The mean, old mare slammed the door in Apple Bloom's face, leaving her in the rain once more. With a look of deep, utter depression, Apple Bloom trotted off back down the streets of Canterlot, her head hung low. Her tears were hidden by the masquerade that was the rain. Even her sniffles were drowned out by the unforgiving storm. She walked along the streets for a good five minutes, not even trying to go door-to-door anymore. She happened to look up and what she saw gave her hope. There, in the distance, was the Canterlot castle in all of its splendor and glory. Even in this, the darkest and gloomiest of nights, the castle still instilled a sense of awe and wonder in Apple Bloom. If Celestia would not take her in, then nopony would.
Princess Celestia sat on her excessively large bed. She knew that such a large bed was quite unnecessary, but she had the means of acquiring it, so she did. Almost everypony else had good beds in Canterlot. Then again, the economy was in such a prosperous state, that everypony could afford a lot of things. Almost everypony, that is. You do find the occasional poor pony, but most of those situations were caused by laziness or just plain neglect to their own lives. There were those rare cases where the pony had a rough time in life and things just weren't looking up. Celestia felt sympathy and guilt for those ponies, because she was the ruler and felt responsible for things like that. After all, it was her job and sworn duty to feel guilt for such things. If she didn't, then she couldn't call herself a good ruler.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock at her doors, which she opened with her magic. A guard came trotting in and bowed before her. Chuckling, she gestured for him to get up and said, "You don't have to bow, Shield Spur. We're all friends here."
The guard, still not quite used to Celestia and her ways said, while blushing a deep crimson, "Oh, of course. My apologies, your highness."
This made the alicorn giggle, "You don't have to apologise, either. To make it easy on you, I'll just get straight to the point. What is it you needed?"
The guard was still blushing furiously, but he somehow composed himself and said, "A pony has arrived at the castle and says that you know her. She said her name was Apple Bloom. I told her to wait downstairs and that I would come upstairs to ask if this was true or not."
Celestia's face brightened up at the mention of Apple Bloom, "Why, of course! Apple Bloom is always welcome in the castle! I must go and talk to her. It's been ages since we've conversed!"

Celestia walked up to Apple Bloom and brought the level of her smile to a normal one, afraid that she would make her friend uncomfortable, "Apple Bloom! Hello! It's so nice to see you!"
Apple Bloom's face brightened up and she said, "Feelin's mutual, Celestia! It's been so long..."
Celestia, having developed a need to cry tears of joy, but repressed them, hugged Apple Bloom. Celestia took in the scent of her mane, smelling the scent of rain water and strangely enough... apples. She pulled back and finally looked at the yellow mare not with blind happiness, but with her real eyes, saw how dreadful she looked. Her mane was completely ruined, her eyes held a look of a deep sadness, and she was shivering, "Oh my... you look absolutely dreadful!"
Apple Bloom looked down at herself and nodded, "Well, ah've been out in that storm for a good few hours. That's... kinda' why ah'm here. I have a favor to ask of ya."
Celestia nodded, "Anything, Bloomey, I'd do anything for you."
Apple Bloom blushed at the mention of her old nickname Celestia had picked out for her. But she blushed more so out of the fact that Celestia had said that she would do anything for her, "Well, ah'm goin' to be stayin' in Canterlot for a couple of days, and ah've been lookin' for a place to stay. Celestia's face transformed into a frown at hearing the misfortunes of Apple Bloom. It broke her heart to hear of such selfishness from her subjects, "That's terrible! No friend of mine is spending the night out on the streets. Come upstairs with me. There's a coat that you should have. If you're going to be out in the cold tomorrow, then you're going to have some sort of protection against the elements. And yes, you can stay."
Apple Bloom followed Celestia upstairs and into her room. The alicorn went over to a coat rack and took a large, brown, fluffy coat off of the metal stand and showed it to the yellow mare, "Make sure to get this coat from my room tomorrow. It's yours to keep. It's not as if I don't have hundereds more like it."
Apple Bloom had a look of gratitude plastered upon her face as her gaze fell upon the beautiful coat that could surely rival even Rarity's best work, "Ah... ah don't know what to say. Thank you, Celestia. You're so nice..."
