When Rarity returns to Manehattan for the Art of the Dress annual competition, only the biggest in all of Equestria, she meets a snotty rich mare named Diamond Silk, who tells her the story of Old MackMane, who blew it in a fashion contest once in Manehattan and was mocked for the rest of her days. This leads Rarity into the idea that you must be perfect, or be laughed at. She takes all the time she has to make the most shiniest, glitteriest, most glorious dress she ever tailored, but her chance at winning takes a turn for the worse. Diamond Silk used money and her award winning weaving to make a dress, and Rarity takes last. So, rarity ends her career and turns into a hobo, thinking it's over. Can Twilight and her friends find Rarity before it's too late?
