Chapter 1: A Nightmarish Dream
Vinyl heaved a sad sigh as she slowly trotted up the mountain. 'I wonder how Melody is doing, or even more important, if she's had any more dreams,' Vinyl thinks to herself. Her sister Melody Scratch had a thing with her mind that some called a gift, others a curse. She had horrible dreams of awful scenes of ponies dying. And these aren't just random. When she sees a pony in her dreams die, that pony will die in the next weeks, days at the least. So she sees ponies' deaths before they happen! Vinyl sighed again. Melody had shunted herself off into a cave after the first few days, for she was among those who saw it as a curse. She knew Melody tried to stay awake, so that she would not have these dreams. But no matter how hard she tried, she would always pass out when a dream is to happen. Vinyl peered into the cave, and saw her sister at the back, blankly staring at the stone wall. "Melody..." "Vinyl. Come in." Melody said quickly. Vinyl trotted up to her sister and sat beside her. Melody turned her head away. Vinyl sighed. "Melody... have there been any... more?" Vinyl stared at the back of her sister's head, concerned. "How have you been, Vinyl?" Vinyl sighed inwardly. She was trying to change the subject, and she was making it very obvious. "How's that friend of yours... Octavia, was it?" "Melody, stop trying to change the subject." Melody sighed. Vinyl put a hoof around her sister, and lifted her head up with magic, looking into Melody's emerald eyes. "Melody. Who was it?" Melody turned away, and whispered something very quietly towards the ground. Vinyl saw a single teardrop run down Melody's cheek. Vinyl started to get worried. Even with the dreams, or should she say nightmares, Melody rarely cried. "Who, Melody, Who?" Vinyl was getting anxious. "It's...it's...oh.....no...I...I..." "MELODY! WHAT IS IT?!" Melody suddenly looked up, straight into her sister's startled eyes with enough intensity to knock a full grown stallion off his hooves. "IT'S THAT FRIEND OF YOURS! OCTAVIA! I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry...I..I..." Melody started to sob, her face going into her hooves. Vinyl was shocked. She just stared into the darkness, a tear forming in the corner of her eye. She suddenly hugged her sister tightly, her tears now coming in waves. You could hear the sadness dripping from her voice. "Are... are you s-sure? Y-you've made m-m-mistakes before, r-right?" Vinyl sniffed. "No, Vinyl. You and I both know that these nightmarish dreams never lie."
Octavia walked up to the table in the food court. She sat on the stool by the table, and looked at the menu. 'Green tea seems nice,' she thought to herself. A waitress trotted up to her. "Hi, i'm Latte, i'll be your waitress for today. What can I get you to drink?" Octavia looked up. This Latte filly was a unicorn with a creamy brown coat and a dark brown mane. Her cutie mark was a cup with curly steam over it. "I'd like green tea, please." Octavia replied. "Alright, it'll be here shortly." "Thank you." Octavia sighed and grabbed a newspaper from her saddlebag. She began to read, when she looked up. A white unicorn with a messy blue mane was sitting across the court, eating a daisy daffodil sandwich. The unicorn used her magic to lift her glasses off her face, and Octavia realized she had pretty red eyes. The unicorn turned towards her, and Octavia gasped. She felt a spark in her heart, and she realized the unicorn's eyes shined. They started trotting towards each other, almost like they were magically forced. Octavia knew then they'd be great friends.
