Chapter 3: Bolt of Lightning

Braeburn woke up and sat up to the smell of pancakes and apple treats. He was excited, then afraid to see Applejack. Why did he have to make a scene about that comment last night? He flew backwards back into bed and grunted, pulling the pillow over his face.

He trotted downstairs. He didn’t even look at Applejack who was cooking. He just sat on the couch across from the kitchen and thought. He was thinking about Soarin. When would he show up today? If he even would. He wanted to him so bad. It has been a while since he had a friend he looked forward to seeing again. Soarin was amazing to him. He was friends with a soon to be Wonderbolt! He sat back up with this thought. Would he take him to the shows with him and stuff? He was always intrigued with pegasus, never used to seeing them from where he was from, but now he was with one of the best of them. But wait. Why would Soarin want to be friends with him?

Before he could think more of this, Applejack shouted that breakfast was ready. He trotted over to the kitchen, avoiding Applejack, and snatching a few pancakes and sneaking outside. He went around the barn, snacking on the pancake, when he heard a call from above.

“Hey dude!” The pegasus came gliding down to the ground. It was Soarin. He must have been waiting on a cloud. Braeburn tossed the pancake aside and swallowed quickly.

“-Hey!” he called back. He trotted over to where he was going to land and was smiling. Soarin picking up on his energy, gave a smile back.

        “How’d you sleep?” Asked Soarin

“Great! Ah got to bed right after we met so ah could get up early, and well, see ya again”

Soarin laughed. He really started to like this stallion. He found him cute.

“So what do you have planned for today?” Braeburn asked.

“ Why don’t we just hang out?”

        “Okay, where to then?”

“Town? We could go shopping or something”

Soarin and Braeburn headed to town, in search of something to do. They got some snacks at a snack shop, hay fries and such, and sat at a bench. They pony watched for a bit and talked about their lives. Soarin mostly just going on and on about how awesome it was to be in the Wonderbolt Academy, but Braeburn didn’t mind. He didn’t have much to say and soon came to really admire this stallion.

They then went clothes shopping. Braeburn always just wore his vest and hat and it was refreshing to try something new on. Soarin laughed as he came out in new outfits and showed off. He ended up with a nice button down shirt with swirls on the back. Soarin got a hat like Braeburn and a vest to match. Braeburn appreciated his interest in his fashion sense.

It was getting late and Soarin led them back to that river side bank they were at before. It was a nice spot, away from everything.

“So Soarin… I heard you like stallions… or somethin'” said Braeburn nervously. He didn’t know why he asked it but it was eating him up.

“Yeah, so what?” Soarin chuckled. He knew this would come up. Spitfire had a big mouth.

“Well I mean, I just…” He looked confused. He didn’t know what to say. He was thinking about all the thoughts he had in the past, like not liking mares, an interest in his best friend and the admiration he had toward this stallion. He found him attractive and he knew this now.

“Can I tell you something?” Braeburn looked concerned.

        “Sure dude” Soarin looked worried.

“You can’t tell ANYONE okay?” He exclaimed.

        “Sure sure, go ahead”

“Ah… ah think ah might be a... coltcuddler…” He looked down and ashamed.

Soarin looked at him. He seen this many times already. He didn’t want him feeling alone and confused.

He leaned in and kissed Braeburn on the cheek.

        Braeburn half jumped and squeaked.

        Soarin flew off laughing.

Braeburn just gazed as he flew off, one hoof on the cheek he kissed.
