The First Thought

"...And with that class is dismissed." The man said with a smile he gathered his papers together as the students left the classroom only one was left behind a woman with maroon hair named Cherilee. He smiled watching her work diligently. "Cherilee you know class has let out already you can leave." He said looking at her she didn't move except for writing. He sighed walking over to her he placed a hand on her shoulder she jumped looking at him.
"Mr. Night I'm sorry I will study harder for the next test." Cherilee said almost in a panic which made him chuckle.
"Cherilee you did fine on this test a hundred as always no need to freak out so much." He ran a hand through his dark blue hair and smiled to her. "You should hurry and get home there have been reports of a person attacking people please be safe on your way to your dorm." He said sternly. Cherilee looked down calmly and gathered her things before walking out. Martin sighed as he went over to his desk he placed his head into his hands. "What are you doing Martin she is a student." He said standing up and gathering his things he walked out towards his car to drive home.
Martin made it home without danger interrupting his calm drive except for that asshole on the highway. Who cuts across four lanes of traffic like a mad man without using a blinker. "I swear people are so stupid sometimes." He said as he walked towards his door he quickly unlocked it dropping his stuff near the door. "I need a drink." He said as he saw a bottle of whiskey he poured two fingers worth of the warming liquid into a glass then decided to make it a double. "Screw it I really need a drink today." Martin took his glass walked into his living room he turned on his tv and watched the news hearing that there was another attack at his school when he got a phone call. He looked at his phone annoyed until he saw the contact. "Dean Celestia. It's about the attacks I bet." He picked up his phone and answered it. "Yes Dean what can I do for you?" He said taking a drink.
"Are you watching the news?" She asked concerned.
"No Dean I am trying to build my F laser cannon to fail my students." Martin said taking another drink.
"So in other words you are getting drunk and watching the news as usual." She said flatly.
"You know it. But yes I am watching the news another attack I see." Martin said slightly annoyed. "Why haven't the police caught this fucker yet?" He asked angrily. He finished off his drink.
"Do not get lippy with me Martin I want you to keep a close eye on your night students and make sure they are safe." Celestia said calmly.
"I'm sorry Celestia A lot has happened this past few years." Martin set his glass down sighing. "I will keep a close eye on the students I promise." He rubbed his forehead trying to calm himself.
"Just be safe Martin and thank you enjoy your night." She said as she hung up Martin looked at his phone.
"I won't not since that day but maybe I can start over." He picked up his glass and poured himself another drink he needed to sleep but after this drink.

Rescue Like The Hero

Martin awoke with a horrible hangover he looked around noticing his empty home. He sighed looking at a photo of him and a girl. It was a wedding photo. he walked over to it and slammed it down breaking to glass. He went up stairs to get ready for work. "Why did you have to die Serena." Martin said as he felt a tear stream down his cheek. Martin took a quick shower then got dressed in a fancy suit he couldn't decide on a tie until he saw a maroon tie he smiled deciding on that tie. "Cherilee you are such a beautiful girl but can I give up Serena for a second chance?" Martin asked himself as he finished tying the tie.
The drive to work was interesting he gave change to a homeless man he had a dog with him in the cold weather. Martin always had a soft spot for animals. As he got out of his car he noticed Cherilee walking into the building he smiled knowing she was safe and not in danger. "I bet she didn't have to see that attack last night but I should hurry class is going to start soon." He said as he ran into the building ready to teach the willing students.
Martin was teaching his students about being on the same level as their students. "Remember students are more willing to listen if you are willing to relate with them." He smiled "Like how I speak to all of you I am not much older than all of you only twenty-five some of you are around my age maybe older." he motioned to his students and stopped when he saw Cherilee. writing as usual no doubt every word he said. "But a student and teacher can never be together understand this and take it to heart no matter your feelings do not play favorites." He internally winced at his own words but knew it had to be said. "All students should be taught and graded equally no student is better than another." Martin said as the bell rang. "Ok class dismissed go have fun on your Friday night and note there is a test Monday." He said as they all groaned. "Now don't give me that just go have fun knowing you don't have to see me for two days." Martin said with a joking attitude. All the students except one left the room he sighed looking at Cherilee.
"Mr. Night I have a question." Cherilee said walking towards him.
"Of course Cherilee tell me what's on your mind." He answered with a smile. She looked beautiful today.
"I was wondering if you were speaking from experience?" Cherilee asked. Martin felt his blood run cold.
"Yes... Yes I am Cherilee I dated a student before but it didn't work." Martin sighed. "Please be safe on your way to your dorm Cherilee." Martin began to organize his papers making sure to grade the homework he was given back that day. Cherilee sighed and walked outside towards her dorm. The next thing Martin heard was a scream he knew who had screamed it sounded familiar he ran outside to see Cherilee being attacked.
Martin was running on instinct he tackled the man without a second thought he felt a ice cold object pierce his stomach then a warm liquid stream down his side but he didn't flinch he proceeded to beat the man down until he stopped resisting. Martin looked down to see the knife still in his stomach he felt week looking at the knife. "S-shit." Was all he could utter as he fell over gasping for air he was panicking at the wound.
"MR. NIGHT ARE YOU OK MR. NIGHT!" Cherilee yelled she pulled out her cell phone and called the police and an ambulance. It took 5 minutes for the police to arrive and arrest the man and to take Martin to the hospital.

