What is the purpose of science? The answer depends on the person, but the question will drive Allen McMurray, an idealist young scientist, to partake in the most controversial research of his time: human ponification.

Originally designed as the last defense to save people from the worst plague in human history, ponification is soon seen by the world to be more than a medicine or a vaccine. To many it will become either a means to a new and happier life in Equestria or the grossest possible violation of human rights and liberties. Caught in the middle of these worldviews, Allen will have to endure the consequences of his involvement in the infamous Project Poni.
