Every five years, select unicorns from across Equestria are chosen to participate in a magic battle tournament in Canterlot. Some unicorns train to be selected for this tournament their entire lives. Others are invited seemingly out of nowhere. This year, newly crowned Princess Twilight Sparkle is one of the latter, and as the entire world takes notice of her and some other interesting contestants, including fellow Ponyvillians, Twilight must prove that she is not only worthy of her title as Princess, but that she can also defend it if need be.
