Chapters It's the late night hours in the magical city of Canterlot, Luna has raised the moon to share her wounderous night. DJ Pon-3 was in her practice room, preparing for her performance tomorrow night. The walls around her were shaking violently, and the ground almost like an earthquake. The song ended, at that time, a grey mare slowly trotted into the room carrying a cello.
"OCTY!" DJ yelled.
" Hey Vinyl, I got to listen to you play for a while. Are you alright?" Octavia asked.
DJ trotted closer to Octavia and whispered into her silver grey ear, " I'll tell you later."
Octavia nodded; she started to worry. What was happening to her filly-hood friend? DJ left the room on her way home. Octavia, left alone with her own questions, she simply couldn't drop the thought, it seemed to stick and never wanted to leave. But she went on practicing for hers tonight. She did wonderfully, although the thing DJ was wanting to tell her later still bugged her. When her performance was over, she went home, not stopping to talk with her agent.
The door busted open as Octavia trampled in.
" Octy what's wrong?" DJ asked.
" Well, I wanted to come home in a hurry to hear what was wrong with you. I mean, I am concerned for you, afterall you are my best friend. What seems to be bothering you?" Octavia asked.
" Really, that's why you busted the door against the wall? I thought I only did that?"
" DJ! Ugh, please tell me, I want to know."
" Come with me."
DJ lead Octavia into her hall of album music. DJ sat down behind her wub maker, and Octavia sat down on the nearest chair in that room.
" Octy, the thing that is bothering me is that... All of the sudden, I am. Well, it's hard to explain." DJ said.
" Come on Vinyl quit stalling! Please tell me." Octavia ordered.
" Okay Okay, geeze, and I thought that I was bossy."
" VINYL!"
" Alright, Alright. The thing that is bugging me is that I am losing my love for this career. Well, the thing is, I am getting a little older now, and I see that. But the thing is, I'm tired of making music, I have accomplished so much, and I just am losing my touch. I have made over 100 albums and over 600 appearances here, and, it just doesn't feel right anymore. Even my bass cannon doesn't make a shrill anymore. I feel like I am dying inside, losing my love for wubs. Don't you understand Octy?"
Octavia didn't answer, her heart started to hurt. Her best friend, the one that LOVED making wubs, was simply losing it.
" I figured you would understand Octy. You should think about retiring too. I'm going for my finale tomorrow night. Please come! It will be my last time on stage." DJ asked.
Octavia still didn't answer, the pain made her lose her ability to answer.
" I'm so glad you could make it Octy! Your my best friend. Well, not like you already knew that. Goodnight." DJ said.
She trotted out of the room and turned off the light. Octavia was still inside.
She's lost her love of music. How is that possible? Or is it even possible? What's wrong with her? How can I help her?
Octavia lead DJ towards a raggedy old schoolhouse that was now empty. The walls weren’t that beautiful red anymore. It was more like a pale red than bright red. All the windows were smashed, the doors hinges were all rusted.
“Why would you bring me here?” DJ asked.
“Don’t you remember this place?” Octavia asked.
DJ looked around and thought for a little while. Then, it finally became familiar. The rugged schoolhouse once was a beautiful red building, filled with young fillies and colts. Then, in the distance she saw a small white filly next to a silver filly wearing a pink bow around her neck.
“Come on Octy, you can do it!” young DJ said.
“I’m not sure Vinyl. No pony ever likes my kind of music.” Young Octavia said.
“Don’t worry about that, if they laugh at you, I know that your music is amazing. And I will be there to support you every step.”
“Will you really do that?”
“Duh! I always will be there for you!”
“Thanks Vinyl.”
The silver filly stood up with her filly sized cello and started to play. At the end, the ponies that were watching clapped. Then there was a flash.
“Your cutie mark.” DJ said.
“What?” Octavia asked.
“I’m remembering the day that you earned your cutie mark at the school. Well, when we both earned our cutie marks. When you played the cello in front of the entire schoolyard, and I played my music after you and got mine. And I told you that I would always be by your side, which I would always be there for you. Even if they all laughed at you.”
