thundering boom. I looked over to the window to see a curtain of water covering the window. Flashes of light on the other side gave the only indication that it wasn’t a water fall.

As I stared out the window, I felt as if something was calling to me. It was odd, I hated the rain, but I felt compelled to go for a walk. I wanted to walk to the forest just outside the house. I looked back to Fluttershy and saw that she was still making food. I got up quietly and walked to the door to make my stealthy exit.

Outside was wet and rainy. The dirt path slushed under my hooves as I walked to the edge of the forest. It was still there, that feeling that called to me. I walked into the forest and felt so venerable to my surrounding. There was a faded path that lead deeper into the forest that I was fallowing.

The path came to a river that had fast moving water, I simply flew over it. The path countenued until it lead to a steep drop off. Lastly I came to a bridge that had seen better days. I couldn’t see the other side because of the fog, but it was calling to me.

I looked in awe at the castle in front of me. it was the first thing I saw when I was transported here, had a sense of familiarity to it. It was completely demolished right now, but it still beared the sense of a home to it.

The castle doors were still in desent shape and slid open with relative ease. Inside was no better that the outside. There was holes in the roof and fungus growing in the corner. That feeling was calling me deeper into the castle. The dark hallways felt cold and unwelcoming, sending shivers down my spine.

I opened another set of doors to yet another hall, but this one was filled with broken windows. I walked slowly admiring all of the mostly intact ones. There was one that had managed to survive the elements and was completely intact. It depicted a stallion with a black coat and red eyes. He was surrounded by a dark blue cloud. He also had a murderous smile plastered on his face.

Those cheating bitches! We’ll turn them into glue!

Stan, what is this?

It looks like they blamed you for creating Nightmare Moon, or even worse, you were Nightmare Moon.

But that’s not true!

I turned around and ran out the hall, out the castle and into the trees. I ran until I got all the way back into Pony vile. I was ready to go back to my house, but I couldn’t let them see their leader like this. I ran back to Fluttershy’s and pushed the door open and ran up the stairs. I found a bed that had green blanket on it. I jumped on and started crying my eyes out.

I felt a hoof touch my shoulder and try to comfort me. I ignored it and continued to cry into the bed. They had made me into a monster. To keep the blame off of Luna, they said that I was Nightmare Moon.

We don’t know that for sure. Have you read any history books since we got here?

No….

Then go get one so we can be sure.

It wasn’t a command as much as a suggestion, but I felt compelled to go find a history book. I took a deep breath and stopped crying. When I looked up, I saw a pair of teal eyes staring at me sadly. A gave her a weak smile back.

“Are you going to be okay?” she asked sweetly.

I nodded. “I will be once I find a history book.” I said.

“Well, I’m sure Twilight has what you’re looking for. But you can do all that tomorrow.” She got off the bed and headed back down stairs. I followed shortly after her, sitting back on the couch waiting for her. She came over shortly with a tray of food and sat it down in front of me. “Do you, that is, if you don’t mind, want to talk about it?”

I nodded. I sighed as I tried to figured out how to ask this.

Be blunt.

“Do you think I’m a monster?” I asked.

She looked at me for a moment before answering. “No, I think you’re a hero. Why do you ask?”

“when I went out, I went to the old castle in the Everfree. What I saw made me feel used and lied to. It depicted me as a monster.” I sighed.

“You were gone for a long time, I was starting to think you went home. But then you ran in here and started crying. I didn’t know what was wrong, but I knew you needed somepony to comfort you.”

I smiled at her. “Thank you, Fluttershy.” She had known me for maybe five days, and she was already showing me such kindness. This place was way better than any place back home. Well, maybe not Canada.

We ate in silence leaving me to my thoughts. I could understand why they did it. They didn’t want their subjects to know that Luna went crazy and tried to bring about eternal night. That would really up her popularity with her subjects. Worse yet, I’ll have to tell Twilight why I want to the book. unless she already knows, she has read all the books in the Canterlot library after all.

I looked into my bowl of soup, and for the first time in a long time, I missed meat. Then I remembered cupcakes. A shiver ran through my body. Nope, I don’t need meat that bad.

