Ponyville Library
"Now, where was that book?" Twilight said as she was looking around the bookshelves, obviously on a hunt for a specific book. She was wearing her normal clothes which consisted of a purple skirt, a white blouse, and shoes with her cutie mark on all three.
"What are you looking for Twilight?" Spike said walking in from helping Rarity.
"It's a book on myths and legends. I can't seem to find it." Twilight began to float books around to room trying to find the elusive book that seemed to elude her grasp.
Before Spike could reply, Twilight had a strange surge that had her magic fling a very large book at Spike.
"Ow..."
"Spike! Are you ok?" asked Twilight, very worried.
"I'm fine. On the lighter side, I think you hit me with the book you were looking for." Spike said, trying to sound more of a optimist. Twilight picked up the book and turned to a chapter almost by instict. She started to read immediately.
The Tale of the Three Royals
It is said that when Faust created Equestria, she created two gods to craft the land by placing trees and moving oceans. The were known to have two fillies, one for the sun and one for the moon. We know them as Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. It is said that there was a colt, one for balance. He was there to keep the sun and moon from fighting and keep them as friends, for they may cause destruction of the land they lived in if they truly hated each other and fought all the time. The sun and moon would rule their respective areas. Balance was to rule Equestria as the main ruler. One day, he simply disappeared, never to be seen again. Some ponies believe that one day, he would return, and take his rightful place atop the throne.
"Why did you want this book? I thought even after Nightmare Moon you still didn't believe in old pony-tales."
Twilight was about to answer when she stalled. She couldn't remember why she wanted this book.
"I can't remember Spike, but I do know that I want to ask Princess Celestia and Luna about this. Spike, take a letter!" Spike immediately pulled out a piece of paper, ink, and a quill.
Dear Princess Celestia,
I was searching in my library for a book on myths when I found it and read a exert on "The Tale of the Three Royals" I can't remember why I was searching for it, but I just have to know. Sorry if I am very intrusive on the subject. Did you and Princess Luna have a brother?
Your Faithful Student,
Twilight Sparkle
Spike rolled up the letter and sent it with his fire. "Twilight, I'm going to hit the hay. I pretty tired from this day." With that statement, he went to his bed, fell, and started to snore. Twilight noticed that there was a few more hours in the day before night, so she decided to walk over to Rarity's house to talk about this. She didn't know why this lore interested her this much, it just did.
Carousel Boutique
The walk to Rarity's was quite nice. It was a cool afternoon. The sun seemed to be lower than usual, even for this time of day. There were some ponies finishing up day in Ponyville. A bell rung when Twilight entered the boutique.
"Twilight!" Said a voice
"Rarity, where are you?" Twilight said as she looked around.
"I'm in a back room for my fabric, I'll be there in a moment." A few seconds later, Rarity walked out. She was wearing a very lovely white dress that flowed like a river of silk.
"What do you need, Twilight?"
"I need to talk. Earlier, I was looking for a book on old pony-tales. I found it and when Spike asked me why I was looking for a book like that, I couldn't remember why. One story in it however, for some reason, sparked my interest."
"What was the story about?"
"It was about a supposed third child that controlled balance. It also said he kept balance between both the princesses, so it seems like he was a brother to them. One day, he simply disappeared, never to be seen again."
"I think I have had some customers who believe so much in that story. I honestly doubt that a prince will come out of no where and retake his place on the throne."
"Who knows? I also sent the princess a letter asking if she ever had a brother."
"Tell me when you get that darling, I'm a little curious myself now."
"Okay, thanks for the talk. Good night." Twilight walked back home and got in her bed. She looked out her window to notice the stars, and found one bigger and brighter than the rest. She fell asleep with one thought in her mind. "Was there really a third ruler?" Little did she know, the answer was closer than she thought. She dreamed while that bright star got bigger, and bigger, and bigger as it crashed into the Ever-free Forest. Despite what happened, there was almost no sound. There was one who saw it all.
" 'e has come. Balance is 'ere." said a voice in a thick scottish accent. "The prince 'as come to claim 'is place top the throne."
While the voice talked, another fell silent. A small colt watched from the shadows, just as interested. The scottish voice walked back from where he came, grinning like a madman. The young colt did the same, but both of them will soon have their worlds rocked.
By the morning, Spike had left and left Twilight a letter from the princesses. Twilight woke up, did her daily routine, and found the letter. As she read more and more, her eyes grew smaller and smaller. Dropping the note immediately, she ran to gather the others.
Dear my most faithful student,
Your letter to me was most interesting, as your strange reason why you would write to me on such a topic. You have truly grown and I think I should tell you the truth. Me and Luna did have a brother. He just was gone one day. What makes me scared is what I have seen and heard. Luna said a star, not under her control fell out of the sky into the forest. I also had a dream that something came to take the throne, and took it violently with murder and no mercy. Then you write to me this letter. Gather the others. Find that star. If there is something or somepony, restrain it, keep it bound, and if it can talk, don't trust a single word.
Princess Celestia