"... Will he be alright?" Martin heard a voice speak he stirred mentally but couldn't move.
"Mrs. Lee he will be fine he is stable right now but he might not wake up for a few days." Another voice said Martin slowly opened his eyes.
"Can you call me when he wakes up?" Martin saw Cherilee and smiled he looked at the doctor.
"Where am I?" Asked Martin calmly he looked over to Cherilee who jumped at his voice. The doctor was surprised to see Martin awake so soon.
Mr. Night you're in a hospital right now do you remember what happened or who you are?" The doctor asked Martin looked at him annoyed.
"I was stabbed saving my student Cherilee and my name is Martin Night I am a teacher at Solaris university in Boltimare Mareiland I am 6' 2" and I like long walks on the beach and a nice cold whiskey anything else?" Martin asked mocking the doctor. The doctor was now annoyed.
"He is gonna be fine." He said as he walked out of the room. Martin looked up to Cherilee who had tears in her eyes.
"Are you alright Cherilee you look like your about to cry teachers don't cry in front of their students." He said with a gentle smile she ran up and hugged him tightly Martin blushed at the gesture he was hesitant to hug her back be he ended up moving her away knowing she wouldn't understand what she was doing. "I'm sorry Cherilee I can't it wouldn't be right." He said sadness in his voice he had a chance to embrace her but he pushed her away he felt like such an idiot she stood up and walked away with tears in her eyes. "Good job Martin you damn fool you like her yet won't tell her how you feel out of fear you damn coward." Martin said but he didn't realize that Cherilee was about to walk in to get her purse she had left behind. She had heard every word he had just said.
The hospital wanted to keep Martin for a few days but he left for home early. Hospitals brought bad memories back to the surface. When he got home he changed his bandages and his clothes they were dirty and had blood on them he sighed knowing that his suit was now ruined. He settled for blue jeans and a plain black T-Shirt he sighed. "Stupid coward." He scolded himself for his action last night at the hospital. There was a knock at Martin's door he groaned at the disturbance. He walked to the door and looked through the peep hole to see Cherilee standing outside his door. He opened the door confused. "Can I help you Cherilee?" He asked her concerned.
"May I come in it is cold out?" She asked shivering Martin let her in she looked sick from walking in the cold.
"Dammit did you walk here through that cold you should have taken the bus or drove." Martin said getting her a blanket he covered her up and set her down on the couch to warm up. "Why would you do that?" Martin asked concerned.
"I needed to talk to you." She said sternly like she was fine. Martin placed a hand on her cheek and pulled his hand back he went to get her another blanket and make her some hot cocoa while she tried to warm up he came back and covered her up he handed her the warm cocoa and smiled to her. "Thank you." She said taking a light sip.
Martin watched her with concern she was deathly cold and she needed to warm up. "You warm up and rest we will talk when you feel better." He said with a sigh. "You could have called." Martin said annoyed that she would put her self in danger by walking to talk to him in this extreme cold.
"Did you mean by what you said last night?" She asked him as he was walking out. "Did you mean it when you said you had feelings for me?" she blurted out loudly. She blushed at the words.
Martin froze mid stride. "Get some rest then we will talk Cherilee." He sighed. "I will answer all of your questions when you wake up." He looked towards her to see her sleeping he looked at her and smiled.