I let out a yawn after I finished my soup. Taking this opportunity to be stupid, I reached my hoof around the other side of the couch onto Fluttershy’s shoulders. When I looked over I saw a deep red blush wash over her face. My smile widened.

“Oh, umm…. I’m not really….. *squeak*” I rolled onto the floor laughing. That was so adorable. Her blush depend as  I laughed my flank off. My luaughter was interrupted as a yawn came out.

“Well, I’m tiered, I’ll see you later Fluttershy.” I said walking to the door.

“Oh, wait…. Your not staying here?” she asked.

“I hadn’t planned on it, no. Do you want me to stay?”

“Oh, ummm…. That is… if you don’t mind.” Her voice dropped off at the end.

I turned around and started to walk up the stairs making no comment. The bed was soft and warm, plus I didn’t even know what room was my own at home. I crawled under the covers and drifted off to sleep.

Then the nightmares came. I was killing ponies left and right, using a magic that flowed around me. magic blasts desimated ponies and a flick of my hoof sent them flying, I was unstoppable. The sun sat behind the moon and I could feel the bedlam surrounding me. they all died at my hooves and it felt amazing to be able to take all of their lives so easily.

Then a yellow mare stood in front of me. I tossed her to the side, but before I knew who I had thrown, it was too late. She slammed into a wall and stopped breathing. Then I woke up. I got out of bed and ran down stairs. I couldn’t breathe and I started pulling my armor off. My hooves fumbled with the straps and I barely managed to get off the armor by myself.

Now that my armor was off, I was breathing normally. I kept telling myself that it was just a dream, but what if it wasn’t? what if that was a glimpse into the future. What is wrong with me? first the dragon, and now the nightmares.

“I need a distraction or something. Maybe I could go help AJ with apple bucking. Or….” There was a knock at the door. I took a deep breath and tried to make myself presentable.

When I opened the door, I felt as if my prayers had been answered. There atanding in the doorway, was the one and only DJ Pon3.

“Look, I don’t have much time. I need somepony to fill in for one of my DJs that cancelled on me. I could really use your help right now.” She said.

“Yeah, I can do it.”

“Pleas! I really need your help! I can pay you and….. wait. Did you say yes?” she said. I nodded and smiled at her, she was helping me more than I was helping her. ”Great!” she grabbed my hoof and started pulling me to a carriage that was parked outside.

As we flew through the sky, I couldn’t help but wonder. Where the hell did she get this thing? Two pegasi pulled the cart towards Canterlot at a breakneck pace.  The moon was still high in the sky which explained why I was so tired, it was still only like three o’clock.

Landing was smoother than I thought it would be, but I still filched when the wheels touched the pavement in front of some club. The bass on the speakers was turned up way to high and I could feel the beat reverberating on the street.

I fallowed the DJ into the club and backstage until she showed me to a room with the name “Neon Lights” on it. Another brony I’ll have to find later after the day is over. Once Vinyl pushed the door open, I was amazed to see how big the room was. The was a sliding glass door that lead to a alcony with a hot tub.

Vinyl smirked at me. “Look, your set is on in ten minutes. Any questions?” she asked.

“Nope. Oh, wait. Do you want to sing with me?” i asked nonchalantly.

“Sing? I’ve never sang during one of my sets before.” Her head drooped a little at this. I smiled at her as she wallowed in…. whatever ponies wallow in.

“There’s a first time for everything Vinyl. Besides, with the song I have in mind, I’m putting a lot of faith in a certain random mare.

Her ears perked up at this. “I guess I could do it.” She submitted. Yes, this is going to be awesome. The only thing that could make this better would be if the forth wall gets shattered by the end of the day.

I walked out of the room shortly after Vinyl left. I walked up to the bar and ordered a shot from the stallion working the bar. The liquid burned going down but woke me up from my daze. I watched as the last DJ walked off the stage and Vinyl take his place to announce the next DJ.

“Alright everypony lets give a round of applause for our next DJ, Midnight Rain!” I walked up onto the stage and smiled.  Vinyl handed (Hoofed?) me a microphone so I could start the song.

My gamble had paid off in the end. Pinkie showed up out of nowhere right before her part. I was worried for a second, but it was all for not. I went back to the room after setting the set for auto play. There, I promptly passed out.
