Life Of A Haunted Mare
What Was That?
Load Full StoryTwilight trotted down the corridor in the castle. She headed for the Canterlot café once she walked through the large, majestic front doors of the castle. The purple mare usually came across a muffin-loving mare named Derpy Hooves, or Ditzy Doo as some would call her, at the café. The mare was rather clumsy and silly, but also cheerful, similar to Pinkie Pie.
As Twilight passed many mares and stallions on the sidewalk, they smiled at her respectfully and politely stepped back, so she had the entire sidewalk all to herself.
"Erm, thanks, but you don't need to-" Twilight began.
A light purple mare with a yellow mane and tail ran up to Twilight. This is Lyrica Lilac. "Oh, no, no, no! You must have our support...you're a princess!" she interrupted.
Twilight let out an irritated sigh. "No, no, it's alright!" she hastily said before another pony could interrupt her.
Twilight rushed away from the group of elegant mares and stallions. "I never knew it'd be this obnoxious as a princess! If ponies give me the entire sidewalk, I can't imagine what Princess Celestia gets into with every mare and stallion in Equestria sucking up to her."
As the café came into sight as Twilight disappeared around a corner, the purple alicorn was filled with relief. "Finally," she sighed, but she was still slightly irked from the Canterlot ponies that overpraised her.
Twilight opened the door to the café, half hoping that the ponies inside wouldn't attempt to charm her, but half thinking that they probably would.
More relief washed over Twilight as she walked to the counter of the café, with no ponies watching her intently.
"One muffin, please. Also, some water," Twilight said.
Twilight blinked, then jumped, when she saw the pony at the counter. It was Pinkie Pie.
"Pinkie Pie?! Aren't you supposed to be working at Sugarcube Corner in Ponyville?!" Twilight reminded her friend.
"Oh, no, not today. I have a day off today. And, sometimes, on my day off, I like to work here too! It's my second job. Sometimes my work days are active on my days off, sometimes they aren't!" Pinkie Pie rambled.
"So that's why I don't see you here all the time?" Twilight asked.
Pinkie Pie nodded, then gave Twilight a muffin and a glass of water.
Just then, Derpy rushed into the café. "One muffin, please!" she ordered quickly.
Twilight left the two mares to talk, then sat down at a table across from a light blue mare wearing a jacket. The mare didn't look up at her, she simply sipped some of her coffee and ate her muffin.
"I'm Twilight," Twilight said, thinking this pony wouldn't praise her.
"And?" the mare said sharply, making Twilight slightly wince.
"Oh, nothing," she said as she blushed, now embarrassed. At least this mare wasn't sucking up to her like most of Canterlot.
The alicorn started to eat her muffin and drink her water nervously. The other mare looked up, revealing herself, as Twilight stared at her again. It could not be more obvious as to who this mare was.
"Trixie! What are you doing in Canterlot?!" Twilight exclaimed, gaining a few confused looks from ponies sitting nearby.
"Why do you ask?" Trixie sneered, mocking the princess. She was lucky Twilight still couldn't adjust to her royal status, as Twilight could have arrested her right away.
"Well...you ran away! And I thought you were reformed," Twilight reminded the villainous mare, sounding harsh.
"That's all true, but who says I can't change? You just said I was reformed, and being reformed is being changed," Trixie pointed out cleverly. She smiled smugly at her counterargument.
Twilight's whole face went from lavender to the color of fire. With all of the sweat streaming down her forehead, she even felt like fire too. She had no reply for this, and she felt embarrassed now.
"That's what I thought, princess," Trixie spat rudely, getting up from the table and sliding her chair in. She stormed off from Twilight's presence, rushing out of the café through the front doors, eliciting a ring from the bell that rested above the café entrance. Her coat streamed behind her, covering the back of her body entirely.
Twilight stared blankly at the chair in front of her that Trixie pushed in. She looked back down at her glass of water and her partially-eaten muffin. She finished eating her muffin and drinking her muffin, then cleaned up, wiping the crumbs off of her face. Twilight sighed and looked around, then trotted outside. She looked up as a few drops of rain hit her head. The sky was covered with ominous, large, grey clouds.
More rain drops pelted the streets and buildings of Canterlot. Twilight shivered as they landed on her coat. She ran straight down the street, thinking this was where Trixie went. Hopefully she was right, so that could make up for her lack of a response when Trixie said her counterargument.