“I remember that too. What do you think about your own career?”
“Nothing really. Now if you can excuse me, I need to practice with what time I have left before my performance.”
DJ left the schoolyard and headed towards the practice room. Octavia started to cry.
I thought that it would work. Man, I need to go deeper. I need to find something that she would truly remember.
Octavia didn't know what to do; that very morning when DJ left the house, Octavia went down to the Everfree Forest. There awaited her answer, the one thing that would save her best friend. Soon, Octavia came up to a tree house, with inside, the one zebra that no pony ever liked, Zecora.
" Ah, hello my cello playing friend. Please come in, enjoy my sweet treasures. What seems to be the matter?" Zecora asked.
" Uh well Zecora. You remember Vinyl?" Octavia asked.
" Why yes, the one you call friend. Is she alright?"
" Well, she kind of lost love. Her love of making her music. And I came here to you, maybe so you could help me with her. Is there a way that she will start loving her destiny again?"
Zecora went towards her shelves of books, looking for a way to save DJ. Sadly, there wasn't. Zecora grabbed here stick and started to balance on her head.
" ZECORA!" Octavia yelled.
" Be quiet, I'm trying to think. So then I could help you in your fink." Zecora ordered.
Octavia got quiet and watched Zecora. Then, there came an idea.
" AH! I've got it!" Zecora said.
" What is it?" Octavia asked.
" Did she tell you that she simply just lost her love for her destiny because of the accomplishments she has made?"
" Yeah. That's what it was."
" There is one way to fix it."
" What is it? TELL ME!"
" Listen very carefully: Destiny be lost. Bring back what was once true. There is only one that can save her. But do it before time goes out. Or else, so long."
" What? How am I supposed to know what to do?"
" Follow the riddle, and you will see, in your little heart, what is the cure. For your predicament."
Octavia was confused. Destiny be lost. Bring back what was once true. There is only one that can save her. But do it before time goes out. Or else, so long.
How am I supposed to know what to do? How can I save her with this riddle? Destiny be lost. Bring back what was once true. There is only one that can save her. But do it before time goes out. Or else, so long.
When nightfall came, DJ grabbed her things and headed to the rehearsal room, before her performance.
" Hey Vinyl, can I speak to you for just a second?" Octavia asked.
" Yeah sure. What's wrong Octy?" DJ asked.
" Well, would you like to go out before you go to your concert?"
" I really can't right now Octy, could we go after?"
" NO, I, I, I mean no. It's better if we go before."
" Well, it's going to have to wait til tomorrow."
" Please DJ, it shouldn't take long!"
" Fine.
DJ arrived at the stage house in Canterlot. She tuned up her wub tables. Soon the performance started. Octavia was in the audience watching DJ play. It was magnificent, DJ left the stage, limping. Octavia got up and ran backstage.
"DJ are you okay?" Octavia asked.
"Yeah Octy, why wouldn't I be." DJ answered.
"Well, you do give a point but you really don't look so good. You're hurt, but you didn't move anywhere. Are you sure your alright?"
"OCTY! I'm alright, just leave me alone right now. Tomorrow you and I can go anywhere! Just us friends okay."
Octavia thought for a moment. Maybe this was her chance to help DJ out. It was all she had left now.
"Okay, we can go to the castle!" Octavia said.
"Why the castle?" DJ asked.
"Just to see the Princess and I need to retrieve something."
"Okay, we'll go tomorrow morning."
Prefect, Twilight should be there. Maybe there is a book there about how I could fix this, while she could send one of the guards ponies to take DJ around the castle. Octavia planned in her head.
DJ went to her dressing room limping still. She placed her wub table that went around her neck on the floor. She then simply fell onto the chair in the room. Something was wrong, but she couldn't put her hoof on it. She sat there for a little while, staring at her wub table, the silver outlines of the machine still shinned, the sound when she performed was still like new. But, herself she couldn't do it anymore, and she could feel it. In a split second, the light from the room disappeared.
