Everything was going just peachy, Trixie was finally on the right path thanks to Twilight, that whole Alicorn Amulet incident was completely behind her, and to top it all off she had a brand new cart thanks to that forgotten insurance policy she had placed on her previous one. Yup, Trixie’s life was just grand.
That was, until she ran into the wheel duck.
Now, it was well-known at the time that Trixie absolutely despised wheels of any kind. It was a hatred that began all the way back in magic kindergarten and only grew as time went on. It was the type of hatred that could not be described in words, phrases, or sounds. In fact, the only reason Trixie’s cart wasn’t wheelless was because she had plastered her face all over the wheels with stickers she had made a long time ago.
Trixie also didn’t care for ducks, she found them far too annoying, what with their constant quacking and their odd talent of getting into trouble by just opening their big mouth. Actually, someone had pointed out how ironic that was when Trixie mentioned it once, but she was far too engrossed in her own storytelling to care. The point is, Trixie didn’t like wheels nor ducks nor wheel ducks in the slightest.
So when she saw the unfortunate creature that would forever be known as the wheel duck crossing the very road that she was traveling on, well it was almost too much for poor Trixie. The duck was nothing out of the ordinary and neither was the wheel, but together they created something that Trixie simply could not ignore. What did Trixie do to let the wheel duck know that it was not welcome? Simple, she stared it down.
The duck paid her no heed, it simply carried on as normal, dragging the wheel stuck on its head like a thick piece of jewelry.
Trixie narrowed her eyes, no one, not even wheel toting ducks, ignored her when she stared them down. She slipped out of the harness she was using to carry her cart and ran a few feet ahead, then skidding to a halt. “Hey you!” she called out with a sneer at the duck.
The duck stopped in mid-quack at the sound of Trixies shouting. Slowly but surely the duck turned around, the wheel making a soft scraping noise as it was being turned. Finally the duck was facing Trixie and it looked just as oblivious as before. Trixie had no time for this foolishness, she had a show to get to in Manehatten and she would not pass up this opportunity to become a well-established magician again. “So, what do you think you’re doing here with a wheel hanging around your neck?”
Being a duck, he couldn’t fully understand what Trixie was saying, but that didn’t stop him from answering. “Quack.”
“Own up wise guy, what possible reason could you have a wheel on your neck?” Trixie replied.
“Quack,” the duck announced.
“I’m warning you duck, or should I say wheel duck” she spat out like venom.
“Quack?” the duck questioned.
“Don’t you play innocently with me duck, I know you’re conspiring against me with that wheel. I can feel it.” Trixie couldn’t really feel anything but she figured that she could probably guilt trip the duck into a confession.
“Quack?” the duck asked, even more confused then before.
Trixie growled with annoyance, sweat starting to dot her face as she continued to push the duck. “Ok wheel duck, you’re a stronger opponent than I anticipated. So I have a deal for you, surrender now and I’ll spare your life.”
The duck could care less about the offer as it was much too preoccupied with gnawing on the nearest spoke of the wheel to even bother replying.
“All right then wheel duck, I’m giving you until the count of three to come up with a smart response or else goodbye to you.” Trixie snorted, arching her body up to look more menacing and (surprisingly) managed to narrow her eyes even more.
The duck continued to gnaw the spoke, by now he had made no significant progress but decided that he quite liked the flavor of wood.
“Three...two...one! Time’s up for you wheel duck!” Trixie screeched as she abandoned all common sense and lept at the duck, one leg stretched out to give the abomination of swift kick of justice.
When the duck heard the shrill cry he finally stopped gnawing on the piece of wood to see a blue unicorn bearing down upon him with full force. This sent him into an understandable state of panic,
