When the Doctor looses his closest companion, Derpy Hooves, he realizes his adventures only bring harm to those he holds dear. He stops his adventures and stays in the Everfree forest, where he doesn't make contact with anypony but his neighbor Zecora. It's only until he meets a pink unicorn in town one day that everything changes.
