Ashes To Ashes

Another Day

I walk along the straight path that's in these woods.  I walk until the path finally ends, and I see a river bank, just the place I was going to.  There's none of them there.  By them I mean by the four legged multi -colored horses,...nope still sounds stupid.  The river, has a small island in the middle that sticks out, and the other side of the small island is just some more trees.  That's what I see everyday,...trees.  I put down my bag, that's full of things that I need, food, a canteen, a small pistol, nothing to extreme that would slow down my movement.  Anything else that I need is back at my small little house.  I sit down and I fill my canteen.

I know that I really shouldn't be out in the open, but I after I'm done filling it I like to stay here, and look at the steams going down to the left of me.  It reminds me of how my life used to be.  Or, rather how MY life used to be, in a simple routine over, and over again.  I hated it back then, but now...I would give anything back for it.  Back then there were millions of humans, now today there is probably less the 100 still alive.  I know right. Heh.  How does mankind lose in the one thing that it has perfected?  Killing.  Those who are still left, are either on the brink of suicide, trading whatever they have for supplies, or are being killed by horses.  Mostly the first one.  Not me though.  I don't know why, maybe it's because my friend would be all alone in this world.

I've got say maybe,...one, or two hours of sunlight left.  I've got plenty of cans back home, so food ( at the moment) isn't a problem.  I leave the river, and begin to walk down the same path I came from.  But instead of going back to my house, I end up exploring these woods.  Not the best idea, but ponies while hunting like to set up camp.  If I'm luck enough I'll find an empty camp with a six-pack of beer, heh.  But still I have to be lucky.  Lucky enough for them to be gone, and for their to be some liquor there.  Also can't forget about the numerous amount of insane humans.  My life is just GREAT isn't it !

I guess this is my lucky break I see,..about two tents in a clearing with an unlit fire place.  With them gone of coarse. I heard a loud crack of thunder, I immediately look up, and see storm clouds are brewing.  So better make this quick, before it rains making impossible to go home, or before they come back.  I'm personally fine with either.  I begin looking for the the first tent, one that seem's to have been built for a full size mare.  I look through it only to find a photo, and a sleeping bag, none of them in it of coarse.   I pick up the photo and see it's a picture of a mare and a filly, and I put it in my pocket.  I begin to wonder why one of them would bring a photo of them and their kid out here.  My eye's glance to the right, and there is the thing I was praying for a pack of beer.  I pick it up only to find only 4 were left, but you know better something then nothing.  I step out of the tent, only for my heart to skip a beat.  I hear the voices of a filly, and a mare, both of the voices coming closer.

I jump to the nearest tree and hide behind it.  I want to run, but they will hear the noise I'd make if I decide to run.  I begin to take small quiet breaths to keep myself calm.  It's not working.

"-Good thing too."   I heard one of them say

" But still don't you think it would have been pretty cool to see one of them don't you think?"  I turn my head just a fraction of a inch to see who they are.  I see a full grown mare with....or for God's sake,...rainbow styled hair she's also wearing a black suit up to her neck, and with a freaking axe on some sort of hook on the suit, and she's looking straight down at a filly with purple hair with the mare coat being a light cyan color, and the filly's being an orange color.  The filly has a worried smile and the mare talks.

" No, it wouldn't be, because they could have gotten to you,"   The mare responded.

" Well... yeah but you could have killed them with your axe."   The filly said.

" Yeah, but still I wouldn't have wanted you to see that if I had to." I see the mare go into her tent, and I hear her curse

" Oh some bucker took them, and... oh you are kidding me."   Yeah,.. she said 'buck' Equestrian swearing isn't as good as regular swearing.  I'm feel a few rain drops of thunder, and the sky is getting increasingly darker.

The only problem is that I don't know when it's the right time to go.  I hear the filly speak one more time.

"  Okay Scootaloo it's time to go." said the mare.

" Aww, but can't we stay." said the small filly.

What is wrong with her?!  She's in the middle of the 'formally' most dangerous woods in this world, and she wants to stay! Is she insane!

" Sorry, Scootaloo but i can't have you catching a cold."  At least the mare is smart enough to know that she can't stay out here.  I turn my head slightly to the left to see them packing up their tents and they begin to walk home,....wherever it is.

I let out a sigh of relief and notice something.

The sky has turned into a dark blue, and the pace of the rain has increased, and is getting faster by the minute.  I carry the pack of beer, and I start walking the way I came.  Only one problem though.  The rain made it impossible to see where I was going.

" Come on Nick you had one job."  I tell myself, it makes me crack a grin.  I look around, and see that I some of this terrain I getting closer.  I start walking toward the path home until I hear something It sounds like someone screaming.  It gets me concerned.   I look toward the way I heard the screaming.  I try to turn around until I hear the scream a bit more clearly now, but I still can't make it out.  I put down the beer, and, I pull down my small bag of stuff and rush to pull out my small pistol, and I ran in the direction I heard the scream.  I had no idea where I was going.

I rush with the sounds of my shoes hitting the mud, and the rain getting in my face.  Of coarse, because of my stupid luck, I had to see that I was about to run of a cliff.  I tried to stop, but pushing my feet back.  I fail, to stop, and I  try to hold onto the cliff I can feel my grip slipping very slowly slipping I try to put my other arm onto the edge, but i slip before I could do that.  I fear that the loud clap of thunder, and the sound of rain are gonna be the last thing I'm gonna hear.

Luckily it isn't I fell a very short 4 feet.  The first thing I see, is a pony,...or horse whatever it doesn't matter.  He looks to me with eyes full of rage and begins to walk up to me slowly.  I try to stand up but I feel pain in my back and I fall back toward the ground.  I frantically move my hand to see if my pistol fell down with me.  I fell something oddly curved, and a bit heavy.  It fell down with me, I guess there is a god looking out for me.

I pull it up and I pull the trigger and watch his expression change from angry to surprised, right before I heard the bang of my gun and watched him hit the floor.  My breathing is fast, but soon I calm down and make an effort to get up.  I turn left and right  until I look what is right in front of me.  I was breathless.

Right in front of me, and I do mean what is right in front of me, it's....it's unbelievable there is almost no logical way that what I could be seeing is real.  I'm looking at what appears to be a 5 YEAR OLD BOY looking down.  Me and him are both silent for what felt like an eternity.  With only the sounds of rain, and occasional thunder filling our ears.  I try to talk but I can't.  I rather just raised my hand and spoke

" Um,...hi kid.  Um,.. where are your parents?"  he just stood there and finally looked at me, I don't think he would have heard me if I didn't say Hi.  But still he just stood there.

Yep, I'm quite the genius aren't I?
