Broken Strings and Scratched Records
Octavia lay beneath the covers immersed in early morning silence and early morning thoughts, “So tranquil” She whispered to herself as she adjusted herself with a small smile. In the distance she could hear the familiar voices of three fillies cheering off into what must be another adventure.
In another room Vinyl Scratch sat at her laptop curtains drawn and her blanket wrapped around her. Around her neck rested her headset, from which came a various mix of heavy dubstep and a cacophony of explosions and gunshots. “Fuck!” She shouted as she was killed yet again, a side effect of an intense 13 hour gaming session which stretched throughout the night.
Leaning back Vinyl stretched and yawned loudly, before rubbing her eyes and shaking several cans in her desk, to her dismay all cans were empty. Stretching once more she stood and left the room.
Just as Vinyl had left the room the effects of standing up to quickly and sitting down for many hours had suddenly caught up with her, she stumbled quickly stretching out her arms to grab something to catch her balance on. What she grabbed was soft and squishy. She blushed looking up a Octavia, "uh Vinyl would you mind letting go of my..." Her voice trailed off sounding slightly annoyed at the random groping she was receiving.
Vinyl leapt back, “Oh god, ‘Tavi I’m sorry,” She said quickly, “I’ve and I stood up too-”
Octavia sighed, “Vinyl it’s fine just don’t… grope me again.”
A few moments later the two were sat at the dining room table, Octavia was slowly making her way through a newspaper while casually taking bites from a butter laden slice of toast, Vinyl took a sip from her energy drink trying to cope with the great need of sleep.
Octavia was wearing a simple grey dressing gown which had musical notes running down the sides while Vinyl was less casual, instead merely adopting her blue bra and panties. She was about to say something but thinking back to the earlier incident made her reconsider talking.
“Vinyl, I wish you wouldn’t stay up all night.” Octavia said offhandedly as she lay down the newspaper and ran her fingers through her own messy hair.
“Uh wha- Oh, Why?” Vinyl looked at her as she took another sip from her can. Of course she knew what the reasons were, she had this conversation several times before.
“It’s not just the shouting which I hear through the night it’s al-”
Vinyl interrupted, “I told you that I sometimes can’t help just that the oth-”
“Let me finish, it can’t be good for you. You deprive yourself of sleep and try and make up with these,” she gently prodded the can of energy drink with her finger, “These energy drinks can’t be good for you.”
Vinyl looked guiltily at Octavia, she hated to see her annoyed it always seemed wrong for Octavia the Calm to be annoyed, “I know, I know… but sometimes I just lose track of time,” Vinyl thought for a second before continuing, “Maybe we could go out later, you know, take your mind off this morning.”
Octavia shook her head, “I don’t know if I can, I’ve got a concert in a few days I have to pracrice,” She stood up and walked towards the calender on the wall and frowned.
“C’mon Tavi, all this rehearsing got you stressed you need a break,” Vinyl almost pleaded.
“Maybe you’re right… but I can’t miss the practice you know that,” she paused, “and you know it’s my biggest concert yet.”
“Ok, I understand but we won’t be out long, just for some ice cream,” Vinyl looked at the back of her best friend hopefully, “Today’s gonna be my last free time for a while, I’ve got club jobs from here on till two weeks, I don’t wanna waste it.”
Octavia sighed and turned to face Vinyl with a smile, “Yeah, ok then, I’ll come out,” the smile turned to a smirk, “but you have to get dressed first”
Vinyl glanced down, at first it was weird for Vinyl to be walking around in what was as close to the bare minimum clothes could be considered but Octavia had no just but to accept it, “Oh yeah, I almost forgot about that.”With new energy Vinyl quickly made her way upstairs and got dressed.
“Today’ll be the day, has to be.” Vinyl said quietly she pulled the plain white T-shirt over her head and that day they went for ice-cream.
