Rainbow Falls
The Firecracker
Load Full StoryThe Firecracker
The scent of freshly evaporated rain filled the air, only to be circulated by the cool breeze on this fine morning. This colossal mansion had plenty of windows and open spaces to let the aroma fill the floating architecture. This house was currently being occupied by a colorful mare by the name of Rainbow Dash.
Still sound asleep, as if she was under a spell, Rainbows light breathing cycle was disturbed by a sudden crash of thunder and lightning. Rainbow sprung up as scared as a little foal. Rainbow buried her head into her hooves.
“Gaaahh!! I hate these storms!!” Rainbow was now clearly screaming. “How is there even enough rain in Equestria for five storms in a row?”
Rainbow eventually calmed down and grew familiar to the clapping thunder sessions. Everypony enjoys a little bit of sit down time to do an activity of your choice. Rainbow Dash always chooses to read books from the Daring Do series but that was out of the option since it was announced that her favorite author was a little behind schedule. It was a major let down for Rainbow knowing that she’s waited months just for it.
A little bit later the raging storm seemed to clear up leaving behind a few clouds but not an annoying amount. The sun was still strong enough the overpower the dull clouds from before, it was turning out to be a beautiful day, especially for flights.
After a couple yawns, Rainbow found the strength to get up onto her four hooves and made her way out the door. When finally outside, Rainbow was met with a beautiful view; a rainbow. Rainbow studied over the rainbow.
“Eh. I’ve made better rainbows in my sleep.”
With that, Rainbow engaged in her daily warmup routine; 5 wing ups, 5 push ups, 5 wing stretches for each wing, and 10 laps around the house.
“Well, seems like my trick list is 99 percent completed, all I have to do is the Firecracker and then I’m done! Lets do this.”
Rainbow started off slowly flying straight and forming a loop, then breaking off and rocketing up. Once Rainbow was at high enough speed she kicked up and flung into a fit of spirals. Suddenly the spirals became like physical toxins, making Rainbow feel nauseous. Rainbow could feel herself reaching the ground; crashing through branches and blasting through wood and coming to a meet with the ground. She suddenly heard a familiar voice.
"Oh my Celestia. My books!!! Wait, OH NO, RAINBOW DASH!!!" The unknown pony got closer and closer.
That... kinda sounds like.. Twilight
Rainbow was sure right, it was Twilight, and Spike too.
"Rainbow. Rainbow. Please answer me!" Twilight screeched.
"....."
"SPIKE!!"
Twilight. I'm standing right next to you."
"This is no time for joking around Spike. You need to help me get Rainbow to the hospital as soon as possible."
With that, Spike pushed Rainbow up on Twilights back and held on to Rainbow while Twilight flapped her wings as hard as she could to deliver her best friend, also fellow element, to the Ponyville hospital.

Rainbow slowly cracked her eyes open see Twilight leaning over her. Rainbow panicked for a moment when she felt an odd amount of pressure on her stomach. Rainbow effortlessly tried to quickly peak without much movement, easily accomplishing that, she saw it was Spike.
"Rainbow?" Twilight sounded very concerned.
"Mhm."
"Thank Celestia you're okay."
"I may be, but my wings aren't." Rainbow finally noticed the condition her wings were in.
"Spike, why don't you go get the doctor."
"Yes Princess." Spike quickly shuffled through the door and lightly pulled it shut.
"Twi?"
"Yes Rainbow?"
"What.... happened?"
Twilight hesitated. "All I know is that you blasted through my ceiling."
Rainbow stared wide-eyed at Twilight for several seconds until Spike returned with the doctor.
"Hello, Miss. Dash. My name is Dr. Fray, how have you been feeling since you've woken up?"
"I don't know. I can't really feel anything so I'm guessing that's bad and good?"
"Well, if you could feel, the pain would be atrocious knowing what you did to your wing. The muscle in your left wing is technically lacerated."
"..... Get me more anesthesia. Now."
Dr. Fray lightly chuckled, leaving the room occupied by Rainbow and Twilight in dead silence.
This is so not good. Rainbow thought to herself. What if I can never, ever, ever, EVER, fly again... Oh come on Rainbow Dash, of course you will recover quickly. I hope. You know what, just stop thinking negatively, start thinking positively. Think about how this will be a wonderful story to tell the Wonderbolts to show off about how brave and strong I am. Wow, I must have really high pain tolerance... oh wait no here it comes.
"GAHHH!!"
"Rainbow!"
"Twilight. Get the doctor, it hurts so badly."
"Spike!"
"Already on it!"
"Rainbow, just think about happy things, think about Daring Do defeating her arch nemesis or... THE WONDERBOLTS, yea and um, BECOMING ONE OF THEM!!!"
"I can't become one if I can't fly."
Suddenly a crew of doctors and nurses rushed into the room with needles. Rainbow was poked with one needle and was taken out within 10 seconds. Right before Rainbow lost conscious she asked one fateful question.
"Doctor, what are the chances of me flying again?"
"I'm afraid only time will answer that question. For the time being, my answer is; a lot of recovery is needed Miss. Dash... A lot of recovery."
Rainbow laid back, becoming engulfed into a world of darkness, awaiting the next challenge that the future beholds.
