Canterlot Detective
Chapter One
Something grabs the brunette girl’s leg as she tries to run down a dark, worn hallway. “What.. Are you?!” she squeals as the darkness pulls her closer. “You belong through the mirror” an eerie voice answers back. The girl dashes towards the end of the hall and stops to look back, gasping for air. “Please, I have no idea what you’re talking about!” “Mirror... It’s there” She turns away and tears form in her eyes as she stumbles towards a splendor mirror with golden edges. Dead end. “What..?” The mirror sparkles at her. A cool, but comforting air entices her to come closer. “Mirror..” the voice echo’s before she presses her hot fingers against the cold surface. The mirror becomes flimsy to the point of Jello. The girl feels the darkness at her back and then a push as she falls through the thick slimy wall.
“Detective..” I hear a faint voice as I sit up under the large oak tree. A white earth pony with a guard uniform is standing above me. I yawn before answering back groggily. “Let me guess, there’s a fight at the drinking mare?” “N-no detective..” I raise an eyebrow as he watches me get up ruffling my wings. “Then what is it? And why on earth are you stuttering! You’re a royal guard for Christ sakes, Silver.” He straightens up and keeps looking at me “Sorry Detective Strawberry but, there’s been a murder.” I stretch out my wings while I walk past him with a smile “Behind Fancy Pant’s club.. In the alley” I stop in my tracks and I twist to look at him holding my breath. “Is Octavia and Dj alright?” He nods. “Yes but some other pony wasn’t so fortunate.. Another citizen.” I sigh and nod. That’s a second this week. I don’t understand it. Silver clears his throat waiting for my response. “Uh, yeah I’ll meet you there.” I lift off the ground and into the air.
Dj and Octavia have been my friends for a while. We had met at the Gala last year. Princess Celestia had introduced us. “Since you’re all artists, I’d like you to get ready for my banquet by planning and executing in the honor of Princess Luna and myself.” Needless to say, after our artistic combination, we stayed friends ever since.
After arriving in Canterlot, the Royal Guards ushered me behind the “FancyStallion”. A mare sprawled out on the ground awaited me. “Name?” “PeachTop” “How did she die?” I ask “asphyxiation.” I sigh as I look under her hoof and I find a note. “Behind FancyStallion: 12:00AM.” I crease my brow as I trudge closer to her. “We had the first note telling the stallion to meet in the alley behind the warehouse. He also died of strangulation. Coincidence, or we’re only dealing with one suspect. And I’m pretty sure it’s not parasprites looking for noise” The Royal Guards nod. “See if there’s any clues as to who this is.. And send the body to my precinct.” I have to study the body carefully tomorrow morning.. A forensic detective. I’m the only mare that has two duties in this city. I guess Princess Celestia trusts me to be the lead detective and do lab work.
I enter the bar as the Royal Guards carry her body away. “Hey Octavia!” I wave my hoof at the grey, black haired pony bartending. Octavia often plays her cello here at the club, but some nights she’s mostly making drinks as Dj performs without her. “Hello Strawberry, any idea who the killer might be? I cannot believe no one found that poor mare until the dish washer did next to the dumpster this morning..” I sighed taking a seat in front of the bar. “I came in here looking for more clues. Did you see her last night?” I spread my wings in excitement as she nodded her head. “She sat in here at 11 for an hour and ordered three long mareland iced teas. The only reason I knew the time was she was definitely suspicious I thought I would note her presence. She kept looking around strangely and then she paid with cash, then disappeared within an hour."
I write down what I knew so far: Came into the bar at 11PM, She ordered three alcoholic beverages as she waited for an hour, very attentive to her surroundings as if she was searching for someone, and left around 12AM. I put down my notebook. “Where’s Dj?” “She went home. I’m taking over music tonight.” “Alright I can ask her what she remembers about last night tomorrow when the three of us have lunch. Night Octy.” I get up to leave and she smiles. “Goodluck!” I nod and trot out of the door.
It’s a cool night outside in Canterlot. My apartment is in the middle of the city next to the square. As I’m flying above the rooftops, I wonder about that dream I had before Silver came and woke me up.. Some kind of creature chasing after another creature, both of which I could understand very well. “I shouldn’t let it bother me as much as it is... But it’s strange.” I say aloud, before landing at the complex where I live. The door hop opens the door for me and I smile at him. “Another big day detective?” “You know it Don.. Goodnight!” Don tips his hat as I fly upstairs and I unlock my room. I walk in putting my gun in the night stand next to my bed and I go to the bathroom to take a shower. As I turn on the water, I stare at my groggy reflection. My big yellow star earrings sparkle back at me and I rub my snout against my tail. “Big day indeed..” I step into the shower letting the water rush over my head and beat on my tense shoulders. I finish washing up and I step out, shaking all the water off and I throw my towel around my neck. I flop onto the bed with my headphones and music device. I blink a couple times before falling asleep to Rhianna by Fleetmare Mac.
