Tick Tock. My Eyes Snap Open. I am instantly alert, my muscles tense. My eyes scan the room then relax as I realize where I am. Another nightmare. They have been happening almost every night now. I glance out of my window. The sun hasn't even been raised yet! My eyes droop, and I fall into another half-sleep or reality and monsters.
The sun shines through my eyelids. I sit up, rubbing my eyes, trying to shake off the sleepiness of the night. A moment later the door flies open, with a slam so loud any thought of sleep instantly vanishes. A blue-gray blur I suspect is my Pegasus roommate flies in, a miracle he doesn't take the house apart. "Hey, Guess what day it is," Charged Thunder braked with his wings, barely missing a table in my room.
"Watch it, Thunder," I say, stretching my forelegs.
"It's fine Dawn, you know I won't hit anything," That's Charged Thunder, the pony I share this house with, and he's much more laid back than me. Just look at his room, and you'll see, from the messy floors, unmade bed, and the Wonder Bolts posters on the walls. "So, anyway," says Thunder, walking around my room. "You didn't answer my question,"
"Yes, I know," I say, finally getting out of bed. "It's my date with Daisy today,"
As I say this, I look at the clock on my bedside table. "Celestia! Is it that time already? I've got to meet her at Sugar Cube Corner in half an hour!" I dash out of my room, taking a shower so fast I barely feel the water running down my shoulders. I dash out of the bathroom, Thunder blow-drying my hair with beats of his wings. My hoofs barely feel the street I'm running so fast. Thunder keeps up, flapping his wings to the beat of my hoofsteps.
I reach Sugar Cube Corner in a few minutes later. Daisy is waiting there for me, and her eyes widen when she sees me. "Wispy! I thought you forgot about this!"
"Ya, sorry," I say, rubbing the back of my head with my hoof in embarrassment.
"It's fine, you showed up, that the important thing," She says, hugging me.
We walk into Sugar Cube Corner, hoof in hoof. We are one of the first ponies there, so Mrs. Cake spots us immediately when we walk in. "May I get you two anything?" she asks brightly. "Pinkie will be your chef today,"
"Did someone say CHEF?" Pinkie Pie speeds out of the kitchen, a grin so wide it covers half of her face. "This is going to be so much FUN!"
"I think I will have a cupcake," I say.
"Me too," Says Daisy, her eyes meeting mine the whole time she says this.
"Okey Dokie! Those will be out in just a few minutes!" Pinkie bounces back to the kitchen.
As soon as Pinkie leaves, we break up laughing, I'm not sure why. I guess we are just so happy we are finally here. "So, Wispy, What's going on with you? Have you found a job yet?"
"I just did, actually. I get to purchase supplies and equipment for Dr. Whooves. It pays fairly well, I suppose," I say.
"That's great, Wispy! So anyway, where's Thunder? He's got to be close, I know that," she asks.
"That's a surprise," I say, winking. "He's picking something up for me."
Just then, Pinkie brings two cupcakes piled high with creamy pink frosting out. They smell delicious. "Who's hungry for Super-good, Pinkie-made-quality cupcakes?" She sets them in front of each of us, their scents of goodness make my mouth start to water.
"So, what do you say, Daisy?"
"Let's eat!" she answers. We both take bites out of our cupcakes. They are the best I have ever tasted. Then I see that Pinkie is still standing there.
"Oh! sorry," I apologize, giving her a couple of bits.
"Thank you! Have a wonderful day!" she bounces back upstairs to her room. "Gummy's going to love the new toy I buy him with this!"
We both laugh again. "So anyway," I say. "What going on with you?"
"Oh, nothing much. Scootaloo crashed into our house again with our scooter. That what you get when you're neighbors with a future stuntspony," she laughs.
"Soon I think there's going to be a Pegasus-shaped dent in your wall if she doesn't stop trying to do sonic rainbooms off of her roof," I say. She smiles. I take another bite of my cupcake.
Other guests start to enter the café. I see that Thunder hasn't arrived yet. Strange. He should of been back by now. "Wispy," I hear Daisy say. I snap back into focus.
"Sorry, I zoned off their for a bit," I apologize. I eat the rest of my cupcake.
"Celestia, that sun's bright," says Daisy, shielding her eyes with a hoof. She's right, it does seem a brighter than normal. The summer solstice doesn't happen for a couple of moons. No way it can be this light yet. I start to sweat a bit, now noticing the extra heat as well.
"Let's leave," I finally say, standing. others in Sugar Cube Corner also seem to be getting up as well. This extra heat is starting to worry me now. Daisy and I have to squint it's so bright.
"Wispy, I'm scared," she says, covering her eyes.
"Don't worry, it's just a bit bright today," I say, knowing my words have no affect seeing how everything looks like its on fire now through my squinted eyes.
"Hey, Dawn." a familiar voice says. I look up, and see Thunder holding roses in his mouth, using his wings to cover his eyes. "I got those roses you wanted. What the hay is up with the sun today?"
That's when the sun splits and the first explosion happens.
