A New Pony?

Heavy dark clouds hung over Ponyville, rain threatening to fall down in sheets. The weather ponies had decided that rain was in order, so now it was almost a stifling humidity, the kind that frizzes up manes and tails. The weather ponies were now currently lazing around like snails, unable to find something do, seeing as it was usually their pastime, besides flying around in the park and what. That option was unavailable though, the incoming rain prevented much fun from going on.

A unicorn mare trotted down the main strip of Ponyville, her black flank almost blending in seamlessly with the sky. A purple glow surrounded her horn and an umbrella that levitated over her head. The pony's name was Naru, and she was feeling a bit scandalous today, so her dark brown curls hung on the left side of her shoulders instead of the right.

Naru's gaze was pulled up to the sky, the grey clouds held the same intensity as her eyes, which were sewn brilliantly on her face.

What an absolutely dreary day. Today out of all days the weather ponies decided to allow it to rain and-

Her thoughts were interrupted by a laugh. It was the kind of laugh that would make any mare swoon, it was so rich and creamy, yet fulfilling, like chocolate. Her gaze traveled towards the source which she instantly knew, it was her coltfriend, but what could he possibly be laughing about on such an awful day?

A caramel colored stallion stood near the water fountain, laughing at something, with another pony. Naru knew that was her coltfriend, Curry, but couldn't put a hoof on who the other pony was, the water was blocking her view. Curry was the best pony she knew, and the most handsome, his brown mane was a shade darker than hers, his blue eyes reminded her of an ocean, it made her want to swim.

When Naru took a few steps closer, that's when the rain started coming down. It was only a light drizzle, but enough to just ruin her day almost completely. At least Curry would be able to cheer her up, he always knew how to make Naru laugh. With another step she saw a sight that made her stomach rumble in fury.

Standing near Curry was a unicorn mare with a peach colored flank, a little shorter than Curry himself. She had a long blonde mane that reached her torso, a curly ombre tail,  and brilliant blue eyes the color of the sky on a clear day. Naru felt instantly jealous and strutted over to Curry, her dark blue umbrella covered both of them just as the rain started into a downpour, almost instantly soaking the intruder. Naru had to use every fiber in her body to not smile.

"Hello dear." She put extra emphasis on the word 'dear' and planted a kiss on his cheek to mark her territory, telling this other mare to just back off already.

"Hey Naru," Curry replied, his attention escaping over to Naru, where he nodded with a smile. Only to ruin the moment entirely.

"This is Stava, she's new in Ponyville, why don't you get under the umbrella?" The first part was directed towards Naru, but the question was to Stava.

"Oh no thank you Curry, it's fine."

So they're on a first name basis? That is not good. I need to show her who the boss is.

"Yes Curry dear, there is only room for two under our umbrella..."

Stava's horn sparkled purple and a magic equally purple barrier floated above her, shielding the mare from the rain. She smiled but her gaze flickered over to Naru every once and awhile, which she instantly picked up. Curry on the other hand was oblivious. Just smiling and droning on and on about some kind of hoofball team, in which both mares tried to act interested.

Suddenly a beeping sounded and Stava jumped a bit, startled, before looking at the watch on her hoof.

"I have to get going, but bye Curry, and....."

"Naru, my name is Naru."

"Well bye Curry and.. Naru."

Curry waved to her as she turned around and raced down the road, heading off into some random direction, in which Naru didn't care about. Naru waved back, but only to please Curry who nudged her gently in the shoulder, so she plastered on a smile and waved to Stava as she left.

That's right. You lose. I win. Curry is mine.

"Shall we go home then?" Naru put her hoof down and looked over at Curry with a smile, only for it to falter as he wasn't even paying attention and looking towards the general direction that Stava had run off to.

"Curry!"

The stallion snapped out of it and looked over at Naru with a smile, before cocking his head to the side.

"What was that?"

"Let's go home." This time it was more of a demand, rather than a question.

With a nod, she turned around, and he followed in suit, as they walked home, the rain playing a melodic tune on the umbrella.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When the two arrived home, they were both exhausted, something about the rain just seemed to make a pony tired. First thing in the door, Naru had flopped onto the couch, digging her face into the rough fabric, while Curry had gone to the kitchen.
He bustled around, putting the kettle on and preparing some tea, although Stava seemed to stay on his mind. He felt guilty, and his eyes strayed over to where Naru was strewn over the couch, one hoof dangling off the edge. Naru was a beautiful mare, with beautiful qualities, but Stava just was embedded into his mind, and she stayed there. To occupy himself, Curry started doing random things, whether it be wash the counter tops, do a few dishes, anything to stray his mind.
When the kettle screamed, Naru bounced off the couch, being woken to attention. She levitated the kettle off the stovetop and onto a oven mitt to silence it. The mare was craving tea now, Curry made the best tea that she knew of, seeing as his cutiemark was a cup of tea things made sense.
Naru's cutiemark had yet to come, she was still trying to find her talent, her savvy. Usually she hid the embarrassment under a nice cloak, refusing to take it off most days. She like that Curry didn't mind that she had a blank flank, he found it "cute."
She watched as he hurried about the house, cleaning random things, he only did that when he was troubled, and that's when she narrowed her eyes. Naru poured herself a cup of tea and allowed it to cool off, while it did so, she sighed. Naru started to walk towards him, only for Curry to turn around at that moment, knocking them both to the floor.
Curry stifled a laugh, and apologized, Naru was still in shock. He crawled over to her and lied on top of her with a grin.
"Oh hello there."
"Hey."
Naru then pushed him off, a surprise to him, and he lied there, eyes wide.
"I'm tired. I'm heading to bed."
Curry nodded, wondering what was troubling, although it was the very same thing that brought him guilt.
Naru trotted down the hallway, edging into the restroom, brushing her teeth, washing her face, and preparing for sleep. She yawned, and walked to the bedroom, crawling under the black comforter, allowing herself to confide in sleep.
Meanwhile, Curry cleaned up the kitchen, noticing how Naru forgot about her tea, which she usually never did. His thoughts seemed to be consuming him, and more than once he made a mistake. Like putting a spoon in the garbage, or the milk in a cupboard.
Finally he gave up and just decided it was time for sleep. With one more sigh he trotted into the bedroom, after getting ready of course and looked over at Naru. He planted a kiss on her sleep, and she bustled a bit, snuggling down deeper into the covers and pillows. Curry slipped under the comforter and turned the lamp off, eventually falling asleep.
